I blame it on the software *g* As for an ObMisty, in Velgarth, Misty doesn't do much with the traditional mythic creatures... except in the Pelagirs. I remember seeing a basilisk in the Winds books, and then the firebird. Can anyone think of any other creatures that are in there or perhaps you would want to see in there :). I want some unicorns, but we already have Companions, sooo... :) Going to play in the snow, Wintershard Councilor of Mist http://www.herald.co.uk/local_info/rules_thumb.html http://www.ling.udel.edu/hyde/pers/misty/newbiefest.html ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 30 Jan 1999 12:17:00 -0500 From: Rachel Hawkins To: mercedes-lackey-+AT+-herald.co.uk Subject: A Newbie...sort of Message-ID: <36B33E8B.4CBC2736-+AT+-purdue.edu> Hi I'm Rachel. I've been on this list before but due to the traffic of the list I had to unsubscribe. Well I'm back! I'm currently reading Oathblood, been reading it for weeks now because school keeps me so busy. Peter Allen said: "I want some unicorns, but we already have Companions" Why can't you include unicorns? They aren't the same as Companions. What do you have in the list of creatures so far? I've manage to completely loose all of my info, ouch. That hurts a lot!! Now on to the misty! amber moon wrote: sorry but i don't see why she has to be any religion at all or even religious. i personally am an athiest and dislike organized religion ... i know most of the world is religious but i don't know if mercedes lackey is or not. it doesn't really matter much in my opinion. You'r right! It really doesn't matter if she has a religion or not, I was just commenting because it seems that in her writing, (especially in her portraial of the Heralds,) that belief in a higher power is sort of within each person. Although the heralds are not "religious," they do believe in something. It'll be neat to see all the sheep references in all of the velgarth books compiled, goodluck and thanks Raven. I think That quality is what makes an author memerable or not, but commercially viable options are based on what the people read, no!? If something seems to cell a lot then people will cash in on it. Looks like we'll have to make due with the good stuff that comes out and be sad over the rest. "have any of you ever read an author by the name of lynn flewelling? she is really really good and very mistyish. .. i was wondering if someone else had discovered this author." I've heard of her, but have not been able to get any of her books. Next time I go to the library I need to make a special note to search for one of her books. Are they in a series, or something, or can I just read them as I find them? Tensen, What don't you like about braiding. I personally think it makes things easier for everyone to know who said what, although I think you're right about not reading unclear messages. one more thing. I know that I would like to see Dragons, maybe a fenix? Why can't there be unicorns? Sorry for the noncreative poast, but I'm not really inspired and I have an English test next Tuesday and my teacher gave no idea what to concentrate on so wish me luck. lady g ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 30 Jan 1999 11:26:43 PST From: "Abigail Laughlin" To: mercedes-lackey-+AT+-herald.co.uk Subject: Re: MLML sig/Pelagirs Message-ID: <19990130192643.21519.qmail-+AT+-hotmail.com> <> Well, I don't recall any dragons in Velgarth, and the ones in the SERRAted Edge books were exceedingly non-traditional. I have this immutable mental image of Chinthliss as Mr. Spock in Armani now--just started watching the Star Trek special editions on the Sci-Fi channel and am reminded of why I liked Spock so much. Gryphons, yes, but they were rather underused 'til she got hold of them... the basilisk wasn't along the traditional lines; in most of the tales I've heard they're small creatures and turn whatever looks at them into stone. Cold-drakes, I recall hearing about before, sort of, and firebirds as well, but never with much explanation of what they were. I'm rather fond of unicorns, pegasi, alicorns, hippogriffs, and hippocampi (horse lover, could you tell?) but with the Companions those are probably unlikely. Nothing comes to mind that I'd really, really like to see in Misty's work; I'm content to sit back and be a spectator. People with wings would be neat. I suppose she touched on that with the tervardi. Something avariel-esque (avariel=winged elves from AD&D) would be fun, though.
