Message-ID: <3774EFDB.1E830B24-+AT+-geocities.com> Well, I must confess that I *have* been lurking as of late. My e-mails just kept pileing (sp?) up, and it takes me forever to read them all. If I'm replying to anything that has already been replied to, fling something at my head to wake me up. ;) Suzi wrote: >Another question - how many of our devoted fans and followers of Misty have >leanings of the pagan/Wiccan perspective? Oooh...this could be fun....I know quite a bit about Earth-centered Religions...If you're really serious about being disenchanted with the Catholic perspective, I suggest finding a Unitarian Universalist church in your area, and going there. I think http://www.uua.org has a directory of all the churches, so you might want to check there. Did you have any specific questions? Shadowwolf wrote: >First, I never really got the whole everyone-in-Valdemar-forget-about >all-real-magic. Did Vanyel do it, or the Companions, or something else? Stefan did it, but I don't think *how* he did it was ever mentioned. That's a good question...Hmmm...how *did* he pull that off? Through music? Shadowwolf wrote: >Second, why don't the Companions just fess up about what they can do? >Sometimes their hiding secrets gets everyone in trouble. Dirk puts it rather nicely in AFall (paperback, p.213) "...Would it be fair to us, in the long run, if they stepped in like nursemaids and prevented us from falling on our noses every time we tried to learn to walk?" And read it. On the beach. While the rest of my family made sandcastles. It was well worth it. Does anyone know where you can get the S&S books other than the library? I checked Amazon.com a while ago, but I seem to remember it not being available anymore. I like buying my books, so I can reread them, and won't have to find them in a new library when I move out. She steps inside and, blushing crimson, clears her throat. "Some of you may not remember me. I've been a slave of lurkdom for many moons. I am glad to be back and I'm truly sorry for my excessive lurking." As a token of apology she gives each listsib a small sheep-shaped bottle of perfume or cologne. "It is whatever scent you want it to be and always full." With that, she throws on her favorite Tayledras lounging robe and starts catching up with all her listsibs. Warm welcome to all the newbies =0) and a special greeting to Lin'ia and Elsa if they are out there. Jadiza wrote: << ML is one of the few authors that I can read over and over again, still feeling the original emotional intensity and laughing out loud at the same things. >> I know exactly how you feel. I never lose interest in her books. People think I'm crazy, but I just have to own all of her books. It just wouldn't feel right checking them out from the library. I like to read books over and over again. POSSIBLE OWLSIGHT SPOILER: I thought I'd give my .02 about Owlsight. I don't think it was written for action. The only real action in the book was at the end. I think it was written mostly for informative purposes. The entire book was very revealing into Tayledras lifestyle and customs. I enjoyed being in a big vale. The Tayledras there were more varied with all different types of characters and professions. Also, the ratio of female to male Tayledras was more balanced. I found the book very interesting and enlightening. It can be used as good reference material for Tayledras society, especially the naming process and the creation of Vales. I especially liked hearing more about the Tervardi. Next to the Gryphons they are my favorite Tayledras-allied creature. Does anybody know where I can find out more about them? BTW, does anyone know when Owlknight will be released to the public? I just finished reading Silver Gryphon and I am curious to know, are there any books during the 1,750 years between SG and LHM? Is there nothing written about the Founding? If so, I think that is a strange place to leave off before the Founding. Tad and Blade are lost in the forest and next Valdemar has existed for 750 years? Is there no history during those 1,750 years? I would really like to hear about the refugee's escape from the Empire, and the Founding, and King Valdemar, and the first Companions and the building of Valdemar. Don't get me wrong, I liked Silver Gryphon very much, but I don't think it followed White Gryphon or set the stage for the next series like the most of the Velgarth books do. :Steps down off her soapbox: Sorry for rambling, listsibs. If there are any books about the Founding I'd love to read them. Throughout MPrice, we learned more about Bardic Collegium and B Talent than we had before. By appealing to the emotions of the people through song, you could eventually convince them that Magic was unimportant and other Talents could be used in its place. I know that this isn't the same as forgetting but it's a step. Mage Talent was a rare Gift anyway and the Vrondi probably helped by driving anyone with it out of Valdemar. It may be that the Companions helped with this also. We have seen examples of them erasing memories and even giving people false ones. Alinea wrote: << Does anyone know where you can get the S&S books other than the library?>> Try your local used book stores first. Then try stores such as Barnes & Nobles. Some of the books are no longer in print, but I have found older copies (#2 and #10) still on the shelf. (Again with that luck at finding hard-to-get books.) If you don't find them there, you might try some of the used book stores on the net. However, be aware that this could take some time and could cost more than the release price of the book, especially when you add in shipping and handling. Sheep shaped balloons for everyone.
