(say something involving self-deception?) IMHO maybe you'd ahve to say "i don't know" because the truth spell forces you to say the truth and in this case the truth for you is that you can't figure out your opinion. A question of my own: Talia always seems to know what people are feeling, but presumably if they have mind-magic they could put up a shield to keep her totally out. Does that mean that if people had really good control over their minds they'd be able to have fake emotions floating around for Talia to read? I did think that they'd said specifically, that the Herald/Companion bond helped the Gifts to develop in the first place. (say something involving self-deception?) I don't think that the Truth Spell could be put on yourself. Remember that the person who has the Truth Spell on cannot see the vrondi (blue ring) and so I don't think it would work if you did it on yourself, and how could you ask yourself questions?. As for asking emotive questions, wouldn't that depend on whether the person involved had an exavt answer to the question. I seem to remember Elcarth being unable to temporise, he either said yes, no or don't know, and sometime emotions aren't black or white, adn can change quickly. What does everyone else think?. RE Elspeth, well maybe she was very sharp tongued, but then Tarma and Kerowyn weren't know for their honey tongues, and since Kerowyn had a lot to do with Elspeth in teaching her how to fight and defend herself, maybe some of her bluntness rubbed off. Also, she has a softer side, just see how she handled Andesha (sp?). Well, something to think about. Also, I add my voice to those who want to know how to join the Order of Amber and Marigold. BTW, how did the name come about?. I think that Misty was speaking about those > people who lose touch with reality. Who go beyond the enjoyment and > begin to think that they are elsewhere. I thought that the Dreaming was more along the lines of total ... seperation? from one's surroundings. Like living your life through a daydream. You are too out of it to feel emotions besides the ones that give you pleasure and you'd live in a sort of haze where nothing affects you or makes you think. Like being constantly high, or drunk, I guess. That's just my little interpretation, although I do agree that it's another Misty moral. On the Truth Spell: No, I don't think that it could be used to determine your own feelings on an issue, even if you had a friend cast it on you. Often if you don't have an opinion then you can't voice it. Chris the Super-Wookie wrote: > Does that mean that if people had really good control over their minds > they'd be able to have fake emotions floating around for Talia to read? I think so. Like, when you're acting you manipulate your own state of mind because you're so concintrated so that you feel the emotions that you want to project to your audience. I'd also bet that Talia would have a hard time reading someone who is ... dang, I can't remember the religion - there's one out there that preaches inner peace to the extent that you don't feel anything but calm anymore ... just can't remember it right now. Hey, it's after midnight. Give me a break. Anyhoo, I think I'm gonna go do some writing and then I'm going to go to bed. *sighs* Blah. Oh, and heya Sorana & Kristy! Yes, I'm still alive! Does anyone know what happened to that? ------ The book (I don't know if it will be a series) is called Brightly Burning. It's not out yet...I guess it's coming soon. I've seen the name in the list of her novels inside some of her books, but it's listed as a "forthcoming novel." Ambermoon wrote: >I have a long-standing question about Truth Spell. Truth Spell >seems to always be used for the mind, what if applied to emotions? >(say something involving self-deception?) ---------- If someone put a Truth Spell on you, and you honestly didn't know your opinion about something, I think you would have to respond "I don't know." Perhaps, if the right questions were asked, it could help you sort out your feelings, and you could figure out the answer. Now, if it's self-deception, then I think the Truth Spell would bring out the real answer, because if you're decieving yourself, that means that somewhere deep inside, you do know the truth, and the Truth Spell would force you to speak it. Chris wrote: >Talia always seems to know what people are feeling, but presumably >if they have mind-magic they could put up a shield to keep her >totally out. Does that mean that if people had really good control >over their minds they'd be able to have fake emotions floating around >for Talia to read? -------- I think they could. It would be kind of like a mage layering glamours on something. (Like in WoFate when Elspeth & Co. were travelling to Hardon, they made the Companions look like mis-treated, worn beasts with a glamour on them to make them look (to the naked eye) like nice horses. That way a mage would see a horse, and if he looked below the glamour, he would see a worn horse, but he wouldn't think to look below that to find a Companion!) I supposed a person with mind magic as strong as Talia's (or stronger) would be able to shield & create false emotions, but he would have to be a wonderful actor too because much of our emotions can be read in body language. (sp?) I haven't read any romance (tried to once, and it bored me to death!), but my roommate reads it all the time. (We tease each other all the time about the "trash" we read!) I want her to read LHM. I think that that trilogy has the greatest amount to plot- relavent romance out of all of them. I'm just really greatful that Misty keeps the romance sceens in her novels clean. I really like it when the author hints at what the characters do "behind closed doors," but I'd really rather not have it described to me in explicit detail! (That's why I don't read the "trashy" romance. Perhaps, one day I'll try some of the "cleaner" novels.) Anyways, I'm rambling again! *L* Kristy wrote: >Hey, does anybody have the lyrics to HANDS by Jewel? That's one of my >favourite songs, and I need it for a future story. ------ I have the lyrics.
