FX (or Foxtrot Xray) is one, Altra is one, and Lissa is the last. Some people might say that Altra had a bit of exposure, but we never really found out anything about him, other than the fact that he was a Son of the Sun a very long time ago. I wish I could read about what Karse was like when he was human. Someone else mentioned Lissa; I agree. I'd like to hear some of her stories. She has such a strong personality, she must have had some great times. I also love FX. He's so strange and spontaneous and funny! Actually, I think that the only reason he got the high ransom thing was because the information he had to bring back to Valdemar was extremely important. Other than that, I don't think he was anything special - just one of the many children of a minor noble (if I'm remembering that right) and "just another Herald" (if that phrase would actually apply to *any* Herald!). Besides, I'm almost certain that Selenay would pay any ransom (within some sort of limit, I'm sure) to get a Herald back safely, rather than another Herald getting killed. Think of how upset she is every time the Death Bell tolls. As for minor characters, I'd love to hear more about King Valdemar and company, Sunsinger and Shadowdancer, Windrider, and Lavan Firestorm. (sorry - I love the legendary-type persons) And whoever mentioned that Owlflight/sight was great, despite negative comments about it, I personally loved it, and the Storm books. Of course, I love just about anything that manages to keep my interest, and I'm generally highly easy to entertain. But I still think they were all wonderful! I actually like Darian a lot - I guess partially because I identify with his wish to just fade into the forest and not have to deal with all those idiots (sorry - my dream is to be a hermit(ess) and not have to deal with all the modern-day idiots that I seem to be facing all the time). Of course, I also identified with Keisha...and just about every other character I've ever read. Has anyone else notices that almost all characters seem to share at least one or two minor (or major) similarities to you? I think that's what probably keeps me interesting the most in Misty's books. Something on the list lately has been troubling me a bit. Everytime Taleydras are mentioned, they seem to have acheived near-perfectness, or something like that. Now, I personally love them to death, but I think everyone needs to remember that they are human too - Darkwind (I think) mentioned that the Taleydras also have their share of troublemakers, etc., only that it is a bit more rare. And did anyone else get annoyed at certain members of (possible short Owlflight SPOILER) Darian's adopted clan when it was mentioned that a small group still didn't think that the Kaled'ain should be allowed into the clans and that they should all remain as closed-off as they were before the Mage Storms? And all that grumbling despite the fact that it was their Goddess that caused the "reunion" to happen in the first place. I was a bit incensed, especially considering that they are so close to their Goddess, but I was glad that many more were perfectly happy to have their long-lost clansmen return. END SPOILER Anyway. I just wanted to remind everyone that the Taleydras are human too, despite their exotic-ness, and they are just as easily lovable or unlikable as anyone else. Okay, enough rambling for today. If it's not blasphemy, I'd like to see, perhaps, maybe (if I don't get shot for this) someone else write about one of the further realms - it might be intriguing to have a slightly familiar setting with a different type of story....just a random idea, please no flames .... **wonders if she can find an asbestos suite in a hurry** about misty: okay, i think since i've been on this list we've talked about movies, magic, homosexuality, fiction vs nonfiction (the great literature debate), what gifts you would have, what would you do if you didn't have any gifts, a smattering of posts on religion, a few on how nicely ML handles sex scenes (in that she nicely leaves much to our imagination) ... but I don't recall politics....is this too hot to bring up? Do you think ML in her books (particularly her velgarth, but I don't want to be exclusive here...) advocates a regency? what about rethwellan (sp?) and Karse? it seems as though moral or religious beliefs (when "true" religious beliefs) are used as a system of checks and balances - and the councils etc don't have much power. The clans seem to be different, but still rely on one figurehead (as I recall) ...so the evidence I can remember (alas and alck for those meandering gray cells) seems to point to a preference for a single leader rather than a cabal of some sorts...
