I found the reference to The Last Straw and read it with horror. What I found in the firebird site was insight into the author that I have been immersed in for months (when I find an author that I like, I tend to run out and buy all the books I can, imagine how I felt when I found out how prolific this one was!) In reading Misty's open letter, I found that not only did I love her books, but I like her! I'll enjoy her books even more than before, knowing that I can respect the woman behind the fantasy, someone with compassion and a healthy dose of reality and sense. Thanks for answering my question and more. Back to lurking now... _________________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? OH, I do. I really have no problems with the romance in books. Most of the ones I listed (if not all) are on my list of favorite books. (Especially "A College of Magics"!) I was just trying to make people think about this reputation that Romances have; and how for a bunch of them it's undeserved! Since I wrote that list, I realized I forgot two books. Both of which are Misty books. >I haven't read any romance (tried to once, and it bored me to >death!), but my roommate reads it all the time. My Grandma would like her for that. If I could get her past the fact that there's magic in the books anyway. (My Grandma doesn't like magic, she says it's all trickery. She's thinking of the Magicians on TV of course, but I _cannot_ get her to see the difference between that and what I consider real magic. I even refered to LHM! Too bad she hadn't read it... (That was one of three arguements I had with her last time we visited. There was also one on the exsistence of Unicorns; with me FOR! ))If I could find another copy of "A College of Magics" I might be able to get her into Fantasy that way, but she'd have to actually _read_ the book after I gave it to her. hee hee. I think half of what makes romance..romance is the courtship part or the chase part that Misty puts in her books. I like that she hints at "behind closed doors". I rather not read about "manly weapons" or "womanly coves of whatever". If I wanted that, I'd go find a "bodice ripper" about a heros and helpless women.
