I think it was brought up earlier, but I....no, >my stapler...yeah, my stapler deleted it. It's jealous, you know >*wink*. Darkover Landfall would probably be a good first one to read. This wasn't the first one written, but it's the first chronologically [sp?] Or The Shattered Chain, which is the first Free Amazon book [a good read for an occasional raving feminist like myself] Or Rediscovery, which was coauthored by Misty - usually i think having Misty coauthor is really good coz she improves writing and characterization [i'm thinking of Anne McCaffrey and the Ship books here - normally i don't like Anne McCaffrey that much [i read her anyway when i'm bored] but the Ship Who Searched is really good, being part-Misty] but Marion Zimmer Bradly is a pretty good writer anyway. Anyway, to get back to the subject, or in [translated ]French "Let us return to our sheep" [yes they really do say that! i've been waiting for a chance to get that into a post for ages! so that's the obsheep for today ] A lot of the books have a nice, substantial list of books and the way they fit into the history of Darkover, so with a decent starting point you're away laughing. Obmisty, is Mindhearing the same as Thoughtsensing? Just re-re-re-read BtS and I noticed that Kero's MindGifts are described as both. Zha'hai'allav'a [as i said, i just read BtS and now i'm moving on to the Oaths series, so a bit of Shin'a'in is fitting] Shadowlight ______________________________________________________ Get Your Private, Free Email at http://www.hotmail.com ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 17 Apr 1999 23:06:48 PDT From: "Sorana Stargem" To: mercedes-lackey-+AT+-herald.co.uk Subject: Re: Assorted mirthful rambling... Must have had something to do with the fact that you remembered part of the title. Gives you an edge, you know? :) I'll probably have to go all the way down to the library in Vancouver, Wa. to look up the title of this book I'd _really_ like to get....There's two books actually...~sigh~ L.J. Or does >my brain work strangely? (Wouldn't be the first time.) Well, I agree with you. I see a big difference between these things too. Just because you like what someone has to say in their book, or like their chars or whatever doen't mean that you'll like them as a person. You don't really _know_ what _their_ personality is like. It'd be like assuming that just because an actor or actress plays a char that like and gives you the physical image of that char, they're exactly like that char. And as for musicians, I usually don't know the names of the people in the groups or what what they look like, or both. It doesn't really matter to me anyway. And I probably wouldn't put a poster up of an actor/actress or singer even if I did like their work enough to put a name to the face (or vice versa). Actually, I know I wouldn't because I _have_ bothered once or twice and I don't have any posters up yet. I prefer Unicorns too. On what Gifts I would have in Valdemar if could choose them...Definately Mindspeech. And...I've always thought that it would be kind of fun to have Mage-gift or Firestarting, but I don't know..... (Waiting for the groans to stop!) Not much, so you're let off easy. I'm not going to talk much about the whole legality thing that's popped up lately here on the MLML. A lot of other people have said quite a bit already. I just don't know why some people are getting offended at what other people are saying. Remember, "There is no one true way." We can't change anything, so why get all hot and bothered about it? It's Misty's property, so she can do whatever she wants, regardless of what we think. Enough on that. I'm glad to see I'm not the only They Might Be Giants fan out there! Someone (and I forgot who!) asked what we'd like as a Gift in Valdemar if we could have one.....That's hard.....I'd have to say MindSpeech. You could share so much with other people. After that I'd have to say Empathy. Again, you could share that gift with others. Um....other than that....I don't have much else. Oh yeah, someone asked if we'd like to have Elvensteeds. Silly question! *g* Of course I'd love to have a car that looks different everytime, doesn't break down on you, and actually has some intelligence! Anywho, I guess that's all!
