I remember that, even got the CD.  I think back and yes, he would be perfect for that role.  The hair the eyes.  I have the CD cover here in front of me and they look very similar.

UK people about 10 years ago the guy with the dark hair and quite 
pointy face, drop dead gorgeous, (picture clearer?)  played Robin of 
Locksley in the first series of the Robin Hood thing that had the 
Clannad theme tune (think very Celtic / gealic sound).  I'm fairly 
sure he died in a motorcycle crash and I know that the replacement 
Robin was Jason Connery (the blond haired son of Sean Connery).  As I 
remeber the guy he even looked a little like the cover pictures from 
LHM.

His name is Michael Praed (sp)  he was also in a really bad scifi horror
movie called Nightflyer (not the Stephen King one) and in a thriller
called To Die For (not the one with Nicole Kidman) and after that he
disappeared.  I really liked him as Robin Hood but I can't really see
him as Van...he's too...earthy is my best discription.  I think he would
make a good Amberdrake.

My last message was eaten either by my computer or by Vanyel, so Happy
Holidays to all!

In defense of Firesong (where's the OOUH when you need them <bg>), in
Winds don't forget, he had been a very pampered & sheltered
Healer-Adept.  Because of his rare (?) talent, he was not exposed to
the rawness of life that the scouts, or even the Healers were exposed
to. Also, the Vale in Winds was not a typical Vale, what with all the
Ma'ar crap going on.  He literally had no clue about the life of
people outside the Vale and the hardships that they could be exposed to.

Also, in the Storms book where he freaks out, someone (I can't think
of who & I'm too lazy to check) does say that during the first Mage
Storms, some mages were affected the way that he had been.  So that
wasn't really his fault.

Well, hopefully I've done a half-decent job here, just wanted to put
my $.02 in.

Mostly to nuture the abilities that he had<G>.

If I recall correctly it was/is the same kestra'chern Silverfox that had
mentioned the Mage-War and the effects on some of the mages that in
later years would be Healing-Adapts. - had to get the name out of
Owlsight and the correct spelling of kestra'chern<VBG>.

          Heyla everyone. I'm freezing my little ass off. What to do? I

          really glad fire Song has defenders out there because people
          have made good points he's still the most elfcentered character.
          Maybe it's because he lacks a life bond, or because he's too
          young. His hair was white by the time he was ten (winds of
          change) As for life bonds An'desha wass instantly attracted to
          him, eventhough he was on the moon paths with out a body and oh
          yes couldn't seem to tare his eyes away from the beautiful
          vission that is Fire Song. It isn't supposed to be 40 in Miami,

yeah, but he had hertasi to pamper him. You're right about Firesong being vain
and selfish, but is he not merely representing the current age? No one is
perfect. heck, if he was a bit like van in his self-sacrificing ways, Firesong
would have been Chosen *ergh!* can you imagine him as a Herald-trainee? no no no
no no....

Silverfox said that. And yeah, it wasn't _really_ his fault. Firesong is
firesong. I _like_ his selfishness, his pouting, his flaunting, his vanity. He
is more _human_ than van in that way. He has his faults, and i like his
character for that!

and i don't think An'desha flipped, i think he just turned hard. (oh get your

with the trouble these kind of bonds make.

   It's been a while since I've read Sacred Ground, but this part I do remember *grin*. I chuckled too :).

   Have to remember, though, that during the Storm books, as Lady Starlight mentioned, he was being affected by the Storms adversely. This was mentioned more towards the end of the series, but was implied that it had been happening all along, and was just getting worse and worse. Someone in the books mentions that the closer that you are to the way magic moves, then the more that you are being affected by the Storms. 

   From the fact that Elspeth and Darkwind, both at Adept level, aren't that affected by them, you must have to be more powerful than they, which Firesong is. He kept his center in the (forget the name used) abyss of magic, where all magic was 'recycled'. With all of this raw and weird energy cycling throughout the world, he probably was getting jolted fairly well, even if to him it wasn't noticeable.

   On the offshoot, if the Storms are the return of magic that went throughout the world so many centuries ago, do you suppose that more powerful magics can be used once again?

   I seem to recall someone in one of the books mentioning at some point something to the regards of that they accepted that he was so vain. He was so good at what he did that he in some affect earned it. This, of course, is personal opinion ;).

   I sort of thought that the reason as to why they first got together was of a mutual attraction. Now, what fueled that attraction in the first place might be different for both of them. At the end of it, they both sort of knew (if Firesong were perfectly sane at the time) that the relationship had served its purpose.

   Because of the effects of the Storms, Firesong was obsessed with lots of things that he normally wouldn't be, or things that might have been small in his reasoning, but because the Storms thwacked him off center, became much larger (note the scene where his normal annoyance of his bondbird goes to outright attack).

   Wasn't it some of what Elspeth had said in the Storms... that she had no idea what Tremaine was going through, what with the earth being replaced in splotches, and that she really didn't want to know. I think that Firesong, due to his centering place and that he was tied to the magic of the world rather than the earth of the world, that it did some of the same.

That actors name is Michael Praed.  The series was shown in the US on
Showtime a few years ago.  He went on to star in Dynasty for a short
time, and as far as I know, he is still very much alive.

been a Misty fan for several years, voraciously reading everything new
(since I work in a bookstore, I have a distinct advantage).  I also
like Marion Zimmer Bradley's Darkover series, and Anne McCaffrey's
Pern series.  Hope this info is interesting to someone......

