She spots a passing sheep and trails along after it to a more pupulated area of the Hall of Mist/Arena of Discussion and Dissention, where she waves enthusiastically to all her listsibs...and, just in case our Goddess of the Waterborn and Her loyal Avatar missed any of the newbies, pulls sheep-shaped waterballoons out of thin air above all of those recently come to the list, and with a grin, lets them fall with a big SPLOSH.:: Welcome to the MLML to everyone who's come since last time I emerged from the Shadows! If you have any questions (you know, like about the sheep thing and stuff like that), you can visit the newbiefest(http://www.ling.udel.edu/hyde/pers/misty/newbiefest.html) or ask one of the infinitely knowledgeable and kind people with 'Councilor' in their signatures.=) Oh, and before I forget-- ::hands all the sopping wet people standing around nice fluffy towels with purple sheep on them:: And remember, don't succumb to evil Lurkdom like I did!!!!! =) *~*~*~END of FLUFF~*~*~* Okay, now I should probably get on to the more important aspects of the message, or at least something Misty-related! Silverwing asked: >"If you were Shin'a'in or Tayledras, what plave would you have in >the >Clan? >(if you had a choice...)" hmm...if given unlimited choice, I /think/ I would probably be a Tayledras Healer (I don't mean Heling Adept, just a Healer) with Mage Gift...maybe a Scout, too...one can be a Healer and scout both, right? If one isn't the main healer for the Vale, I mean... The Tayledras Herbal-lore is probably really extensive and fascinating, and coupled with the magical aspects they use in the Healing, I would love to be trained as one. If I were Shin'a'in, I'd probably want to be a Shaman...Mysticism and the Ancient Mysteries, the knowledge of the Gods and Goddesses, the ability to guide and aid the Spirits of others, and the vast Wisdom...... It calls to me and holds me entranced... Someone, I'm afraid I can't recall who, mentioned that there was a new Eric, Beth, and Kory book in the process of being written. There IS????? Does anyone know anything about it at all? I LOVE Bedlam's Bard, and I want to find out what happens to them!!!!!<--Count them ~S~ ~P~ ~O~ ~I~ ~L~ ~E~ ~R~ ~(well, part of it, anyway)~ I thought it was really wonderful the way the three of them were able to remain together, rather than Beth choosing between Eric and Kory...It was really refreshing to see them break away from the traditional two-part relationship in a situation where there was no need for it and a far better alternative, rather than falling prey to the preconcieved notions that society places upon most of us. Misty is /so/ good at writing about 'untraditional' relationships in a way that erases any and all idiotic prejudices that a reader may have (even unknowingly, in some cases) had. She handles them without any of the imbecilic undertones of embarassment that most authors seem to use in similar situations which, even if they're /trying/ to open people's minds, defeat the entire purpose. But Misty doesn't do that, and I really /liked/ the way Eric/Beth/Kory love traingle turned out, personally. Of course, I absolutely /loved/ those books in many many many other ways too, but if I elaborate on that statement, this message'll NEVER come to an end!!! ~E~ ~N~ ~D~ ~ ~ ~S~ ~P~ ~O~ ~I~ ~L~ ~E~ ~R~ Suzi wrote: >Another question - how many of our devoted fans and followers of Misty have >leanings of the pagan/Wiccan perspective? I'm a Pagan, and, though I aviod calling myself Wiccan, and am actually just beginning in serious studies of Witchcraft, I agree with those who do in many important areas. I don't follow, and don't intend to follow, any specific Tradition, but take my beliefs from a variety of sources and try to figure out as much for myself as I can. I have an extreme interest in the Arts and Sciences of Witchcraft, and hope to become more well-versed and practiced in them as I progress in life. She followed with: >I was Catholic, but I have become >dienchanted with the whole "you must do X and not Y to get to heaven. So >says the men who claim to be in touch with God." I would never tell my mom, >but I think Misty had a hand in it... all that "There is no one true way" >hit me in my formative teenage years.... > I think that Misty had a certain effect on my beliefs, too (although I was never technically catholic...I /sort of/ accepted what they said when I was really young, and attended church with my family periodically, but I never really agreed with the 'one true way' part(or a great many of the other beliefs!), even as a child...Misty really enforced this, though!:))...it was, in a very real way, fantasy authors and my love of their worlds who gradually introduced me to a path of Paganism, and then when I encountered Wicca when doing a report on Magickal religions once, I had an actual place to begin in my studies, and recently have become more serious about making use of the magickal and Psychic abilities that I'd experimented with but little. Eclectic Witchcraft seems to feel very...right...for me, and I know that it was originally Misty and other authors