Having my bottom scorched once was enough for me!), but I just wanted to remind you that some of are Listsibs are as young as 13, maybe even 12, and there are other young teens, so some people on this list are probably still virgins. In short, not all of us are guilty of such a thing. Herald Katherine later wrote (yes, I'm behind. midterms coming): <> Hmmm... well, I figure that most people are probably too happy to see kids my age actually reading something (and so many books, of such impressive length! *LOL* I go all out when I book-shop) to comment on what it is. Even if I were to buy that "500 Ways Star Trek Can Teach You To Lead A Better Life" book in the New Age section, I doubt I'd get funny looks. It seems to me that a lot of people around here read fantasy, or at least don't think reading it is abnormal. I rarely get funny looks when I sit in the aisle (don't worry, they're made esp. wide with the habits of nuts like me in mind) to seriously peruse a bottom shelf. It's only when I walk with books balanced on my head.... But I must admit that, even if I were getting dirty looks from other shoppers, I'm no longer self-conscious enough to care. If challenged about the supposed trashiness of my selections, I have about 20 arguements filed away in my brain which, while they will likely not change the person's mind or attitude, will at least get him or her to leave ~me~ alone, and possibly avoid mentioning it to someone else for a while. ^_~ This is, of course, my goal. Try not to let it bother you, Katherine. You know what they're missing, and at least you have the pleasure of reading what you enjoy. Dawnfire (Gatecrasher) wrote: <> Yatta!!! *jumping for joy* Wai! My best friend has become an expert listener. People with whom I spend any significant amount of time (enough to know their name, for instance) quickly learn that you don't ask what the book I'm reading is about unless you ~really~ want to know. Okay, so I do occasionally remember to ask if someone minds hearing the plot details before I launch into bookbabble-mode. =) I have a pal who does the same thing (only more so, if possible), and I'd hate to be the person sitting at our able when we start discussing something we've both read. >=) Ambermoon wrote: <> *low whistle* You are observant. The Velgarth books are all books set on the world Velgarth, which means all the Herald books plus some others. The trilogies, in no particular order: Heralds of Valdemar (Arrows, for short)(Arrows of the Queen, Arrow's Flight, Arrow's Fall) The Last Herald-Mage (abbrev. LHM) (Magic's Pawn, Magic's Promise, Magic's Price) Vows & Honor (Oathbound, Oathbreakers, Oathblood) By The Sword (stand-alone, kinda) Mage Winds (Winds of Fate, Winds of Change, Winds of Fury) Mage Storms (Storm Warning, Storm Rising, Storm Breaking) Mage Wars (Black Gryphon, White Gryphon, Silver Gryphon) All those weird Owl books I haven't read yet (I think it's currently Owlflight and Owlsight) These are, very roughly, in the order in which they were written. A chronological order in terms of when the stories happen would go: Wars-LHM-V&H-Arrows-BtS-Winds-Storms-Owl stuff. But the first Arrows book is a pretty comprehensive intro to Valdemar (the kingdom where most of it happens), so it might be a good first read. (Warning: it's one of Misty's first novels, and IMHO, it shows -- but it still doesn't suck.) The really appalling bit is that I own most of these. Yikes. To think of the amount of money I'd still have if I didn't read Misty.... because actually, I'd never have join this list, and never have started reading & buying numerous other authors....
