I'm one of those people who judge books by their cover. I saw the Black Gryphon, read it, loved it, and had to read everything else by Misty! I spend most of my free time reading, working on my Queens Own stuff, and watching the clouds. In the Winds trilogy I kinda thought that Gwena was the rude one. Always telling Elspeth what to do and such, but maybe it's just me. The book by Anthony and Lackey is called If I Pay Thee Not In Gold. It was really odd, but I liked it a lot! What is everyone's favourite saying from the Valdemar books? Mine would have to be the one Skandranon says, something like-"A clean living space is the sign of a dangerously sick mind." Fluffy cloud-shaped sheep to all!!!!! ;) Shaydon Chosen by Reid _________________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? I read the trilogy for the third time just a couple of weeks ago and I really noticed it. They act as though they really love each other but they don't have to be pleasant about it. Also Elspeth seems to block Gwena out a LOT. I found both of them annoying at times... though I love the books. They are rather testy.. to say the least Gwena is grove born... I though that they and their Heralds were sort of closer to each other then even regular Heralds with their companions... Am I wrong? Well, since everyone hates really short posts I guess I should add something... At the moment I am reading the White Gryphon. I have never gotten around to reading the first trilogy before. Is it just me or did she make Ma'ar a bit easy to kill? I mean it was very good and I loved reading it but I always thought of him as being tons tougher than she made him out to be. Also, Can any one suggest any non-Valdemar books by her I should read..I've read the Fire Rose and I want to read something completely differant from what I've read so far. In subject I mean. Just to see what her other stuff is like. Thanks! Sorry this is so confused! -Talia _________________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? My only current suggestion would have to be "I've Been Here Before" as Vanyel's theme for Stefan. I don't remember the words except the phrase "And what's worse, this time, the guy -- he's twenty-two." It's sort of a "I recognize this feeling and I shouldn't be having it and, damn, but this feels familiar" vibe. I must say that I'm glad there are other people out there who put soundtracks to the books they read. (Anita Blake fans, take note: the Honeymoon in Vegas cuts of "Burning Love" and "Devil in Disguise" -- "Lord almighty, I feel my temperature rising/ Higher and higher, it's burning through to my soul./ Girl, girl, girl, girl, you gonna set me on fire/ My brain is flaming, I don't know which way to go" playing during the scene in Blue Moon when the werewolf pack is in heated pursuit of Anita, and "You look like an angel,/ Walk like an angel,/ Talk like an angel,/ But I got wise/ You're the devil in disguise" as Jean-Claude's theme.) Silverwing commented about my desire for a story w/ the ashkevrons & shin'a'in comparing notes about their respective horses ----> yes, i did read the story in oathblood, and that wasn't what i meant. what i meant (& i'm still looking for) is a story w/ ashkevrons & shin'a'in horse breeders comparing notes about how they've produced their respective breeds. what really caught my attention is the fact that the shin'a'in know about the ashkevron horses waay back in by the sword, & once they clear up the "shin'a'in stud" nonsense, they could get down to business. the way i see it is getting together at one of the shin'a'in horse fairs, ... something like that. ooo -- book recommendations! how could i forget judith tarr? arrgh!!! i found it interesting that som many other people recommended laurell k. hamilton's anita blake series, and just a few days ago, i was ranking the di tregarde / anita blake / vickie nelson books, and *sorry* --- di tregarde came out dead last, followed by vickie nelson (tanya huff's blood books) at #2, and the #1 spot on that genre goes to (drum roll, please) --- anita blake! yeah!!! (counting down to obsidian butterfly). thaat's all for now folks! ------------------------------ End of MERCEDES-LACKEY Digest 2015 **********************************
