I love them both, especially Elspeth. To me she ranks up there with Kero, Savil, Need, and Lissa in my strong "women" catagorie. Her entire life she had been coddled as the Heir, and she never even got let out on circiut. So finally she gets let out, and is given a chance to do what the other Heralds do, and she's not going to let Skif or anyone else get in her way, or make up her mind for her. I totally understand her attitude. As for how she treated Skif, I've been in that situation before, where a male friend (whom I had no feelings for except friendship) decided he was in love with me, and let me tell you, it was damned annoying. He was acting silly and childish, and it was very hard for me to let him down gently because by that time I was so thouroughly annoyed with him. So I can identify with Elspeth's behavior towards him at that point. On to Talia... I did love Talia. She's a sweet-heart, but that doesn't mean that I agree with everything she did. I don't agree with her sleeping with Kris simply because of my belief system. I believe that not only should you be in love with the person, but I'm one of the few people left on Earth who believe it should wait until after the marriage.(Starshadow stops with a confused look on her face to apparently talk to herself, "Rachel, what are you doing here? this is the list, not the real world. On-list we're Tayledras not Catholic." "I know, but as long as we dwell within the same body I'm going to keep throwing in my 2 cents." "Ok, it's just that what we just said sounded rather strange coming from someone with a Tayledras use-name." "I know." Starshadow looks back up at her listsibs somewhat sheepishly. Anyway...) I also respect the "there is no one true way rule" and keep in mind that the cultures in Velgarth are not my own, and who am I to judge? Starshadow grins disarmingly at the strange looks she's getting from her listsibs. "You can't flame me," she says, "Because my name in the real world means 'female sheep;, and you wouldn't want to flame a sheep." I'm proud of myself, I got my mother to start reading LHM!!!!!(<---5) She read most of my Terry Brooks books, and liked them, so when she told me that she ran out of reading material, and asked if I had anything good (puh! what a question!) I proudly handed her LHM series. she has no homophobia that I know of, and what little of it she has I think this will help to dissipate it. I've just started reading Oathbound, and in the intro it says that MZ Bradley has some writing done on Tarma and Keth, and that Misty's is what happens after. I was wondering just how much MZB has written on Velgarth, and if so, how many of you have read it? Is it good? (Starshadow smacks herself on the side of the head, "Is it good?! What a question! I think it would be very hard to like another character named Ancar (or any other villian) even if it was in a book by a different author in a totally different setting. I wonder, if someone would compile a list of all the discrepancies (sp?) in Misty's books, and send it to her (or her publisher or something), if anything would get done about it. I mean, I wonder how many of the mistakes could be explained away, and I wonder if she would fix those that couldn't be explained & re-print the books. I guess that would be a lot of trouble, though. I really don't know what the big deal is about Talia and Kris. Yes, they did sleep together, but they weren't sure if Talia was lifebonded to Dirk. In fact (it's been a LONG while since I've read the Herald trilogy, so bear with me here) I think they didn't even know. Or else they didn't suspect it. And about Elspeth, she happens to be one of my favourite characters, so anybody who loves her as much as I do, I applaud your efforts. Remember, Elspeth hasn't had the greates history. She can have her little quirks of character, she isn't perfect, you know. But I have to say that my altime favourite is definetly Skan and Zhaneel. They're the best. In fact, all gryphons are the best. I like 'em better than the Tayledras, Heralds, Shin'a'in (maybe), and every weird thing ever introduced in Misty's Velgarth. Talia's personality sort of mirrored my own at the time, and looking back, yeah, she did seem to sometimes be a softie and not think, but nobody's perfect. She also suffered and lost irreplaceable things. During the course of the books, she was tortured, almost died a few times, and had to Feel loved ones deaths and agonies.
