The Queen's lifebonded doesn't necessarily have to rule. Selenay's disastrous first hubby wasn't Chosen [although that was what caused the trouble - he wanted to be co-consort and wouldn't take no for an answer, so maybe the Companions thought it might be good to avoid that sort of problem]. Plus, she wouldn't necessarily have to marry him - remember in LHM Shavri kept refusing to marry Randale b/c she didn't want to be queen. >Also, somewhere in BY THE SWORD, Daren is traveling with one of = >Kero's mages, when the mage discovers that Daren has earthpriestess = >blood in him Does anyone know if that counts as a gift? Probably not, although it might indicate latent psychic potential for a herald-type gift. I forget what Daren's gift was - someone help me out? You do ahve to be gifted to be Chosen, i think, but it diesn't ahve to be very strong, and you might not show signs of it before being chosen because the Companion-bond tends to strengthen and awaken latent gifts. Delurking for a minute from a newbie if you all will forgive... This has been referred to several times, kind of vaguely, but can anyone actually tell me why Di Tregarde is no more? Someone was kind enough to give an address that was supposed to fill me in, but I only found a reference to some contract entanglements and that Andre the Vampire would be appearing in a book about WWII. But on another list (my lists are getting more entangled than Misty's contract!), there was some reference to a stalker? I'm a bit confused, and also sad - although I'm currently reading the Mage, et al, series (how DO you pluralize series?), I loved Di - she reminds me of another heroine in another group of books, and would like to see more of her. First of all, the text that I am referring to is located a http://www.firebirdarts.com/firebin/shop/cashcart.cgi?ACTION=thispage&thispa ge=1mlstraw.htm&ORDER_ID=143656729 For those of you who have not read Misty's "Last Straw" - it explains why she will no longer write Di Tregarde. In a nutshell, they didn't sell well enough to keep the series going. I believe that the phrase was "If every hardcore Diana Tregarde fan bought fifty copies of each book, I could afford to maybe buy a new VCR with the royalties." So that's the relevant answer to your question. What makes the text such a legend at this point is that she goes on to describe in rather pointed detail what kind of mail/responses she has received about that particular series. It's rather alarming what lengths people will go to or what they believe is actually true. First of all, I want to say thankyou to Ambermoon and Sorana for sending the lyrics of Hands, and for those of you that have offered. Thankyou so much! BTW, did it come from her CD "Spirit". (I'm rather new to her stuff). Oh, yeah. Does anybody here listen to Captain Tractor? (They're cool. And they're Edmentonian, Canadians! Bonus!) 'cause I really want these lyrics to their version of GhostRiders In The Sky. I was so mad when their CD didn't have the lyrics to them! The same thing goes for Last Saskatchewan Pirates (hilarious song). And if anybody is looking for a StarTrek fan , I'm one! Who'd have thought, huh? Favourite show is Deep Space Nine (the worst character in their is Worf) and it's ending in seven weeks! Wah! Why me! Why can't it be VOYAGER? (I honestly do NOT like that show!) But I think I'd better shut up about, or else I might be chased around the list by people carrying torches (or in our case, flaming sheep). ANYWAY on to my OB Misty. It's not going to be much. I honestly haven't read anything by her for AGES. And I've noticed something. Did you guys ever notice that she uses the SAME plot over and over again in ALL of her Velgarth series? What I mean is first theirs the main character whom nobody likes very much, then they find a place where they're accpeted, then they're the key to whatever is stopping whatever evil invading army is threatening Valdemar, and then they vanquish the enemy and there's a happy ending at the end of the story. I don't know about you guys, but I wouldn't mind if it were a little more diverse. I mean, instead of invading armies, why not some political turmoil? Or a plague? (Granted, a plague isn't the most original thing, but still!) Oho, I think I see some flaming sheep, so I'll leave y'all with that last thought. Bye! OK, Megwyn mentioned that Adrian Paul from "Highlander" could play Darkwind maybe? Yes, definetely, but he would _probably_ have to lose the accent. The List doesn't need to hear about them!: "Okay, everyone, sorry," she grumbles.* And Orelalaith talked about Di's altered jeans. I agree, but I never would have thought about it until you mentioned it. A friend of mine had some, but noone ever said anything about them. Also mentioned (by Orelalaith) was the fact that Misty ties in her books to each other. I LOVE that! Di's mentioned in Tannim's book, as well as the elves that had a Dreaming problem in California (the KoGaS books). Tannim is in Di's book. She also has this wonderful habit of putting references to music in her books, too. I almost choked laughing when, in "Chrome Circle", she had Tannim driving the UnSeleigh Elves insane with the songs from They Might Be Giants! If noone out there has listened to them, I suggest you give them a shot. They're total nonsense, but very infectious. She also mentioned that harmonizing with Midnight Oil was very difficult in the beginning of "Born To Run". She's right, but I still love them. Well after careful consideration I have come to the conclusion (IMHO) that Kero's Companion, Sayvil, is Savil. Here are my reasons: 1: Of course the name. 2: Sayvil (the Companion) doesn't like heights, and I /think/ Savil did as well. 3: Sayvil seems to know things about magic and readily admits to it (unlike the rest of the Companions) 4: They are both highly stubborn (which is nesseccary when dealing with Kero) 5: Sayvil will Mindspeak with anyone she chooses. Sounds like the old Savil to me. On another similar topic. I don't think Skif is the reincarnation to Stephen. Skif and Stef wouldn't have been able to have that nice conversation in the Forest of Sorrows if this was the case. It being the spirit that gets reincarnated, so to speak. If Skif is the reincarnation of anyone, perhaps it is Medren, Stef's best freind when he was alive, it would explain the reason why Skif felt some kind of kindrance with Stef. Still trying to come up with a use name, but until then.. -T ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 06 Apr 1999 17:56:07 -0400 From: Jessica Boyette To: "mercedes-lackey-+AT+-herald.co.uk" Subject: ICQ (and S&S) Message-ID: <370A82F7.68055A34-+AT+-worldnet.att.net> Heyla!
