My guy friends look at me funny when I tell them that... Raven Darkblade wrote: But Empathy? How do you make emotions visible? Good question. Talia described it as seeing emotions like color. In Arrows of the Queen when she was flying through the countryside (just before she found Ylsa) she described the negative emotions she encountered as being tinged with red. In Arrow's Flight when hse was helping the Healer with the snow fever plague, Talia described the negative energy there as red also, and the healing energy as golden. Just a thought -- If any of you have read Katherine Kerrs Daggerspell (or any corresponding books) the way she describes energy is on a different plane of existance. You get to that plane a lot like walking the moonpaths...Its mostly blue, and each energy has a color associated with it (ie. animals, plants, humans). Well (hypothetical) all Heralds have othersight, if their othersight was like looking through blue glasses, and the emotions showed up as visible colored auras, then that would be one way to show it. Make sense? Quoth Diane: How bout Dougray Scott [to play Vanel], who was the Prince in Ever After? I saw a pic of him somewhere and I was like "That's Vanyel!" Maybe. THAT'S the guy I was tryong to remember. I can't really think of anyone better. (Ever After was such a wonderful movie, if you haven't seen it yet, NOW NOW NOW). But can he sing? I just had a major revalation! What about Tim Curry to play Orthallen? He's the absolute *best* villian actor I've ever seen, and if not Orthallen, maybe one of the Ma'ar incarnations.... Do you know what I mean? I also was disappointed about the storms books, and I think that it is just that they are too much plot, not enough character development. Heck, I know what I'm trying to say.....Well, basically, what it comes down to for me is that the reason I really liked The Last Herald-Mage books and the Arrows books so much was that the main character always seemed very real, and you knew what they were thinking. It's sort of like, you cared about the character, and the plot was just sort of something that was happening to the character. With the storms books, the plot takes more of a center stage. Also, some of the tying-up-loose-ends stuff seemed excessive, at least to me. I liked the storms books, and if they weren't Mercedes Lackey books I would have thought that they were very good, but I just expect more from the Valdemar books I guess. It's kind of like how I felt about Star Trek: Insurrection. It was a good movie, but not a good Star Trek movie. Well, I think that that's about as coherent as my thoughts are going to get right now. -L.J.
