First, When the Urtho group sets up the teleson, they have a meeting w/ Seleny and her board. (this results in a semi-fight between Firesong and some of the more stupid board emebers- yeah Firesong!) Now during this, Karal *Mindspeaks* with Altra. My question: has he *ever*- before or since- done this again? at the beginning of SB Karal said that the bond between him and ALtra and Florian had stengthened, bonding him to them more. did this include giving him the ability to Mindspeak, when before Atlre/Florian would Mindspeak to him and he would only speak back? oh, crap. i forgot my second quesiotn. well, ill post it later when i think of it *so sorry so sorry*. btw, goodbye, alianora rose, adn we'll miss u, and i remeber u and esp. ur quote, lol. I'm rereading the books, this time in the correct order and am confused about a couple of things. 1) In the first Arrows book (around page 70 in the paperback), when Talia first arrives at Haven and is speaking with the queen, at the end of the discussion she remembers everything that Rolan said when he first found her. Of course, I don't have the book in front of me, but I thought it said quite clearly that his entire speech (you know, the one that starts "At last, I've found you...." is revealed/remembered by Talia. Since it always frustrated me that Talia didn't have mindspeech with Rolan, when I read that passage, I really didn't understand. How come Rolan could make her understand words at one time and not another? The second question I have is regarding instances in the series that talk about Companions choosing (rather than Choosing) heralds in a sort of preparation for their true Companions. I think it was mentioned for a future Queen's Own, when the current Queen's Own is still alive and Companioned (is that a verb?), but I know I read about it more than once. Has there ever been an instance of this in the books? I didn't think that Floria and Karal (sorry for the name mistakes, I told you I don't have the books) are examples of this because that was a special circumstance, but maybe it was. Please forgive me if this has been talked to death previously, I'm just curious. Sporks!?! who said sporks? I love those things and lucky for me quiet a few of the restaurants around here have them. I'll gladly join the empire. The Beth Eric Kory books were mentioned again and I'm just wondering if anyone had any new information on wehn the next one will be out? I know that it was a work in progress book but I really really want to find out what happened to those three. And speaking of those books I always loved the sections dealing with the Renassaince Festivals. Yipee I get to go to the Colorado Ren at Larkspur. I'm going in full costume and it is going to be so much fun. Anyway I love the Ren's and my favorite performers are going to be there, The Tortuga Twins...if they only had a female member I swear they could be Eric and Kory. I don't remember who said that they would like to read more about Savil, but I agree. I would love to get a full book about her life till the point were she took Lendel on as a student. I'm sure she led a very interesting life. I would especially love to here about her life before she was chosen...her childhood with Withen and how she dealt with her family. It would also be interesting to see her as a teenager as a Hearld trainee. In the beginning of Arrows, when Talia's reading the Vanyel book, and then she tells that little story. She's daydreaming, right? The story of their meeting was originally published in Sword and Sorceress III, the third in a series of short-story anthologies edited by Marion Zimmer Bradley. That book and most of the other early books of the series are out of print. However, that story and all but one of the other Tarma and Kethry short stories published in the other S&S novels are in a newer book called Oathblood, which also contains a mini-novel never previously published. The Tarma and Kethry story *not* found in Oathblood is... oh, lemme look it up... Oh, I can't find it right now. It's called "A Dragon in Distress" IIRC, and it's NOT in S&S 1,2,3,4,5,6,11,13, or 14. I don't think it's in 15, either... I'm pretty sure it's either in 10 or 12. I'm in the process of moving, and so it's tough to find a lot of my books. This short story first appeared in one of Marion Zimmer Bradley's *Sword & Sorceress* anthologies. #3 I think. But, it has recently (April, 1998) been reprinted in *Oathblood* by ML. This book also contains other T&K short stories that have appeared in various anthologies. The last story (a novella really) is a new work about T&K. Well worth the money to buy. After Vanyel, T&K are my favorite characters. Someone else asked about the first ML book. At school I spent a lot of my money at the local used book dealers. I am an avid reader (thanks Mom) and if I had to buy everything I read I would have no money to eat. I think there's a sweatshirt out there about this. Anyway, I was looking for something to read on the long car trip to Spring Break in Florida and I found MPawn at one of the dealers. ( I realize now how lucky I was, everyone seems to think like I do: ML's books are keepers.) I read it straight through, I couldn't put it down. Luckily I am a quick reader, otherwise I would have still been reading on the beach when we got to FL. I cried, I still cry now even though I have read it over a half dozen times. When I got back, I immediately went back to see if there were more of her books. There weren't. So, I had to go to a *real* bookstore and purchase the other two in the trilogy. I also got the Vows and Honor duet and By the Sword. Pretty expensive, but well worth it. I couldn't wait to get into these books. ML is one of the few authors that I can read over and over again, still feeling the original emotional intensity and laughing out loud at the same things. I was going to comment on other things, but they have already been answered by listsibs. Alert, balloon carrying guardian sheep who will watch your back for everyone. I've become a die-hard fan of Diana Paxon since reading stories by her in S&S. Even have a couple of Autographed PB's of hers. *sparkles* To my joyous pleasure, I found out that Misty was sending stories to MZB for publication in it after I was already a die-hard Misty fan. I just love reading all the new short stories in those books, quite a change from the regular long-novel form. ^_~ Anyways . . . *tosses the instant-sheep-brownies in the microwave* <<--Ryoko-->> |||Titles: Toroki no Miko, Duo no Miko, Nataku no Miko||| |||<>|||<>||| ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 25 Jun 1999 22:23:53 -0400 (EDT) From: ladyember-+AT+-email.com To: mercedes-lackey-+AT+-herald.co.uk Subject: Re: Tarma/Kethry stories Message-ID: <9906252223531Q.19176-+AT+-www4.iname.net> Heyla all! I *just* got S&S 10 from the library today, and "A Dragon in Distress" is not in it. The story about the bad luck charm is, though. I remember reading this story - I think it might be in 8 because my library has 8. I hope this helps whoever's quest for Tarma and Kethry stories. I always wondered about some things so I thought I'd get them out there to the void that is know as a mailing list. :-) First, I never really got the whole everyone-in-Valdemar-forget-about all-real-magic. Did Vanyel do it, or the Companions, or something else? Second, why don't the Companions just fess up about what they can do? Sometimes their hiding secrets gets everyone in trouble. Also if the Heralds knew what they could do, wouldn't it be easier to keep the kingdom safe?
