I think in some cases they're the reason that some Heralds Gifts open at all. I _do_ agree with you about having the Healing open for Van later, I just think the cause is different. This particular fact is also one of the reasons why I think that Van could've become a Herald eventually. I believe that he _did_ have a little Foresight before the Disaster and getting Chosen. And even if it _hadn't_ gotten any stronger than it was at that time, he could still have been a Herald eventually. It said somewhere in one of the books that some Heralds don't have much more in the line of Gifts than an ordinary person. (no offense to any romance readers.) None taken. However, I would like to point out that there are some very well written Harliquin romance novels. I should know, My mom's really into romances at the moment and I've even read a couple. If anyone is interested in a few well written romances I'd suggest "The Standish Inheritance" or "King of the Castle" (I think that's the name...). These two are sort of at opposite ends of the Romance spectrum. If I hadn't been told that "King of the Castle" was a romance, I would never have known. It was more like a mystery book than anything else. "The Standish Iheritance" on the other hand is a lot more obvious that way. It's incredibly well written, and, I think, definitely worth reading. Now, I'm gonna drop a brick. I don't think most of us realize it, but a lot of the sci/fi and fantasy we read could be classified as romances. I'll even list the ones I'm relatively sure about for you. Most of the Xanth novels, "Children of the Jedi", "If I pay Thee Not In Gold", "The Fire Rose", "Winter Rose", "A College of Magics", "Mindspeaker's Call", "Damia", most of the Brainship series, "Summon the Keeper", "The Last Wizard"....hmmmm...That seems to be all I can think of at the moment. I must admit though that I have had some funny looks but those seem to be from older people; most young staff members don't say anything or ask what the author is like, and yes I plug Misty a lot!. Re the talk about being Chosen, I don't think that someone would be Chosen who is 'un-Herald' like, and I also think that someone wouldn't be Chosen unless they had some 'talent'. However, with the Monarch being a Herald, and Herald being on the Council there would be room for people who may not have talent but have Herald-like qualitites; people seem to gravitate towards things. What does anyone else think?. I mean look at Karal. He would make at great Herald, but he had other things to do and talents that woudl be better served elsewhere. I want to join!!!!! I was actually going to suggest such a thing a while ago, but - oops, I was a bit slow on the draw, as usual! Anyway, yes, I DEFINITELY want to become a member! When I first started reading WoFate, I was generally really annoyed with her. But then I had this nifty dream about her, and after that I always liked her and could understand and sympathize with her. Weird, huh? As for names, I personally like Royal Defenders of the Brat. About the scene with Elspeth and An'desha: Yes, I liked that scene. It showed that Elspeth isn't at all the Brat anymore like some people (Velgarthians and Earthlings alike!) are inclined to think. It seems like she had mellowed out a bit by the time of the Storms trilogy. It probably helped a lot that by that time she was free from the prospect of a lifetime of performing a job she didn't like.
