Yes it is possible for a herald to look through his/her companion's eyes. The Herald doesn't need to have any special gifts but they do need to have an exeptionally strong bond to their companion. I forget which of the Arrows books this is in but there is one passage where this whole thing is decribed. It is Talia who discovers that her bond with Rolan is strong enough for her to be able to see throguh his eyes. If I remember correctly she tells Keren about her hypothesis and they decide to test it. They do several tests one of which is a maze. They set Rolan up on a hill overlooking the maze Keren has created for her and Talia is blindfolded. She negotiates the maze perfectly and passes all the other tests with flying colors. There are no painful consequences to doing this (if I remember correctly) but Talia does mention that the point of view is strange and it takes some getting used to. Well I don't remember where, but I think it was in the first book, in the Arrows books there is a section where Talia is testing the strength of her bond with Rolan and they blind fold her and have her go through an obstacle course using his eyes. She made it through successfully and the only point where she hesitated and that was because Rolan wanted to take the longer path. If I remember correctly her teachers thought that this ability was very special and proved the strength of her bond with Rolan. I think that if a Companion chose someone who was blind this might become one of their abilities. On the other hand if the person had been blind from birth, the images might be too much for them to handle. Karal could handle looking through Altra's eyes because he had been sighted before. Still Heralds are supposed to be adaptable so maybe that wouldn't be an issue. I was targeted for humiliation by no less than 6 people (not including old enemies from Grade School). Did I receive threatening notes? Yes, and I received threats. I was physically attacked. Things of mine were stolen. Hurtful things were said about me behind my back but deliberately within hearing distance. People came up to me and asked me rude questions. Total strangers were told stories about me; you know what it's like to go to summer camp and have someone from a city you've never been to confront you about a rumor spread by someone from your school? Of course, it didn't start there. There were those manipulative classmates of mine when I was 6 (6!!! first grade, for crying out loud!!) intent on making my life miserable (they lived on my street, too) with pranks such as directing me to the boys' washroom at recess my first day there, putting gum in my hair, scaring my pet birds at the science fair... This is a buddist belief -- one can be reincarnated as a gaki if the person ate dissapated foods during his life (if they were evil, they'd just go to hell (jigoku)) Each kind of gaki can have its own kind of food, from perfume to the aroma of food and their hunger is eternal. There are some which are harmless, but others who prefer human flesh and blood. In any case, most gaki are described as a thin, cadaverous man, or as having long skinny necks, with throats much too small for swallowing, and with the bloated stomachs common with severe malnutrition. However, they can take other forms to frighten prey. There is a buddist festival called Segaki which is a time when you remember gakis and others who cannot reach enlightenment.
