Her Ambrai series is interesting too - again very strong women (she totally reverses the male - female role in these, women run the state and men are the domestic child rearing people) But I absolutely ADORE Patricia Kennalley Morrison (she may be under the Keannally name, she only recently added her married name, from Jim Morrison (of the Doors) to her book covers) Her stuff is a bit more science fiction than fantasy but its set in a world where the Ancient Kelts (with the people of Atlantis who settled in Ireland after the destruction of Atland - I like to think of them as what we might refer to as "Elves" - especially since they live "under the Hill") flee to space because Christianity is moving in and causing all sorts of problems for them.... So they settle in a planet called Keltia and its fabulous stories. Absolutely love them - magic, betrayal, high tech, but based on the KEltic clann lifestyle (plus the niceities of technology). I HIGHLY reccommend any of her stuff, but to get started, I recommend the Aeron triliogy - Silver Branch, Copper Crown, Throne of Scone. Its about when Earth discovers Keltia, and the Keltic Monarch (Aeron) who has to defend her empire because of the alliance. I just can't say enough about PKMorrison's stuff. Love her almost as much as Misty. OBMisty - Okay, we can all get that the forrest in SilverGryph is a rain forest (tropical maybe?) but why don't we ever hear about that type of land in the "later" books? Has it all died out, been cut down, etc...? I think the pelgar forest is more like the giant redwood forest (since not always raining or humid) but it seems we've lost a whole zone here....? -Suzi, who is writing stream of conciousness today, and apologies for the lack of clarity and spell checking! ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 6 Jul 1999 12:30:07 -0700 From: "Marv Watson" To: Subject: Re: misties Message-ID: <009201bec7e5$f4fe5760$42e930cc-+AT+-skywolf> Hello! (why do i always write that...?) Suzi wrote: >I just can't say enough about PKMorrison's stuff. Love her almost as >much >as Misty. yesyesyesyesyes! PKM ROCKS! i'd luv to see a collab. with PKM and Misty, maybe an Urban/mythical thingy kinda like BBard but with a more celtic-myth-ish emphasis? hmmm... I have a question for >you - who WAS Collan supposed to be/have been/who knows..hm? I didn't get >it, but maybe I missed it. Nope, not yet...although the last time I read the series (2-3 months ago) I started entertaining some suspicions...I'll have to go back and read 'em again...I'm sure it'll come out in the next book, she's made too big a point of not telling us, it has to figure in somehow...can't wait for it...hehehe.... >(an american who wishes she was Welsh, BTW). anyways... *L* Glad I'm not the only one! I'm told I have some small claim to Welsh ancestry in my blood...I have a welsh name, anyway...*laugh* And my girlfriend has stated that she intends to make me move there after college...I can see it now...big dumb country boy that I am...*cackle* It'll be interesting... Had a few more things to add on current threads...I would like to recommend Glen Cook's Black Company books. I finished reading The Annals of the Black Company last night, and was simply blown away by it, again...it's fascinating to read about the real nitty-gritty of a huge sorcerous war from the viewpoint of the ordinary soldiers who are fighting it...(Hm...speaking of that...anyone else out there think a velgarth book/series of books about a Plain Old Kid who joins up with the Guard could be interesting?) When is the fourth book of Glittering Stone due out, anyone know? On the soundtrack, I've got a lot of good ideas floating around, I'll try to sort them out and send 'em along yesterday. *L* Now, I' going to go muse on why I deserve a $6,000 stereo/navigation/alarm system for my truck...heheh...^_^ Super Sport sheep to everyone who has a hankering for one!.. ~Jeff Pugh Divine Knight of the Church of Laoghaire Hgusil of House Ritalin Member of the OLW Member of the "I Hate Algus" Club Chevrolet Fanatic (The 2000 Impala...*drool*) Soon to climb the Path to Pharmaceutical Success! ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 7 Jul 1999 19:30:49 +0800 From: "angie" To: "misty" Subject: Re: misties Message-ID: <008001bec86c$31a25d20$54d115a5-+AT+-default> :Do we reply with our votes to you, or go to the website? sorry for the fluff listsibs... no, address the votes to ljt-+AT+-lclark.edu LJ's in charge now... -wttw shadowblade ------------------------------ End of MERCEDES-LACKEY Digest 2016 **********************************
