Would some poor Companion Choose him/her in the hopes that (s)he could be changed<< On that one, I really don't know, so please don't flame me if I'm entirely wrong....It was my impression that there's a sort of cycle for the Heralds and Companions and that Companions can return as Heralds and vice versa (because didn't Florian tell Karal in the last Storm book to not be surprised to see a young man that closely resembled him in twenty years or so?). So it would stand to reason that, for the most part, those with the potential to become a Herald already have the Gifts and the personality/mentality to be Chosen. >>Or what if there were a person who would devote his/her life to Valdemar, with the perfect mindset for a Herald, who wished more than anything to be Chosen, but had no Gifts? All the Herlads we've met, as far as I know, have had some Gift or another, even if it was weak. Do you have any opinion on what would happen in the case of such scenarios?<< Again, correct me if I'm wrong! I have no books here with me to reference.....I think there was a story in Swords of Ice about a young lady who wanted to be Chosen, and had the correct mentality for it, but no Gift. She was told by another Herald that people like her don't need to be Chosen, that they can help people now, without a Companion's help. She had a strong enough character that no outside help was needed, unlike the Heralds, who usually have a Companion to help them with areas where they are weak. *She jumps about a mile out of her chair as something large and dark lands right on the back of the chair next to her head. "Dammit, you fuzzball, I wish you'd give me some warning!!" Li'nia a hand to her chest to see just how fast her heart is beating. :Sorry, but it's really time to go: Styx reminds her. Okay here's another "yeah but" Skif helped to train her didn't he? He should have at least been partially aware of the fact that she could take care of herself. First of all i think it was a little cold of Elspeth to hurt him like that. But then again i think she proved a better point than some of us could have. But Skif's persistance is one thing that i really LIKED about him. I thought it was sweet that he was so attached to Elspeth. I mean maybe not about the whole love thing, but when he wanted to protect her i mean. I just thought it was cute that he was so bent on protecting her. He didn't WANT an adult Elspeth because i think he really liked her depending on him. When she depended on him she showed a real respect for him that he liked. It was also one that not many people would have expected out of "the brat". All in all i think Skif was a little slow to pick up, but he had good intentions.
