Holmes would have solved the murder, given Hamlet a much-needed talking-to about letting his emotions get in the way of his sleuthing, and told him that the only thing he did _right_ in the play was to tell Ophelia to go to a nunnery. For those of you that might remember me from before, I was a regular on this list about a year ago but loads of schoolwork and a ridiculously busy summer took me off the list. With the recent call to resubmit our status on the list I decided to join up again. I have missed discussing my favorite books and enjoying the friendliness of all my list-sibs!!! I live in Maine, I am a junior in high school (my 17th birthday is in 20 days!!!) and my favorite authors are, most obviously, Mecedes Lackey, David Eddings, and Jennifer Roberson. For those of you familiar with the Elenium and Tamuli trilogies, you will know where my handle comes from. My real name is Danae Burgess but on the internet I frequently go by the name Lady Aphrael. Anyways......I am happy to be back and I am about to go start rereading The Last Herald Mage series. Reading all the stuff about my favorite books have made me realize how much I have missed reading them!!!!! Thanks to everyone and I look forward to meeting all the new people that I have yet to meet and also to remember old times with those that have been around since before me. All that bit about writing to spec, back-stabbing, etc ... Chantal/Aerden wrote about dear ol' Hamlet needing Sherlock Holms. All I can say is - *LOL*!!! Either that or a really good phychiatrist. I always felt a bit sorry for Horatio, having to put up with Hamlet all the time ... Think of the good Talia could have done in THAT tangled web! Imagine - she could drag Hamlet out of depression, prevent Ophelia from going mad (if she couldn't get to Hamlet fast enough), AND bring Clauduis to justice in a *snap*. Of course, that would mean no plot, and therefore no play, and therefore no reserch paper for me to write! YAY! I'd have put a slight twist on that - even after the 10th or 12th time, if something new comes out that puts different light on what i've already read, then I pick up new things when re-reading for the umpteenth time. I know this may not be a popular response, but I'm not sure I want to see more of Dirk/Talia. Yes, they are some of my favorite characters, and yes, I did feel a little frustrated by the ending, but.... I'm frankly afraid I might not like the characters so much if there's too many stories about them. I'd like to find out more about some of the wizard schools - maybe a short story/stand alone (heck - a trilogy would be great!) about a white winds wizard, one who travels a lot, grows up, etc. Hmmm... it would interesting to see a wizard fall in love with (lifebond to?) a herald or a tayledras or ... well, you get the idea. I'd also like to see a storyline (is that better?) that involved the empire (maybe it's early days - the first or sedond emporer?). We know what happened to most of Urtho's allies, it would be intriguing to see what happened to Ma'ar's (sp?) - wasn't the empire founded by some of his fleeing confederates? last, I also find it annoying when characters drop off when they find love/get married (which is what I didn't like about Arrows - but that it didn't happen was a good thing in Winds) - life just gets more complicated with someone else around. wind to your wings *new use name* caitra ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 12 Jan 1999 13:26:30 EST From: "Freedom Walker" To: mercedes-lackey-+AT+-herald.co.uk Subject: Re: Talia Question Message-ID: <19990112182631.12463.qmail-+AT+-hotmail.com> Question about Talia: Several of the later books mention that she is a Sun priestess. "here's one more idea. a story just with the shin'a'in. i'm getting sick with the hawkbrothers. no offense people" Nun taken, at least not here. It would be interesting to see how their people evolved after the mage wars. A people that had once depended so much on magic now abandoning it and finding a new, nonmagical way to accomplish things. "it would be intriguing to see what happened to ma'ar's - wasn't the empire founded by some of his fleeing confederates?" I'm not at all sure who founded the Empire but anything after the magewars would be very interesting to read for the simple reason that a whole soceity had just colapsed. Who founded carse? Does any one know, or have any idea? That would be a great story to read not just about the founding but maybe about how the rulers got corrupted and why