LOL. I have been here off and on for a year! I am celebrating my success! Even through blizzards, finals, grade reports, and grounding's I still managed to stay on! YAY! Raven Darkblade, I will write you pm now to explain where I am. As per everyone else I'd feel better if I had another helper.... Other than that I will announce when I am going to launch it so that if you want to join you can tell me then. The matter of a name is still a problem. The setting is like Misty's world ... note I said LIKE. Emphasis won't be so much on magic, but the sword yes. We shall see how it comes about though. If all the players want something different like I said I am open. The name though should follow along the lines of a sword/sorceress base. Jumping for joy! I am getting published! A poem of mine is getting published! I don't believe it! This is so cool. ObMisty O W L F L I G H T Good enough space...... tee hee. I thought this book was okay. By far not one of my favorites but most absolutely a good book that I will read again ... then again I feel that way about all of Misty's books! LOL. What made it so good though I think is that he was able to join and stay with the Hawkbrothers. And that at the end he gets to be the village mage and not just but a representative for the Hawkbrothers there. I hope that those villagers feel real guilty every time he does something to help them from now on. O W L F L I G H T Okay! That is all for now. It was supposedly something genetic, maybe it'd been floating around in the gene pool for a while and it just hadn't surfaced until Randale. What did you say to your mom to get her to read LHM? I want my mom to read but I don't know how to suggest it to her... > And also, I have forgotten something... If Jisa wasn't Randales, then > how was she heir? Did they just pretend she was? Shavri and Randale were never married so Jisa couldn't have been Queen unless they were married. She was never heir. She married the heir, I think his name was Trev or something like that, and that put her back in line to the throne. That's why Shavri was so upset when she found out that they were engaged. They convinced one of the elvensteeds to take the shape of a 'stock fantasy' unicorn because Tannim promised Tania he'd show her one (a unicorn, that is, not an elvensteed). There is a Unicorn in The Fire Rose, but it's *far* from stock fantasy and isn't even described, since Rose wasn't wearing her glasses and couldn't see more than a bright blur. <> Oh, I recall what was said about them in MPawn... I just meant that thought I'd heard about them before reading MPawn, I didn't remember much about them. Same with firebirds. <> I don't generally use usename-like names, but I do have a somewhat strange method of choosing names... Reading a name gives me a sense of a color--or, more often, a combination of colors. I generally choose names for my characters based on the color combination that bests suits them both in appearance and personality. For instance, the character of Raven (from whom I took my list name) is very pale, with black hair and vivid blue eyes--tends to wear black or midnight blue or dark grey, and is a very dark, gritty woman. The name Raven is black, almost shiny obsidian-black, with highlights of deep purple, midnight blue, and hints of very deep, dark red. Some names are easier to sense colors for than others. Some letters have their own colors, and tend to dominate things--like e, which is green, c, which is yellow-gold, and o, which is white. I don't know why or how I do it, but it happens. That's how I generally choose names. Zha'hai'allav'a, Raven Darkblade and Mor the Raven, Holy Hand of the Goddess of Elves, Member of the Mistic Circle, Knight and Founding Member of the Order of Unsung Heroes, Advocator of Eldan, Champion of Kethra and Hyllarr, Devotee of Maclyn, and Worshipper of Tal Rufen. abbykat-+AT+-hotmail.com http://www.angelfire.com/ky/Ashke/ ______________________________________________________ Get Your Private, Free Email at http://www.hotmail.com ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 01 Feb 1999 19:02:35 -0500 From: Danae To: mercedes-lackey-+AT+-herald.co.uk Subject: Jisa as heir/Hawkbrother naming Message-ID: <3.0.5.32.19990201190235.007f9380-+AT+-ime.net> Heather wrote: >And also, I have forgotten something... As for me, I chose the name Rainsong for a lot of reasons....some profound and others pretty obvious. First of all as for the most obvious ones....Rain is my favorite weather and I love music and I love to sing. Those are obviously not the main reason I chose the name but they fit and the more things about the name you choose that fit you, the closer you have come to finding the right name for you. To me "Rainsong" (the musical sound rain makes when it falls) can be many things which all represent facets of my personality. The sound of rainfall can be comforting and lulling, companionable, gentle and relaxing, or strong and powerful but it can also be deep and introverted, sometimes even a little frightening. This may sound really corny but all the forms that rain can take on all reflect different aspects that reflect me. Also, the sound of rainfall to me is the most wonderful sound in the world (I even have a rainstorms tape that I listen to when I can't sleep). Hope that helps and I hope you can find a good Tayledras name. ~Rainsong~ ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 01 Feb 1999 16:24:54 PST From: "Becky Morse" To: mercedes-lackey-+AT+-herald.co.uk