I too have a list of ML books/stories, its 90% correct and up to date. You can find it at: http://homepages.infoseek.com/~dakorillon/MISTY.htm As for why Withen sent Van off? Vanyel was just hiding out at home, was avoiding weapons lessons and his mother coddled him atrociously. Within wanted to get him away from Mommy's bower. Also, Father Leron suggested he be sent away to Haven, where he could be schooled at court, trained up some and have no access to music. It was a punishment. I think Within had no idea that Savil would disobey his orders and allow Vanyel so much access to what he wanted to do. Sorry about not having names for every quote, but They've been lost somewhere. someone wrote: "the grief was tangible. most people look at me funny when i say that but i'm very sensitive to emotions and i swear the grief wrapped around me as soon as i walked into the building." I know how that can be. I'm fairly sensative to emotional moods too and it can get pretty bad, to the point where I will get depressed if someone I know is depressed, eventhough I have no reason to be. The closer I am to the person the worse it gets. If you have, then I'd suggest that you just give her time to snap out of it. I don't remember getting like that when I was a senior, but who knows? My friends never said anything to me and I remember having friends that were freshmen. l. j. thompson wrote: i found something on egyptian astrology a while ago and it's surprisingly fitting. my best friend and i happened to be the same sign (they go with short intervals that repeat at different points in the year) and it described us both so well that it was scary. it was almost as if someone combined all of the things that we have in common and wrote it on the card. it even correctly guessed our favorite colors. mom's and my other best friend's were right on target too. it was weird. Can you tell me where to find that or if you have it handy, I'm a lebra. born September 28, 1976, can you mail me off list and tell me what it says, thanks! also wrote: "oh and on a different topic entirely why on earth did within think it was a good idea to send van to haven? let's review....he's sending his son to a female relative to "make a man out of him" he's tried to shelter van from certain concepts and now he's sending him to the big city where he might learn of such things and many other things like that when you start to think of it. anyone have any thoughtsth" I have several thoughts on the subject. One is that savil is high up in the government and she could get Van trained by the best there was in combat, (which was the big problem,) in within's openion. Also he could have just been trying to get rid of Van for a while. He must have known that Van would be totally lost in Haven, so maybe just to punish him for being a bad son? Oh, or maybe deep down inside he knew Van was not cut out for being a lord and that was his way of giving Van a chance to succeed at something else. Just my thoughts! Thanks to AutumnLief for the different addresses to find Misty books. I'm sure that there will be other authors of interest as well. I also want to thank the nice listsib that gave out the address for the languages of Velgarth, been looking for something like that forever. a little request- Cennydd can you mail me offlist the titles of the books dealing with the jhereg because I cannot remember the author and I meant to read the one's I never read I read one about something Guard and 500 years after, but not any of the others. The Jgereg kind of remind me of the shin'ain a quote for every occasion. uh, Think I've babbled enough. I also want to wish lady Starlight a speedy recovery from her backinjoury. Here's a sheep cookey for you. Misty always says that whenever a mage or an adept uses their magical skills it dyes their hair white or silver, but how come it doesn't do the same for a person with Journeymen, channel or lesser status. They all use magic, right? So how come only mages and adepts have their hair dyed? Alright, alright, so this is a stupid question...... but it's been bugging me for the longest time..... :-D Obsidian - The Best Lies Are The Ones Still Believed ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 08 Feb 1999 00:45:42 -0500 From: Peter Allen To: mercedes-lackey-+AT+-herald.co.uk Subject: MLML Re: Mage Questions Message-ID: <3.0.6.32.19990208004542.0082a6e0-+AT+-pop3.frontiernet.net> Obsidian wrote: >So how come only mages and adepts have their hair dyed? Not a stupid question :). In Velgarth, Journeymen and such use their own internal energy in order to perform magic. Master-class mages (someone correct me if I'm wrong, please) are able to use the energy in leylines and so forth, and Adept-class mages are able to use the energy from nodes, the places where the leylines meet. It's in using this ley/node energy that someone taps into a different kind of energy, thus the bleaching is a result. It is also a reason as to why most of the Tayledras that are talked about have silver/white hair, because the Vales are built around their Heartstones, or powerful nodes. If the Tayledras aren't born with magic, they are still bathed in it constantly, and over time it causes them to change. Hope that this helps :) Bright be thy day in the sun, Wintershard Councilor of Mist http://www.herald.co.uk/local_info/rules_thumb.html http://www.ling.udel.edu/hyde/pers/misty/newbiefest.html ------------------------------ End of MERCEDES-LACKEY Digest 1869 **********************************