their God would have allowed it.! zhai'helleva, Gisela ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 12 Jan 1999 16:50:04 -0800 (PST) From: Lynne Walker To: mercedes-lackey-+AT+-herald.co.uk Subject: Re: braid Message-ID: <19990113005005.20548.rocketmail-+AT+-send204.yahoomail.com> Heyla all, here's my opinions on stuff. ---Kristy Lyseng wrote: > Winterstar wrote: > >*groggily wakes up, turning to Kristy and asks, "I thought someone > >mentioned Canadian World Domination? As Saturday morning cartoons go, Pinky & the Brain isn't bad, except that my son starts singing the theme song & since he can't remember all the words...it gets a LITTLE maddening. > Micheal wrote: >...M'lords and ladies I am new here so please pardon me for not being very > >talkative at this moment.... Welcome Michael, watch out for anyone carrying a bucket. Here's a big fluffy sheep towel to carry around with you. Don't worry, this will all make sense in a little while. (stuff about the Silver Gryphons got accidently deleted. Bad delete mouse, bad!) More stuff about the Silver Gryphons wouldn't be bad, but maybe in short stories format. I wasn't really fond of the novel, but yet, I bought it!?! > >>A trilogy dealing with the Empire--maybe Chariliss's early life and > >> reign > >Ohhhhh! Interesting. > > Nah, enoguh with the Empire. Charliss, the worst part of Storms. I just could NOT get interested in it at all. Just remember that when CfWD takes over, we can smack those people with wet sheep repeatedly!!!!! To: mercedes-lackey-+AT+-herald.co.uk Subject: Re: braid Message-ID: <19990113012328.16241.qmail-+AT+-hotmail.com> <> Y'know, the Sun Crusher always reminded me of the little wedge-shaped ships from StarCon... the ones piloted by raccoons. They were awful wimpy. <<"My name is Inigo Montoya. You murdered my father. Prepare to die.">> Love that movie. There's just something about it--either you love it or you don't care for it, and if you love it you love it more every time you watch it. And after a while you can practically quote the whole damn thing. I want a teeshirt that reads Westley Never Dies. Waitaminit--you left out the 'Ello! That quote isn't complete without the 'Ello at the beginning. On to the Misty. Quite frankly, I have no particular urge to read any more about Talia and Dirk. If Misty wants to write some more about them, okay, great, I'll read it cheerfully and probably like it fine. But--they've suffered. They've overcome. They've found each other, settled down, had a kid. I'd be kind of annoyed if Misty chose to drag them out and torment them again, especially now that they've earned their due and neither of them are as young as they used to be. And really, they're not my favorite characters. Give me Kero--she's tough, she can deal. She'd only begun to arrange her internals at the end of her book, and from the looks of things she fully expects and has prepared to be smacked upside the head by life again before she dies. Or give me Karal, who has miles to go before he's reached the same place Talia and Dirk live in on a daily basis. Give me all-new characters and all-new villains, so long as I can sympathize and live vicariously through them. I could even stand to hear some more about Elspeth and Darkwind, depending. I'd just as soon Talia and Dirk stuck to cameos in books about other characters. Talia's impromptu Sun-priestesship has been addressed and readdressed; I won't muck with it. Nor will I mess with the 'what would they be?' thread. I have no clue. Someone asked who Ivanova is--Ivanova is Babylon 5's kick-ass female second-in-command, at least until she left and got her own ship. She's played by Claudia Christian (who made a cameo in the Highlander series as an equally kick-ass immortal with a human lover, and remained much like Ivanova) and is extremely Keroesque, aside from not being blonde. I'd prefer she stayed that way, myself. Kero's character does not depend on her being blonde. Zha'hai'allav'a, Raven Darkblade, Holy Hand of the Goddess of Elves, Member of the Mistic Circle, Knight and Founding Member of the Order of Unsung Heroes, Advocator of Eldan, Champion of Kethra and Hyllarr, Devotee of Maclyn, and Worshipper of Tal Rufen; and Mor the raven, her familiar. abbykat-+AT+-hotmail.com http://www.angelfire.com/ky/Ashke/casting.html ______________________________________________________ Get Your Private, Free Email at http://www.hotmail.com ------------------------------ End of MERCEDES-LACKEY Digest 1842 **********************************
