'Fandes and possibly more info than some want to know Message-ID: Rember when Van died the first time and the "Shadowlover" gave him a choice to stay dead or to go back and live a life of loneliness and watching his friends die. Van decided to go back and live some more so he could help Valdemar. Well, considering the fact that some Heralds are given choices when they die maybe 'Fandes was once a Herald and was given a choice as well. Jays was allowed to see Van before he went on to the havens. Savil obviously chose to be a companion. Vanyel chose (the second time) to stay in the Sorrows as long as Stef was allowed as well. Remember, Vanyel was not told HOW he would die, just that it would be a lonely life and a painful death. Maybe 'Fandes was told that she would die with her Chosen and it would be a hard and painful death, but wasn't told exactly what was going to happen. She wasn't told the 'what', 'where', 'when' or 'why' of the situation, just a general 'how'. This is just speculation, but I think it makes sense. I also like te suggestions that it could have been because of Van's dreams. And we all know that Companions know more than they let their Chosen know. Perhaps she knew everything, but being a Spirit horse for the Goddess meant that she could not change fate. Comments welcomed! I'd like to know what you all think. Just before I get into the really depressing stuff, I'd like to make one correction. When I meant "I wrote down the webpage" it made a typo. It's supposed to be address. Sorry! Anyways, about the Denver tragedy. I heard that last night, and did it ever disturb me. I mean, this is the type of stuff that's supposed to happen in the MOIVES! Those three people were sick, twisted, and need some serious mental help. How could they just waltz into a SCHOOL and shoot anybody who was wearing white (I heard that on the news), boming the building AND the people, and for no apparent reason other than what was in their sick, and twisted little minds? You know, sometimes I just hate the human race . . . I'm sorry if I offended anybody with that last sentence, but sometimes I can't help feeling that way. Well, try something more cheerful. Here's my OB Misty for the day. My pen-pal from Queen's Own, and I both agree about the new Owlsflight series. We think that it wasn't the type written for adults, but more for a younger generation. Given what other people have had to say about my opinion of Knight of Ghosts and Shadows, I have come to the conclusion that I have absolutely atrocious taste in Mercedes books. *grin* > > << On a more general level, since lifebonding is a soulbonding of the > perfect match for your soul, I would think that both members of a > two-member lifebond would probably be similar, so if another one with a > similar soul came along and lifebonded to one of them, it would probably > stand to reason that they would lifebond to the other person too, since > they all would share similar souls (or something like that!)>> I disagree with this. And in Winds Of Fury, so does Stef. Compatible, yes, but not similar. This can be proven by the quote on page 101, "Van thinks that it's likelier that someone qith an extremely powerful Gift of some kind and a tendency to deep depression will be lifebonded than someone who is not so burdened and hag-ridden. That's so the Gifted-and-suicidal half has someone outside of himself to keep him stable and give him external focus." Okay. That's all I have to say for now. As for there never being more than one grove-born Companio in Valdemar at once, that's not true. When King Valdemar first performed the spell/prayer that began the Companion thing, three grove-born Companions appeared, and more kept appearing until there were enough that were being born naturally that they no longer needed to, except the Monarch's Own Companion. And after that, from what I remember, a grove-born Companion appears when it is needed - like for the first new Herald-Mage or something like that. There've probably been others, and hopefully Misty will write about them in the future. Thanks to everyone who corrected me on the life-bond thing - that was more or less what I was trying to say, but I just finished finals and my brain is fried, so nothing seems to be coming out of my head correctly lately. As for the last Owl book, sorry, it's not out yet. I don't think it'll be out for at least a few more months, unfortunately. Ahhh! Sometimes I just wish authors were able to write a book-a-day (okay, I guess one per month or so would be okay) and still be able to keep up the quality. I get so frustrated waiting for the next book in whichever series I'm currently reading to come out!!!!! Here's a couple of questions for everyone. First of all, how do Companions decide who Chooses each new Herald-to-be? Is it a totally random choice, whichever Companion is next age-wise or something (although I doubt that, using 'Fandes as an example of having not Chosen till after 10 years), or is it sort of like a life-bond (although very loosely) in which each Companion just KNOWS that they are supposed to Choose that particular person? I guess that wouldn't work either, since it mentions in the Winds books that the Companions were almost fighting over who would get to Choose the royal twins. Anyone have any suggestions? As for the other question. Well, I guess it's actually more of an observation. I was re-reading AotQ a couple months ago. At the beginning, when they're all at that Herald Revelry after Elspeth is officially designated as the Heir, when Talia, Dirk, and Kris first get to the party, there is a herald telling a story for his share of the entertainment. He is described as having twin white streaks of hair coming out of each temple. Is it just me, or does that sound like Eldan to anyone? I wonder if it was intentional or not? Okay, enough rambling for now. Zhai'helleva! Songrunner ___________________________________________________________________ You don't need to buy Internet access to use free Internet e-mail. The "modern" Kale'dain from White Gryphon are still called Kale'dain because they didn't split after the war. The Kale'dain existed before the Mage Wars - they just more or less flocked to Urtho's banner when the war started, and then ended up getting scattered when Urtho and Ma'ar were killed.
