This is my last message to you for RL (TM) has finally got its ugly hands on me. I took up a new job which is lots of fun but leaves me little time for all the things I love to do. Therefore I have to cut back on some of them. This mailing list is one of the things I have been unable to attend to for some time now. So I decided to unsub. Maybe if life settles down a bit (i.e. if routine takes over) I will be able to re-sub and enjoy your company again. So, good-bye to all the friends I made on this list, thank you for all the interesting discussions we had, for the insights and opinions you gave me, for all your love and compassion. Merry met, merry part, merry meet again Shantaya Autumnleaf and Torell, the Jester :-( ***** Suddenly the Sprinkler System in the Hall of MISTS is turned on and showers the gathered listsibs with mousse au chocolate and vanilla ice-cream. The faint tinkling of little bells and Torells soft laughter accompany it. Then the sprinkler is off, and all that lingers are some strands of red hair, a little bell and, on the head of every listsibs, a bright red sheep-shaped cherry. ***** ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 16 Apr 1999 11:21:31 -0400 From: "Tanya Evans" To: Subject: Re: 'bout Misty Message-ID: <000b01be881c$ce582ea0$23040618-+AT+-baycty1.mi.home.com> Derrick O asked. > To put it in more physical terms would you want some stranger going into > your house and cleaning it without your permission? Obviously you have never seen my house (its quite large)... I pray daily that someone wili come in and clean it up for me, stranger or no, just so I don't have to do it. But that's beside the point. => >From what I hear and understand copyright's are only in effect for 20 years or so. Which explains why all those famous singers/bands can redo disco & classic rock music without legal repurcussins. That's my take. Message-ID: <01BE882B.D072AC60-+AT+-CLARB.clark.net> Heyla all Listsibs, Just thought I would say this real quick before I leave for the weekend.... **Stormlight presents Official Certificates of Sorriness with much flourish, and ~dah, dah, dah, de-dah~ a drum roll to all currently awake (and even those sleeping) Councillors of the Mist for dropping a one-liner on the otherwise overworked group of leaders. Stormlight also presents in a silver, silk lined carrying case, one crystal sheep to each Councillor with the appropriate name beautifully engraved on the side. She also presents to Cennydd a gold foil covered package of sheep shaped Thin Mint Girl Scout cookies as a grateful thank-you for not flaming her yet for her horrible grammar and atrocious phrasing.** Thank you, thank you, thank you, thank....oh, okay, I'll get to the point. If this has popped up before, then please forgive (I've more Thin Mints!!)...has anyone checked out Barlowe's Guide to Fantasy? There is a rendering of Kerowyn in it. She's also on the cover. It's a pretty good drawing, although not quite my picture of her. I also don't know if Misty has authorized it, but given her watchfulness over that sort of thing (I won't go there), I'm sure she has. Also, I'd like to start the Darkover novels by MZB...which would be a good one to start with?? I think it was brought up earlier, but I....no, my stapler...yeah, my stapler deleted it. It's jealous, you know *wink*. Anyway, y'all have a nice weekend........Stormlight ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 16 Apr 1999 17:42:45 -0400 From: "Herald  Sa" To: mercedes-lackey-+AT+-herald.co.uk Subject: "Newbie" Message-ID: <199904161436155-+AT+-sa.Heralds.zzn.com> Heylas!     Greetingz one and all, i am Herald Carissa, Sa for short, and new to this list. I would dare venture a question.... In By the Sword, in the end, Kerowyn was chosen by Sayvel. Is it just me, or did anyone else notice that the name of Kero's companion was changed to Sayvil in Winds of Fate? Or am i just weird? Message-ID: <19990417051215.64682.qmail-+AT+-hotmail.com> Heyla, Sorry everyone, that annoying thing called the real world intruded and stole me away for a time. I have stolen this brief bit, but then it will drag me back. But for the moment, I happily snag a soapbox (I think I may need it). First off, Mindspeech. You don't have to be Gifted to hear a Companion. Yfandes says, "I can Bespeak anyone I choose to, it's one of the abilities Companions try not to use if there's any way around it." (p. 298, MPrice, pb) So it's all of them, not just the Grove-born. Therefore the bit with Talia and Rolan doesn't make a lot of sense; I've always regarded it as that when Misty wrote the Arrows trilogy she didn't have a lot of it planned out yet and so there are a lot of mistakes there. Same thing goes for Hulda using magic in AotQ. Okay, Elspeth group. It's called Royal Defenders of the Brat, and I am the coordinator (b/c it was my idea and I was silly enough to add it to my ever-growing list of things to do). So if you want to join, contact me at Ambermoon00-+AT+-hotmail.com, with an email address I can send stuff to. I apologize to everyone in the group for my prolonged absence; hopefully I'll be able to get back to the list again soon. L.J. (Wouldn't be the first >time.) I've had this theory for a while that all art comes from someplace outside us, and artists are people to whom some part of it comes and then they show it to the rest of us. We couldn't see it without their vision, so we thank them, but it's not exclusively theirs. It goes through them, and is certainly tempered by who they are, but once it's out there it does not have to be interpreted solely how the artist meant it. I have views on Velgarth that seem to differ from Misty's view of it, but I don't think I have to change my view simply because it's her work. So I don't know if I like her as a person, in my view that is separate from her work. I think understanding the person will let you understand the work, because it will give you a better sense of where it's coming from, but it's not necessary. On music, which was mentioned, I know almost nothing about the artists whose music I love. It's their music I'm interested in, not them. Same for writing. I write some things, and if they were ever published I would not expect people to see them the same way I do. If they went totally counter to what I had meant, I might mention this fact, and I would not want them using pre-existing characters. I think there's a Pern rpg which has set rules written by Anne McCaffrey, that people in it obey. I believe at one point she says, "It's my world." I have no problem with that. I would like it if Misty would set up something similar, but unfortunately there seems precious little chance of that happening. well, that was a bit long. sorry, all. disappearing once more into the mists of forced lurkdom . . . . -Ambermoon Singer of Fire Royal Defender of the Brat _______________________________________________________________ Get Free Email and Do More On The Web.