of the fantasy genre who substantialized my conscious beliefs in magick, which led me to this Path. To tie that in with Misty a bit more--though still only vaguely, I'll admit--I recall mention of an order of Moon Priestesses in Arrows Fall...Talia was speaking with a member of one of them on her way to/in(I can't recall which) Hardorn. Do you think that they were possibly similar to Wiccans in many ways? And was there ever another mention of them in the books? (/I/ can't recall any, but my memory is far less than perfect!!!) Also, there was another question I had. I know that something similar to this has been recently discussed, but does anyone have any actual Textevd (or at least an example) of a case in which the term Shay'kreth'ashke was used to refer to a lifebonded in a relationship that was /not/ shay'a'chern? I can't think of any, so I'm not sure if it might possibly just refer to shaych lifebondings or if it really IS for all of them..... I'd /guess/ that the translation is 'shay' meaning something similar to 'alike' or 'alike oneself', which could be also be 'part', thus signifying the complementary and joined souls; 'kreth', I don't believe is used in any of the other words we're given, but it might mean 'spirit', so that it would be something like 'alike spirits' or 'spirits that are part of one another'; 'ashke', of course, mean 'beloved', so it would be 'beloved spirits that are alike', alike in the sense that would imply that they were a part of a greater whole. But 'shay' may have homosexual impications... Can anyone help? Okay, this is probably a really stupid question, but in the description of the Fairgrove pendant that the Elves wore, did it say that there was a sort of face in the branches? Because whenever I look at the picture in the firebird catalogue, I see a face between the trees... Oh, and can I be a member of Canada for World Domination? I could be the Kentucky spy... Do you accept bribes--err, I mean gifts!;)--from those who'd really really like to join to help you come to a decision? Well, I believe that I'm finally done rambling for the time being (and congratualtions in the form of mint-chocolate sheep to anyone who made it this far!!!)... I suppose I'll head back into the Shadows again for a while (if you're lucky, that is!=)). (Sorry for the large quote, but this might not make any sense without it.) When Vanyel died, he created a _very_ large legend. The people of Valdemar had already been thinking the Heralds who weren't mages were inferior to those who were. Vanyel's death actually made the situation worse. (I could quote, but I don't want to go downstairs to get the book. I'm lazy. :P) So, Stefan had to convince the people of Valdemar that the normal Heralds were just as good as the Herald-Mages. To do that, he had to convince the Bardic Circle first, and then he and the BC would convince the rest of Valdemar. What you don't find out until several books later, is that Stefan and the Bardic Circle never really managed it. So Stefan told Vanyel about it and Vanyel cast a spell to make Valdemarans 'forget' about Magic. That's about it. Stars light your path, Sorana S. Welcome back Rainwing! Not being a newbie, but returning after a prolongued abscence, can I sploosh you with half a bucket of water? I'll make it warm water. *splash!* Welcome all newbies; my there's a lot so I won't try to write all the names. Consider yourselves wet. Reanna, you took the name from the real name of Winterhart, found in Black_Gryphon when she is called that by Lady Cinnabar. Completely from memory; it's not just LHM I read incessantly. I even have an Obmisty: after Van died Stef used his music to get people to accept Heralds instead of Herald-Mages ("You don't really expect me to believe that old cliche that music can change the world?" "Usually things become cliched precisely because there's a grain of truth in them." - Stef and Van) However, they decided it wasn't enough and Van cast a spell to make people forget about magic and be unable to speak or think about it. This comes up a little in BtS and more in WoFate. *glowers at all who have been insulting Firesong and Vanyel* Firesong did not deserve to be scarred for life and Vanyel was not selfish, but it is late at night and so you shall be spared the respective rants. travel sheep (for use on airplanes) to all, Ambermoon Singer of Fire Royal Defender of the Brat _______________________________________________________________ Get Free Email and Do More On The Web. First of all, Karal was wearing pretty flamboyant robes- purple didnt seem quite like what hge would wear. plus, his hair was long, which wasnt how it was illustrated in the inside pictures. third, he was touching what looked like to me as mage-energies, which he couldnt see even though he's a Channel. maybe im nit-picking, but that was on myy mind when i firts got it. second, when is Vanyel supposed to get "selfish"? im maing my way throught mPawn andn i havent found any evidence of that. when you are aware of his situation, you realize his motives and reasons as to why he is so detached nad i dont see any arrogance at all.
