If I remember right Skif was a theif out of nessecity, not by choice. He was dirt poor, on his own and had very little in the way of useful skills. Stealing was the lesser of two (if not more) evils in his situation, I know I would rather steal then sell myself to leacherous men who... well I'm sure you can imagine the stuff that can happen in the hands of the sick and twisted, we have all read the books. Being Chosen pretty much was a salvation for him, probably if he had not been Chosen when he did, he might have become mentally unstable if not worse. I think I have rambled enough and pretty sure I got my point across. Including people that wouldn't normally fit the profile of a Herald. Also, Skif wasn't a thief by choice, he was an orphan that was picked up by an old woman on the streets, and she's the one who put him in the life of crime. He was an innocent til then. That may have had something to do with his being Chosen. And besides, who would have guessed that Elspeth would manage to make it to being Chosen!? People do what they have to do to survive, that does not change their hearts, It does not make them evil. Another example of the same is Kerowyn, She's a mercenary but she was choosen, because she was a good person, good people can do wrong things out of necesity. ~~EarthSong~~ ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 1 May 1999 08:44:45 -0300 From: "Nelson Greenslade" To: "Misty" Subject: from Elsa's Mom>Elsa has been ill Message-ID: <009201be93c8$03599f60$37afb3cf-+AT+-epzfbrwg> Dear Misty List, I was wondering if you all might do me a favor. My DD Ashley>Elsa to you I believe has been very ill this week. She was in hospital for 6hrs yesterday having iv therapy. She is very upset that none of her real time friends have even called to see why she was not in school.Anyways,I was wondering if you all might send her a few get well cards to cheer her up.She was to ill to even tell you that she was ill.We are hoping she will be better today. Her DF and I really believe some get wells from her friends will help cheer her up. Are you thinking of Neave? That sounds like the scene that he "sends" to Talia when they're trying to determine her gift. IIRC, it's in Winds of Change that Skif tells Wintermoon (Darkwinds brother) that his mother taught him to steal and was then killed by a rival. Other than that I agree with you. It was really the only life he knew. Basically though he was a good person. Remember in Winds of Fury when he's going through the mental termoil of wether or not to help Andesha/Falconsbane? He says it's nuts but that they have to help. Cymry then says "And that it why you were chosen" or words to that effect. -- Paige GO LEAFS!!! proud to be Outlandish When you are finally holding all the cards, why does everyone else decide to play chess. ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 29 Apr 1999 16:08:06 -0400 From: Paige To: mercedes-lackey-+AT+-herald.co.uk Subject: Re: Gods/Goddesses and Various Braid Message-ID: <3728BC26.23-+AT+-sympatico.ca> Liss wrote: > > Heyla Listsibs! > > This is going to ramble a bit and it's kinda long. *gee, I'll bet you're all > surprised!*: > > As I've mentioned before, I'm re-reading Storm Warning. Since their names are the same I'd say so ;-) My question is, why doesn't anything ever come out of that. It's not like Karal doesn't know both the names ie the Star-Eyed Kal'enel and the Consort Kalanel (I think those are the spellings). Do think Misty ever indend(s)(ed) to do anything with this? -- Paige GO LEAFS!!! proud to be Outlandish When you are finally holding all the cards, why does everyone else decide to play chess. ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 01 May 1999 14:15:28 -0600 From: ShadowDreamer To: mercedes-lackey-+AT+-herald.co.uk Subject: Werehunter Spoiler/ OOUH Message-ID: <3.0.3.32.19990501141528.006e945c-+AT+-pop.dimensional.com> Liss wrote: >POSSIBLE Spoiler Alert ("Stolen Silver" from Werehunter): > >S >P >O >I >L >E >R > >* >M >A >Y >B >E >! >* > >Did anyone else who read "Stolen Silver" happen to catch Alberich's >Companion's name? To be honest, I didn't think that Taver was Alberich's Companion's name... I was under the impression that Taver was, rather, the name of the speaker's companion. Alberich's companion *does* have a name, besides Silver (what Alberich called him in the book), here's texteved from Arrows of the Queen, pg 202, Jadus talking to Talia about Alberich's Gift and how it saved Selanay, and Talia's response: Jadus nodded; "It's hard to think of Alberich as a Herald, isn't it?" "It is," Talia confessed. "He doesn't wear Whites. I scarcely ever *see* Kantor, with or without him." Later in the same section, Jadus tells Talia of how Alberich's Companion saved him from the fire, and used the name Kantor then, too. E N D S P O I L E R Re: the OOUH.