Subject: Re: A little help please..... OK, I just got back on the list and though I haven't kept up with Misty's books and I am attempting to remedy that, I am writing to enlist some help. One of the classes that I am currently taking is "Bible, Myth and Literature" and, in essence, discusses Biblical (and then Mythical) influences in Literature. Though I already have a short story to use in my presentation, I would like to include Misty (if possible) in my paper. Basically, I have "Miracles," specifically miracles perfomed by Jesus in the New Testament. What I am looking for in Misty's books (which I am sure exist, but for the life of me I can't find) are references to anything that MIGHT be connected to a miracle in the Bible, including healing miracles, walking on water, feeding many people, resurrection, water into wine, etc. They don't have to be directly linked, but I can imply the link. What I need though are the references (books and pages) so that I can include them. My prof (a nun) WANTS me to find some because she doesn't think it's possible. I figured the minds of the entire list is better than mine alone....I would appreciate ANY and ALL help given! Thanks! Sera and Shea Bright the Day!! I believe one reference point you might want to look at is in "Oathbreakers" starting at page 205. Kethry is the beneficiary of a Healing on a major scale. Hope that helps a little!! I would love it if someone already has, it would save me the trouble of doing it myslef! :) thankz! OK... I'll admit it... I have collected some (not all) of the Shin-a-in quotes. And my favorite quote in all the Misty books thus far is one about sheep... Vanyel is in the Garden when his Father comes to visit. When his father claims to have come to see about his health, Van tells him, No, you've come because you've heard I've been playing Ewe to 'Lendel's Ram. {paraphrased} ObMisty: (Gasp, the Proud Knight of Fluff has an ObMisty!!) While searching Amazon.com for the trilogies, I found a new book by Misty called Werehunter. Does anyone know what it's about? NO!!! but I want!!!! Will look next time I stumble drukenly into B&N... (the scent of new books is intoxicating, especailly when I have money in my pocket ) ok... it's late and I have early classes... Standing slienlty on the edge of the forest the youngster watched knowing he was also being watched. He called out to his freind, Eion. The snow white elf-owl hooed from the branches above, and soared down on silient wings to join his bond. The Vale was there, in sight, but forever out of reach. He ran his hand through his reddish brown hair, that was already begining to streak in white. He needed help, and fast, but he was told only these folk held the answers to his questions. Eion encouraged him to approach, there was a hawkbrother up ahead, one who was waiting for his bond to decide to approach. Eion churred next to his ear and the young man smiled, but he was nervous. Suddenly there was movement to his right, caught unawares the youngster responded. He pulled on the energy around him and concentrated it imploding the force around the attacker. The Hawkbrother who got the drop on the intruder was not prepared for the use of majik, he fell backwards under the shockwave that exploded the air around him with a crack he could feel but not hear... "you must be Silent Thunder, we've been expecting you." The youngster didn't know what to say, or to think. He nodded mutely, and followed as he was escorted into the vale. Again Eion aided him in being understood. The little owl who had been his constant companion since he lost the ability to speak churred in pleasure against his neck, and they were happy. == May stars light your path and moonbeams guide your way, (ô\/ô) Wind to thy wings, //||||\\ =xx= Anderson "Silent Thunder" MacFey www.geocities.com/area51/dreamworld/9792 _________________________________________________________ DO YOU YAHOO!? Bardic voices the church and religion sounds a lot like Christianity... What else? Hm... can't think of anything right now... If Jisa wasn't Randales, then > how was she heir? Did they just pretend she was? Jisa wasn't the Heir, Trev was. That is why he was rushed into Whites. They all pretended Jisa was Randis' kid so that he could keep the possability of a political marriage open. Shavri said something to Trev along the lines of:- " Do you know how hard I fought to keep Jisa out of the line of succession? By marrying her you've put her right back in." Jisa couldn't become Heir because she was illigitimate, it would only have happened if all the other lines of Randis family had not produced someone who was a herald. Jisa would Rule as Co-Consort with Trev because she was going to be chosen. > Okay... so how did Trevan (?) get to be king? Wasn't he from Lineas > or someplace? No Herald? Awwww. Well, if I couldn't be a Herald I'd be happy to just work as a stable hand for the regulars horses at the palace in Haven. That way I could still work with horses, which is one of the main reason I'd want to be a Herald. Or if there were people like vets back then, I'd go there. Something that involves taking care of animals, definatly. I think that I would be an archivist of some sort or a librarian, if you will. I can spend hours upon hours reading, sorting, researching, and just hanging around books. I also have often wanted to go back to school and get my Masters in Library Science, even if I had no practical use for it. What the hey, I have two "practical" degrees now!
