So people can call me that or Talia...I think of all the characters in Mercedes' books I can relate most to her. Except I'm not half as polite=) Either one, I don't really care. Thanks for welcoming me! I will go to the site today. I was wondering about the sheep thing....=p I was wondering if anyone here has read The Elvenbane by Andre Norton and Mercedes Lackey?? I thought it was very good. And has anyone read that book (can't remember the title) by Mercedes and Piers Anthony. I haven't read it and I was wondering if anyone would recommend it. Thanks! -Sarah-Talia-Zhaneel (whatever =D) _________________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? Message-ID: <19990704215542.6669.rocketmail-+AT+-web221.mail.yahoo.com> Heyla all, Was driving back from doing errands last night & thought of a new list topic. I don't "think" this has been discussed on-list before. The casting thread has been discussed ad infinitum--but how about a a soundtrack/background music thread? To illustrate: the scene in MPrice where Stef & Van are in the kyree caves, "The Deeper the Love" by Whitesnake. Also, the scene where Van tells Stef what his task will be, "Judgement Day" also by Whitesnake. If anyone is interested in this, I will try to compile a listing of scenes & songs that people post & will send it to anyone who emails me off-list. What do you think? Fluff: (sort of) Cennyyd (sp? My brain just blocks on your name =o), good luck on your dissertation!!!!! (<--look 5). WTTW, Lady Starlight _________________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? I would love to order some of this stuff and might for christmas. hehehe they say they take checks and know where canada is. I don't have the url right now but I did a search for Firebird Music and found them. > Hi there, > > After a painful and dreadfully jealous wait, PHANTOM MENACE IS HERE > AND I GOT TO SEE IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! > Many thanks to all the listsibs who have been very considerate and > have not breathed a word about the plot. > > I am unable to contribute much in the way of authors. I have noticed that, with some rearranging, the soundtrack to The Lost Boys fits Children of the Night quite nicely. If I can unearth a copy of the book, I can point out specifics. I made an observation in regards to the Mage Winds trilogy..but... * * S P O I L E R S P A C E * * Just in case! Now is it just me, or is Elspeth rather...umm...rude to her Companion, Gwena? I mean, she was constantly snapping and scolding at her! The only time she really showed affection was after they were playing with the gryphlets, when she absently felt sorry for her that she was alone! And take for instance Elspeth's relationship with Skif...Gwena thought they were perfect for eachother! Though Elspeth didn't have any sort of feelings for Skif other than friendship, she was rather ill-tempered with Gwena after they had their little fight. I think she was being a...well, what I call a bwitch (no, not that OTHER word...bwitch!) to Gwena in those books. So HMPH! Am I the only one that feels that way? Yes, well...other than that, does anybody know if there are going to be any other Valdemar books after Owlflight, Owlsight and Owlknight? I can't believe she can just keep going! Atleast the characters and times change. Hehe. Also, Elspeth *knew* that she and Skif weren't really right for eachother. I think taht Elspeth was maybe sometimes rude to Gwena, but they were very close- a lot of times they were just teasing eachother. And when their opinions lcashed, both Elspeth and Gwena were't meek enough to submit to the other's opinion. <other Valdemar books after Owlflight, Owlsight and Owlknight? I can't >believe she can just keep going!>> I dont' know what she'll do next, but Misty has a lot of open subjects-especially the completely open one of Iftel. as for the soundtrack, if there was one, i'd imagine it to be almost all orchestrated, except the songs of the bards, which i think would have possibly a medieval sound? this would only be for the Valdemar series, tho-i don't know that much about Di Tregarde ones. i have a question- about how long were Vanyel and 'Lendel together as a lifebonded pair? and finally, to whomever this concerns: could i please be a member of the OAM? i fell in love with Vanyel in the first book and i would love to join. There is nothing new under the sun. (10 Godiva Raspberry Cordial sheep to the person who first places the reference). In a sense, though, you're right. The soundtrack thread has been much less thoroughly discussed. I think there have only been two times that it was discussed, and they came fairly close together, so they might count as one. So, while not a completely new idea, it is definitely an under-utilized topic and one that bears further discussion. > To illustrate: the scene in MPrice where Stef & Van are in the kyree > caves, "The Deeper the Love" by Whitesnake. And this gets it off to a good start. In the previous discussion, I think that one reason it sort of died is that a lot of people assumed that the soundtrack would have to be Misty songs. Since Misty's songs were written about particular characters or events, there isn't a whole lot of discussion possible (can you imagine things like, "Let's use 'Milady's Eyes' as the romantic theme for Kero and Eldan!"?) Plus, since the people who actually have heard Misty's music is a small percentage of the total list, it meant that most people didn't feel qualified to get into the discussion. Anyway, I think it's much more interesting to discuss which songs that are not Misty-work would be good theme music. And the more interesting or original, the better. Speaking of oddly effective music choices, if anyone has seen the film "Soldier" starring Kurt Russell, there's a good example in there. The film is a fairly typical militaristic/post- apocalyptic sci-fi action film. But there is one moment in the film that changes the whole mood and feeling: a montage of "human" moments set amidst a Mad-Max-like world but with Loreena McKennitt's "Night Ride Through the Caucasus" playing. The combination of McKennitt's singing and music with the images is very effective for reorienting the viewer's perspective. The movie is no longer about violence and action, but rather becomes a story of a soldier reclaiming his humanity. Hmmmm. So, here are some suggestions from me: "No Matter What" from "Whistle Down the Wind" by Andrew Lloyd Weber (the current version that's out on disc is performed by BoyZone). This would be the perfect theme for Stefen and his relationship with Vanyel: "No matter what they call us / However they attack / No matter where they take us / We'll find our own way back!" "I can't deny what I believe / I can't be what I'm not / I know I'll love forever, / I know, no matter what." Come to think of it, another good song for Stefen and Vanyel (or possibly for 'Lendel and Vanyel) would be "Frozen" by Madonna. > Fluff: (sort of) Cennyyd (sp?
