Why Misty? read the NewbieFest! *giggle* We're all one big happy insan....uh, family here! There are two pages that will help you with the list and help answer some of those pesky questions. The first, Mel's Rules of Thumb, are at http://www.herald.co.uk/local_info/rules_thumb.html It's a short page, and talks about the the do's and don'ts of the list The second page, the NewbieFest, will give you a little more of a feel towards the list, and help you out with things like, "What's up with the sheep?". *grin* It's located at http://www.ling.udel.edu/hyde/pers/misty/newbiefest.html If you at any time have any other questions, feel free to voice them on the list, or ask myself or one of the other Councilors (we have our titles in our signatures) privately :). "I am the right hand of vengeance, and the boot that is going to kick your sorry *** right back to Earth. I am death incarnate, and the last living thing that you are ever going to see. God sent me." That has to be my favorite episode - when I saw what Ivanova's reacting to above, I actually got chills... that never happens to me. :) Chris -- Chris Colvin knight-+AT+-sirius.com http://www.sirius.com/~knight/ "Is this incompetence or is this treason?" - overheard in the Russian Duma, 1917 ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 05 Jun 1999 11:25:55 PDT From: ambermoon starshadow To: mercedes-lackey-+AT+-herald.co.uk Subject: various threads Message-ID: <19990605182555.46279.qmail-+AT+-hotmail.com> Bright the day, just to add my $.02 . . . all the innacuracies in books made from movies annoy me to the point that I cannot watch them anymore. if I decide to see them anyway, I am not a good person to sit next to because I will glower and make outraged comments the whole way through. then I will simmer and rant whenever the opportunity presents itself. (case in point: "The Secret Garden". I'm convinced the makers of that film never even read the book. the only movies I've seen that have done justice to the books are the Jane Austen ones.) Kristy, I know just what you mean about people looking down on you for liking Star Wars/Star Trek. add to that almost never being seen without a fantasy/sci-fi book in my hands, and not watching any tv, soaps or otherwise . . . . Someone mentioned Dianna Wynne Jones, some series by her? *Ambermoon perks up and looks around excitedly* What is this? The only books I've read by her are Witch_Week, A_Tale_of_Time_City, and Eight_Days_of_Luke, and I absolutely love them. Could someone please give me a list (in order would be nice) of this other thing that was mentioned? all right, all right, I concede the point on Kero and Eldan. that last will have to count as an obmisty, since I can't think of anything else. except, give Shadowblade nominations! chocolate mousse sheep, Ambermoon Singer of Fire Royal Defender of the Brat _______________________________________________________________ Get Free Email and Do More On The Web. The x-wings are the "creations" of the Alliance (important word). and they defeated the Tie Fighters which were inferior in most ways, which were the creations of the empire. the Gryphons are the Creations of Urtho, who's alliance was the Kaled'a'in tribes, and defeated the makaar which were not as well built and were the creations of maar.... Good bad good bad etc. etc.? :~~Justyn EarthSong~~ ===WARNING: STAR WARS Technology Paragraph AHEAD=== ah yes. i see a parallel. but i also see a lot of differences. it would be more logical to use the A-wing or B-wing against the gryphons, coz they were designed by the Mon Calamari, who tended on the Organic side of design. the A/B-wings were also elegant and all that. they usually were better off than the X-wing pilots too. the X-wing is much more mechanical, and in many ways, are worse off than the TIEs. They had hyperdrive and shields, yes, but they were also less flexible, and had less in the way of speed. It's just that it's so Nice to write heroics from the X-Wing's point of view since Skywalker piloted an X-wing (before it got replaced by an E-wing that is) from what i see of the makaar, they resemble the Uglies alot more. umm Uglies are ships made up of bastardised parts in the Corellian sector. not so well-built. copied the original's functions... or at least _tried_ to copy. *sighs* Okay, okay, so maybe X-wings and gryphons _do_ have a lot in common. I think you can also say that Rebel Alliance vs Empire is a lot like Urtho's camp vs Ma'ar, but for a long time, the Empire had it better off. Urtho seemed a lot better off than the Alliance in terms of manpower. But hell, the whole nit-picking gets blown to smithereens when you see the little blackbox that was Urtho's present to Ma'ar and the two proton torps that were the Alliance's present to the Death Star... I thought of some of the same things, and was tempted to bring up the a-wing idea, But I don't know how major a thing star wars and the more technical/non-movie side is to the list.. so felt it better to stick with what was already suggested.. :) I personally am no longer a huge star wars junkie but i used to be very very addicted to it... I haven't even seen the phantom menace yet.. i'm tempted to go see it later today.. ~~Justyn EarthSong~~ In a message dated 6/6/99 5:38:01 AM Central Daylight Time, heraldtg-+AT+-mbox3.singnet.com.sg writes: << ===WARNING: STAR WARS Technology Paragraph AHEAD=== ah yes. i see a parallel. but i also see a lot of differences. it would be more logical to use the A-wing or B-wing against the gryphons, coz they were designed by the Mon Calamari, who tended on the Organic side of design. the A/B-wings were also elegant and all that. they usually were better off than the X-wing pilots too. the X-wing is much more mechanical, and in many ways, are worse off than the TIEs.