<grin grin> Also, while we're talking about it, who would like to write a
'history' of Firesong for the SoF Homepage?? I was thinking of stretching
the history all the way back to include the various reincarnations(were they
really reincarnations?) of Ma'ar, as well as Vanyel (he is Firesong's
ancestor... qualifies as Firesong-related, right?)

Movie?  TV series definitely not a film, not even a TV

Could be, but I think he's too chubby to portray a Herald.  They are 
supposed to be in fighting trim and all. (he doesn't look it in the 
videos, but if you ever see a live performance, or the MTV taping of one 
you'd know what I mean)

Matthew McConnaghy (sp?) might do.  He's not quite young enough, but 
that kind of thing has never stopped movie makers before.  Case in 
point: casting Antionio Banderas as Armand in Interview with the 
Vampire.  It worked, but Armand as supposed to me child-like.  ::shrug::  
He's got the cute curly blond hair, and he was good in everything I've 
seen him in.  Of course, all I can think of off hand is A Time to Kill.

Anyway, I have work to do.  Curse school, in all its forms!

       Heyla all! feel free to skip the first part of this. I'm just
     going to be ranting and raving. Guess what!? I am currently
     going to be reading the Mists of Avilon by Marian Zimmer Bradly.
     I'm taking a lit course in Midevil lit. When I signed up for it,
     I thought it would be fun, now I'm not so sure. We have to read
     Mists which is a humongous book pluss a book that we need to do
     a critique on pluss different other books at any given time. My
     counceling class already has a paper due on Thursday, thankfully
     it's easy, about our phillosofy on counceling. Then I have the
     human Sexuality class and computers with the lab. I'm glad that
     all my books have been available from RFB. My classes are
     scattered all over the campice, some places i've never heard of,
     like where's building 4 exactly in relation to the other
     buildings? I've had one class there. By the time I learn my way
     to the places the term will be over. One more thing, they
     haven't made the computers talk yet. I'm really not happy about
     that. I have written in my diary but it didn't help much. Maybe
     because there weren't people there in the diary reading it, or
     whatever. ranting done.
     Now to more important  things. I'm really trying my hardest
     to stay out of the movie debate because honestly I wouldn't like
     seeing Valdemar on the big screan. Someone suggested a tv
     series, and that might work if it isn't changed too much
     to attract other audiences. I know that there should deffenately
     not be spin offs cause those are strange and always get ruined
     no matter how good they start out being. Now on to Fire Song.

     Gotta love being in Canada! Especially during the winter. We got  
another foot of snow! (fun stuff, especially shovelliing off your

"Oh well, no prob there. I was getting worried about those Diploma Exams 
I have to write!" The school magically pops up again. "Firesong!" She 
says in exasperation at the arrogant Tayledras who grins and disappears 
in a puff of smoke. "Goodtree's Rest, I hate him!">
     Anyways, I'd better get down to business. Okay, Misty explained to 
us all that Companions are reincarnated heralds. It's obvious that 
Sayvil (Kero's horse (I think! Haven't read BTS in a while)) is Savil 
(any others I have missed?) But what about Grove Born Companions like 
Gwena? Also, here's the big question. Who were the three Companions that 
started the whole Herald Collegium? Reincarnated Heralds from the 
future? (Possible theory from my bestfriend.) I, on the other paw 
(whoops!) I mean hand, have no opinion whatsoever and I wish Misty would 
explain the big mystery. Any possible suggestions? (We do need a new 
topic of discussion other than the dreamcast thing, and while we're at 
it, I suggest Anthony Hopkins as Alberiech! I know someone else did, but 
who?) 
     Here's another one of my major rants. How come, whenever you have a 
really good female character (like Alanna of Trebond (love Tamora 
Pierce, and I know someone else does here too, but who?) and at the end 
of the series she gets married?! I'm getting sick and tired of it all. 
Why can't she just ride off into the sunset like a male hero (meaning no 
offense)? I mean, it's happened in practially every fantasy book that 
I've read! 
     Well, the school bell just rang, so I'd better part ways. But 
before I go, does anybody here watch StarTrek: DeepSpaceNine, or 
Silders?

Greetings.  I suppose it's time for the little being (ie. me) in the 
corner to rear her little head, pop off some nonsense and hide away again.
ML told us that at least SOME of the Companions are reincarnated Heralds. 
I was under the impression that the Grove-born and the Original 
Companions are actually avatars. Now, avatars of what, I cannot say since 
Valdemar has no single God or Goddess, per say. 

Anyway, that's what *I* think. What *you* think is probably different. :)

I like Nicole Kidman too, I think she has a good face for Talia but I
think that she is way too tall.  From Misty's description Talia is
supposed to be tiny.  That's why Dirk called her "little bird."  Kidman
is almost 6 feet tall and because of that she just would not fit.  How
about Anna Paquin from The Piano and Fly Away Home?

Who from that show? (I have all of the episodes on tape. I found out about that video collection of episodes right after I got my first summer job paycheck, I was feeling very silly, and I really liked the RPG.) The guy who played Julian? Or someone else? 

Oh, and whoever it was who said that Claudia Christian (Ivanova on B5) would make a good Kero, I agree, except that the idea of her as a blond makes me want to hide under the table and whimper. But she does have the right aditude.

Um.....obmisty.........um.........ok...........arrghhhh...................oh, why not...............Did the back cover of Magic's Pawn make anyone else wonder who writes those things? Ok, so it isn't much of an obmisty, but my dad is hovering and wants me off of the computer.
