I am ready to move!:rubbing hands happily together in glee:: The list name will be Circle of Stone. I decided quite suddenly that I LIKE that name a lot. so that is what it shall be.... Now then. I have not officially made anyone on list yet. Right now I am looking for 2 people. 2 only that have time enough to spare to be List Keepers with me as was suggested ... and a good idea it was to!: The list keepers will okay characters and major events that change the whole list otherwise it is between the two or three effected members if there is a change.... I can go on about it in more detail after I have 2 List keepers. If you can, if you are interested please write me with the subject line being List Keepers App or something to that effect with (offlist) in it somewhere so I know the rest of the list did or didn't see that post. Thanks! Soon CoS can accept members that announcement will follow. Thanks! Well, I better have a pretty good ObMisty after all of that non-list stuff.....ummm....here is one. I do think that the grading system at the Collegium was a Pass/Fail situation where students were tested to see what they did know, and if it was sufficient, they went on, and if it wasn't they didn't. I do agree that our education system should be reformed to include more of this type of grading. Also, I think it's different to "know" something than it is to "understand" it. Afterall, I knew enough of what worked in algebra to get by, (to get decent grades) but was lost in algebra 2, because I really hadn't understood the concepts in algebra one. I managed to fight free for a few seconds to catch-up. (AAAARRRGH, such interesting topics and I couldn't reply!) *bites table in frustration* Well, on with the fun: Heather Arnold (Typo) wrote: > Raven talked about names, sounds, and color... > > See, now - that's weird, because I also see characters/sounds in terms of > colors, but mine are entirely different. For instance, I equate "a" (as > in 'ate') with bright, clear, crayon-box red, "o" (as in "oh") with dark > brown, "e" (as in east) with bright yellow, etc., etc. Hu, I always see songs in colour. My favourites are those in swirling black, red, violet, dark blue and grey. Never liked those I picture yellow, golden or brown (those are called "happy sappy trallalla songs" :) ) My characters (RPG or self-written stories) tend to be coloured black, red, violet, dark blue or grey. And recently, all shades of green. (I entered the green period, he he he). I'm drowning here... ;) Sometimes I even know how people smell. My nose is very good and in Real Life (TM) I know my friends apart by smell. (They don't stink!) So smell is important for me. Elspeth always had a very nice earth colour, you know, a very rich, dark brown with tinges of gold and green, kind of sunny autumn day persona Vanyel was red, violet and black, with bits of grey (all swirling like long hair in a storm), he smells male but very tender, very fragile. Karal I always pictured orange and yellow but very drab colours, very boring, you know. Tarma was always black, a sort of shimmering black, with rainbow highlights, smells of wood fire and horses (I like that smell!) Kethry was blue and white, very shiny colours, luminious (is this a word?), like a painted glass window where the sun shines through, tinges of gold and silver, flowery smell Skif: yes, grey, all shades of darker grey, smells of leather Nyara: cat-fur brown with darker highlights, smells like cat, tastes like cat, feels like cat And Typo-Heather again: > And on a completely unrelated note, does anyone else find that their > Zodiac sign traits are sometimes entirely too accurate? Ugh, ugh, ugh. I personally always wanted to > be a Scorpio. Why? I don't know. Maybe because they seem grey. :P ;) Gee, I am a Scorpio and never wanted to be anything else! It's great! But I do not see me as grey, I am rather black with red, purple and violet. Very agitated colouring. I'm so used to my PC. And then I am a book addict. I collect them, I buy them, I sell them, and I make paperbacks into hardcovers myself. This is great fun for I can choose my own design for a book, ripping of bad, tasteless and inappropriate paperback covers and binding the book into new covers with wrapping papers or photographs or old calender pictures or pictures I painted myself, anything that "feels" right for the book in question. ********* FLUFF ********* Torell, the Jester is much amazed when the freeze dry sheep in his hands suddenly turns into a real sheep. There have recently been some comments about the rising tide of off-topic fluff on the Misty List. Please remember, this list is a place for discussing the works of Mercedes Lackey, primarily, and other topics are secondary at most. While the list would be unutterably boring with no fluff at all, let's all try to keep the fluff levels down to a reasonable limit. That means that most of your messages should be on topic, with some fluff mixed in; not mostly fluff with some ObMistys mixed in. =) ObMistys (for the uninitiated, an ObMisty is "obligatory Misty content") are used for the *occasional* fluffy message to add a bit of on-topic discussion. But if you find yourself sending lots of messages that consist of lots of non-Misty off-topic stuff with a short ObMisty at the end, you are heading into the "no-no zone". On-topic fluff is fine, of course, as well as a certain amount of "venting", but things like using the Misty List as a place to discuss and organize a different mailing list or a place to discuss role-playing characters, web-page design, etc, are a bit beyond the pale. =) So, let's all work together and try to bring the "on-topic level" back up. And if you are tempted to argue that "we should be able to use this mailing list for any topic we want", just remember that we are all guests here, and that the mailing list costs many people money. It would be very rude of us to force our list sibs to pay money for off-topic fluff. Not to mention that it's not very considerate of Auntie Mel, who is hosting the list on her *business* computers. So, if nothing else, remember that when you reduce the fluff level, you are reducing the needless burden on Mel's computer. =) And that's a nice thing to do. I would say a person is "flaming" someone else when they in some way belittle or ridicule or disagree in an inappropriate manner (like "hey stupid, where did you that stupid idea come from" or insert your own derogatory comment instead of stupid) with someone else's posting - either with the idea in the post or to the person who made the post. There have been civilized disagreements on this list - that's not flaming. There have been gentle reminders about the purpose of the list - those aren't flaming. Saying something stupid doesn't necessarily mean people are going to jump on your back - i'm constantly misreferencing books, which is pretty stupid, but people have kindly pointed out the error of my ways. Saying something mean means that you're flaming (unless, perhaps, you couch it in such diplomatic terms that even the god of nomenclature doesn't realize you're being mean), and my guess is that someone, if not a group of people probably would jump on your back for that. obmisty (since the above, while about the list, was not about misty): I have to admit I've had a hard time imagining in my head what hawkbrother mage garb looks like - or special occasion garb like wedding robes. Hmm....I'm also year of the rooster, and tend to think much the same thing. I'm a Taurus in traditional astrology, and that's neither here nor there. But I found something on Egyptian Astrology a while ago, and it's surprisingly fitting. My best friend and I happened to be the same sign (they go with short intervals that repeat at different points in the year) and it described us both so well that it was scary. It was almost as if someone combined all of the things that we have in common, and wrote it on the card. It even correctly guessed our favorite colors. Mom's and my other best friend's were right on target, too. It was weird. And a whole bunch of people have been talking about the Tayledras costumes, so I might as well chime in. I tend to think of a lot of their outfits as being sort of fringey in a weird way. I can't really describe it. Urrghh...work, brain....urgghhh...oh well. Oh, and on a different topic entirely, why on earth did Within think it was a good idea to send Van to Haven? Let's review....he's sending his son to a female relative to "make a man out of him," he's tried to shelter Van from certain concepts and now he's sending him to the Big City, where he might learn of such things, and many other things like that when you start to think of it. Anyone have any thoughts? And I hope you get feeling better soon, Lady Starlight. I know I had 20 million other things that I wanted to say when I posted to this list, but they all scampered off once I started typing. Oh well. L.J.
