HOW COULD HE EVEN THINK OF DOING SOMETHING LIKE >THAT??????????? I think this was explained in a discussiona while back It was because of the Mage Storms that were happening at that time, and because he was a Healing Adept, so he was affected by what was happening to the land at that time. Plus the fact that he was afraid of being left alone and without a partner, plus his upbringing (being pampered because he was such a "rare commodity")... it all added up, I guess. It's explained after that scene in the ekele with Aya (where he goes berserk and starts wrecking everything). Silverfox says something about changes in Firesong's brain (not mind) that would not be noticeable. Hope that helped. In the beginning of WoChange, Elspeth is said to be twenty-six, but I don't see how that could be. In the beginning of Arrow's_Flight, when she is chosen, she is 13. That means when Talia returns a year and a half later, the oldest Elspeth could be is 15, if she was 13 and 1/2 before. Even that is suspect, because Elspeth was 7 when Talia first came to Haven, meaning she could only be 12 five years later in Arrow's_Flight, not 13 1/2 or even 13, as it says in the book. However, let's give her the benefit of the doubt and say she is 15 in Arrow's_Fall. In the very beginning of WoFate, in the prologue, the chronicles say it was 2 years from Ancar's first attempt to Kero's intervention, then 7 years after that to the time of WoFate. That's 9 years altogether, making her 24 at the most. Given the months it took to get to k'Sheyna, she could be 25 in WoChange, no more. And that's being very generous, giving a lot of half-years and grey areas, and ignoring the time between AotQ and AFlight. There is no way she could have been 26. Then there is Darkwind. In WoFate, p. 160 pb, it says "The last time they'd risen, he'd been fourteen . . . . The offspring of that mating were six or seven years old now". Given time for the pregnancy, Darkwind must be 21 or 22. Yet he is supposedly much older than that, Elspeth's age at least, far older than Dawnfire. I do not see how this could be. If anyone has any answers on either of these I would much appreciate it. age-defying sheep to all, Ambermoon Singer of Fire Get Your Private, Free Email at http://www.hotmail.com ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 17 Mar 1999 23:00:42 -0800 From: Yvonne To: mercedes-lackey-+AT+-herald.co.uk Subject: blue/green powder, o keys, bookstores, and bears - oh my!! It seems that there is a rather heated discussion about Talia goin on. I hope that everyone remembers their manners and that we are all on this list because of our appreciation of Misty's works and characters. EVERYONE is entitled to their own opinion. Let's respect each other's point of view and keep it friendly, hey? O-K, now for my humble opinion. I like Talia, I think she's a pretty char. I agree that her sleeping with Kris was a little odd in my book considering she was Lifebonded to Dirk, and that even if she didn't know, Kris did. Some say it was for comfort, um,hello? Ever heard of a friendly hug and kind words? Everyone needs comfort every now and then, it doesn't mean you go jump in bed with someone!! Well, that being said, I don't have any further problems with Talia. Now, on to Elspeth who seems to be another char on the go. I liked Elspeth alot, except when she was being a snot. I found her underlying character to be very sweet. She was insecure and tried to cover it up with being a bitch, hmmm, who does that sound like......oh! That's Right! Vanyel. (Whom I Adore!!) All this is just my opinion, and I'm totally fine with it if you want to disagree with me (but pleeeaaase don't flame me or gang up on me all at once!) ****a flying blur whizzes past Dawnfire's head as she ducks in the nick of time. A strangled yelp is heard as Tarsi flies into a berry-bush******* Any-way, my fave female characters would probably include Elspeth and Zhaneel and others i don't care to think about right now! ;op My fave male chars (yikes, that'd be a bid list!) include Darkwind,Vanyel Skandranon (pretty much all the gryphons!) and... actually, pretty much all the Tayledras, too! :o)) Th,Th,That's all Folks!!!!! I have to agree with this statement, firstly b/c I've been there and done that. Secondly, Talia was at a point mentally that required some major boosting of her self esteem. What better way to boost someones opinion of themself that for them to find out that someone else is attracted enough to them and finds them [pardon the choice of words] stimulating enough to want to have that kind of relationship with. the whole affair back at Haven was just a case of people not talking to each other and jumping to conclusions, Dirk was as much responsible for that as Kris and Talia. Message-ID: <19990318231017.13656.qmail-+AT+-hotmail.com> Heyla, Well, I've been silent for a while (schoolwork, you all know ho wit goes!)....here goes my 2 cents on the current debates. As for Talia, you have to admit that wheather you agree or disagree with the whole sex thing, that it made for interesting reading. And also, considering the lifestyle of Heralds in general, they would not have viewed it as wrong. Therefore, in those curcumstances, with those characters, I believe that it was okay. (Besides, it's a fantasy novel....the act wouldn't have any of the possible reprocussions that it would in real life. Have you ever heard of a Herald with AIDS? etc, etc, etc) Personally, I didn't really enjoy the whole Arrows trilogy. I liked it, but it wasn't one of the most interesting trilogies. Elspeth. What can I say? I loved her! I'll admit that there were times when she got very annoying, and I just wanted to slap her. But that all makes for a more interesting & dynamic character. Actually, Gwena (Elspeth's Companion) got on my nerves more than Elspeth did. She seemed very immature, and seemed to make really bad decisions at times. I guess it comes from being Grove-born. (Even though Talia's Companion was Grove-born, he had the experince of being bonded before.) ---------Well, that rambling was shorter than I expected-------------- Musings: I was sitting in English class today, and we were discussing Charles Dickens' novel Hard Times. There's a character in there named Mr. Thomas Gradgrind. (If any of you have read the novel, I think you'll appreciate this.) This man describes himself as "eminently practical." He doesn't like anything but facts, and believes that if something is not useful & practical, it should not be. (like fantasy novels, for instance) Like, he believes that one should not paper their walls with images of horses or carpet their floors with flower carpet because these things can not be in real life. Anyways, since my English class is unbarably boring, I was thinking, what would happen in someone like Mr. Gradgrind do if he suddenly found himself in a fantasy world like Misty's Velgarth? I think it would be quite amusing to see his reaction to a Companion, especially a very talkative one like Sayvil! Or what if he were to meet with a gryphon or a kyree. I think he'd probably go insane, or die of fright. *LOL* Could you just imagine? Ok, I think that's enough rambling for now! See what happens when I get bored! *L* Fun-filled sheep to all! --Lovesinger Get Your Private, Free Email at http://www.hotmail.com ------------------------------ End of MERCEDES-LACKEY Digest 1908 **********************************
