I was on this list before, but I unsubbed 4 or 5 months ago. Anyway, I checked this e-mail account the other day, and I got some messages from the list! I was a little bit surprised, but I had been thinking about re-subbing, so I decided it was I sign, and I'm back (at least for a while). And, as for obMisty, I just reread Arrows, and I had a question. On page 50 of Arrow's Fall Selenay's talking about Elspeth marrying and says, "I'm hoping for her to have a lovematch, and that with someone who is at least Chosen if not a Herald." I don't really understand this comment. The only people I can think of she'd be referring to are the trainees, but she's talking about a permanent relationship, which means they'd be a Herald, or if they didn't, she wouldn't want Elspeth marrying them. So why does she make this distinction? You could say something along the lines of ummm! The last Herald Mage books are great reads with the ability to make one live the character's joys and sorrows. It has a good plot and if it does not inthrawl you right away, give it til the third chapter. The lhm books are my fav too. I don't know if that will help, still half a sleep. Katie asked about why selanay made the distinktion between a herald and a non herald. I shink this was done not because she would object if Elspeth were in a relationship with a nonherald, but because due to her own experience with a nonherald she wanted to make sure Elspeth was in love with a good person and if the match were not a love match and she did end up with a herald, she new that the herald would not try to take her kingdom away from her. Let's see, I don't know very many actors, I haven't read the OwlStuff books, and I swore I would never bring up the genetics/Gifts thread again...uh... Okay - we discussed a while ago how Misty worked with not-entirely-evil evildudes. I feel she's been more consistent (and often more successful) with producing not-entirely-good good guys. I mean, Vanyel had his priggish moments, Di Tregarde dropped the ball on occasion, and Urtho's motives were not always the purest. It seems like, while a writer can sometimes get away with creating wholly evil bad guys, good guys without flaws are almost universally annoying. I wonder why it's so much easier to believe in total evil than total good. Which do you guys feel makes a better story, a villain with redemption potential or a hero with serious character flaws? I talked to Teri of Firebird music quite a while back concerning the Shadowdancer and Sunsinger pair. At that time she said that Misty had no intention of writing a story about those two - something I would love to see too. All we can do is hope that she changes her mind. On another note - someone (sorry I can't recall who - LOTS of email today) commented on the prices of music from Firebird. Yes it is higher then your average top 10 CD, for a very good reason. Production costs. Firebird Music is a small operation and they have to be able to make a profit on a lot smaller run then the people who are currently popular mainstream wise. Where Capital records prints CD's in the millions I suspect that Firebird is probably printing in the hundreds. I for one am overjoyed that they exist! Check your CD's/tapes and you'll find that Firebird is the producer. If Firebird wasn't there to produce them I doubt anyone else would. I even buy my "mainstream" Celtic CD's from them because I want to do what I can to keep them around to produce more wonderful music. I consider the extra dollar or two I pay well worth the investment. By the way I highly recommend the tape (not on CD - yet!) "Wizard & the Eleven King" by Emrys Atkinson. This tape starts with "The Wizard of Alderley Edge" a excellent song which involves Merlin and farmer. It has both serious and humorous songs on it. I LOVE "The Battle of Hastings" - its a riot! Time to get back of the soapbox. Seriously though folks. We are a nitch market and we are VERY lucky that someone found us and is willing to produce the product we enjoy. Back to the library - I've got to get ready for the coming tax season (joy). Someone remind me to buy a can of oil. The door hinges are rather noisy.
