Off topic, but anyone seen Prince of Egypt? *ducks yet again* Duck not! Prince of Egypt was a really good movie. I went to go see it with my Mom who teaches an adult Bible class at our church. We both liked it, even though she went on about the historical differences. I thought it was well animated. Being a bardic traniee, I noticed there are already three soundtracks to the movie. In my opinion, you can usually judge the quality of the movie by the soundtrack. Heather Wrote:Um. I remember ages ago people saying the Storms books weren't as good as LHM or the Arrows trilogies. Back then I hadn't read the Storms, but now I am dragging myself through Storm Breaking... and am sad to say I found them a bit boring. Maybe because there is a lot more technical stuff, like reasons why things happen. Do you know what I mean? SPOILER (hi Heather!!) Jeez, when I read SBreaking I thought it would never end! Andesha and FireSong (??right name - it's been a while) have all these internal problems that Misty goes into, and I wish there had been more action in it. Keep going though. It picks up towards the end, and the next two get better. (In My Own Opinion) This was my least favorite trilogy, I wish Misty would go into Iftel more, or into the Empire. I think both of those places would make great settings. I really wish she had gone more into how Iftel and Karse ended up with the same god, and about the gryphons in Iftel. END SPOILER Someone wrote:><> My interpretation of a final strike. Both mages have shields around themselves, standing in domes of irradecent light. They're shooting mage bolts at eachother which look a lot like blue (or red) lightening. A final strike whould be a mage gathering up as much energy as he could (this would be reflected in the dome shield) and then imploding, blasting everyhting within a very large radius of himself. A blinding white light on implosion is good. It's very good to see all of you again! I'm re-reading the Elvenbane. If any of you haven't read that, I highly suggest it. Yfandes, in LKH, mindspeaks to Stefen, but makes it such that it is more of a secret than anything else. As far as we know, Stefen never betrayed that fact to anyone else. The Companions, in total, hold many more secrets about their nature and abilities from their Chosen, and as the telling of Valdemar grows, so too does the reader's knowledge of those powers, which is different than the knowledge of each individual Herald living in the books :). There are things that the Heralds don't believe their Companions capable of doing, but only in the regards that the Companions have omitted from telling them otherwise, imo. >Hope I'm not flamed for this. Too true :). There are very few times that come to mind about recent movies and other productions that have lived up to their literary counterparts. The largest problem that happens is that for regular cinematic movies, they are only 3 hours at most (such as Titanic), and so have to squeeze in an entire book into that. Some things, unfortunately, are left out. The second problem that happens is that we see with our physical eyes the interpretation that the screenplay writer had in regards to what the book meant to them, what parts were important, etc. It isn't our own interpretation, where we can create our own characters, here their thoughts, voices, see all of the reasons as to why this and that occur... If I recall, the one production that I thought was fairly good if done by itself was the television mini-series of Stephen King's _The Stand_. It was very nicely done.. but keep in mind that it was about 7 (?) hours long. Even then not everything was kept in it when you went to the book and read what it originally was. Best book-to-movie conversions are those where the books didn't have that much in them to begin with, and the movie was able to write more... but that doesn't happen that often ;). --- Now, with the beginning of the new month (and new year for some ;), I want to point out the Birthday list that we have going on for those MLML readers :). The Tolkien series and Heavy Metal are 2 exaples of great animation. Most Japanese animation looks like their eyse have taken over their entire faces. I, for one, would hate to see Misty's work done in anime. About the characters, I agree that Lucy Lawless would be a great Kerowyn, but as for Tarma, my vote still goes with Anjelica Huston, she is dark haired, with a sharp nose, long and willowy, she looks a lot like the pictures of Tarma on the book covers. David Bowie would be great as Falconsbane, I still picture Jack Nicholson as Orthallan and the voice of Warrl. I think that Liam Neeson would be a great Darkwind, or Roald. (esp Roald, as he is long and willowy like Tarma). And for Daren, Harrison Ford. They could get one of his older sons to play a younger Daren as they all look just like their dad. That's all for me for one day. I am going to be on a week-long furlough from work. (I hate it!!!!) I am not seeing it as a vacation, but a banishment. I had much the same reaction to Laurana in Margaret Weis and Tracy Hickman's Dragons of Autumn Twilight. Twerp. <> The Tolkein series was, I believe, animated by Japanese artists, as was The Last Unicorn, and I could concievably see Misty's books animated in a similar style. I don't care for how most of the faces were done, but Eowyn, Amalthea, and Lir remind me vaguely of some of Misty's characters. <> I can see David Bowie a la Labyrinth as Falconsbane, yep. Nicholson doesn't have the dignity for Orthallen; I'm not sure if he'd be good for Warrl's voice. Liam Neeson doesn't strike me as right for Darkwind or Roald--Roald was blond, anyhow; I like Kenneth Branagh for him--but he'd make a great Amberdrake. Ok, being the idiot that I SOMETIMES am, I didn't say that right. What I ment was, if, for instance, we were to do WoF, we wouldn't need ALL the Companions to speak since only Elspeth and Skif are the leads. Therefore we's only have Gwyna and Cymry's voice audable (sp) to the audience. If someone else's Companion says something it would prolly make more sense to have that char say, "My Companion says whatever!" to avoid confusion, as ppl might think that Companions can therefore speak to whomever they choose. She sure doesn't lok like a blonde to me. In fact, IMHO if there is a picture of her with blonde hair *that's* dye. Her official page says she has jet black hair, after all. Sorry, no ob Misty. This thread is just driving me to distraction, that all. -- Paige GO LEAFS!!! proud to be Outlandish (to e-mail double the p and take out the "reston") ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 2 Jan 1999 21:06:11 -0500 (EST) From: Gisela Vazquez To: mercedes-lackey-+AT+-herald.co.uk Subject: Re: Catch-up braid-thing. Message-ID: Heyla everyone, just had some movie ideas as I was taking a shower. I told myself that I wouldn't get involved and just as soon as I'm done I plan to disinvolve myself, it that a real word? Here are my ideas. First off, I would like to see patric Stuart as albrich, you know older good looking guy, sexy, we'll just have to give him hair. I like Lucy lawliss for Kerro she's got that ritch vibrant voice and oh yea let's not forget looks reeeeeeeall! hot in leather. Renay oconner can be Talia before everyone gets all flipped on me just think about it. As Gabby, Renay's is mostly a gentle character, but with the ability to be tough when she's gotta be, just like Talia and she sounds like I imagine Talia would. Now on to my favorate character, Vanyel, just gotta love him. Let me see, I don't know who could be him but well I always imagine him with a Berry white kind of voice. Now I'm done. zhai'helleva, list cibs Gisela Vazquez d052951c-+AT+-dc.seflin.org ------------------------------ End of MERCEDES-LACKEY Digest 1832 **********************************
