Nighteagle asked: > what > books Tarma and Kethry began in?? And the author of course... *G* Tarma and Kethry are a pair of my fav chars, and their stories begin in the Sword and Sorceress compilations edited by MZB (Marion Zimmer Bradley), although I can't remember the exact numbers in which they appear. BUT! Misty has just put out a book with all the T&K stories collected, called Oathblood, although I have heard that there is one story missing. (Darn!) > Speaking of Kethry,, she was white winds, where would I find info on the > other schools of magic? There isn't really much reference to the other schools - ie Blue Mountain, etc. Kethry is Whitewinds, as is Quentin, Kethry's mage in BtS, who happened to be reccomended to her by one of her relatives - not ALL of Kethry's children became Shin'a'in. ;P But besides Whitewinds and the Tayledras, there is very little reference to magic users, except for the Empire, but I haven't read Storms in a long while, so if there is info in it, let it be pointed out by a listsib with a better memory. ;P Daine asked: > What happens if a Herald, in some circumstance, loses their Companion? > I mean, like for example, if at the end of Arrow's Fall, Tantris had > died because of that arrow wound but Kris hadn't gotten killed. What > would happen? We aren't given too much info on that in the books, but somewhere in AotQ it said that Lavan Firestorm's ('storm'? I hope that's the right ending. Fire-something.) Companion was killed with a stray arrow, and Lavan had enough sanity left to warn the rest of the Heralds and other Valdemarians to boogie on out of there before he called down a final strike at Burning Pines. TO KARA: *A hand reaches out and gently pokes Kara's shoulders, and before the poker announces her presence-* ~~~SPLOSH~~~ Welcome to the MLML Kara! We're a friendly bunch, and it's great to have new listsibs. :) If you haven't already, I'd strongly reccomend checking out the newbiefest at http://www.ling.udel.edu/hyde/pers/misty/newbiefest.html which contains oodles of useful info on stuff like braiding and sheep. *Innocently hands Kara an icy-strawberry sheep* Any questions, feel free to ask anyone with 'Councilor of Mist' in their sigs for help - we'll be glad to help out. :) Anyhoo, I think that's all, so Fare Thee Well! And she Chose *you*. If you die, she dies; she'd probably pine herself to death." (Magic's_Pawn, pb, p. 232) "It's like Companion-bond; when one partner dies, the other dies with him, usually. The only thing that kept me alive was that I bonded to Yfandes that night." (Magic's_Promise, pb, p. 251) Hence we see that Companions do not outlive their Heralds. The few exceptions implied in the quote are probably the Monarch's Own Companions. If a Herald dies, the Companion is either killed by the same thing that took out their Chosen, or quickly wills themself to death. We also see that Heralds do not outlive their Companions. The only thing that prevents death after the loss of one of those bonds (lifebond or Companion-bond) is the immediate formation of another bond. Ie. Vanyel bonding to Yfandes after losing 'Lendel; Keren bonding to Sherril after losing Ylsa. Actually, I wonder how much time Monarch's Own Companions have to find another Herald after the death of their previous one; if the Herald was killed unexpectedly and there was no one appropriate to be the next Monarch's Own, could the Companion wait a few years or would they die? I just finished the Di Tregarde books, which I enjoyed. I most sorely feel the need for a sequel, however. Damn those loonies who can't tell rl from fiction! I am leaving Fri. for four weeks, during which I shall unfortunately get very little reading done. With my luck, however, the list will get into a really interesting debate the moment I'm gone. There has been texevd.. for this, so... I got the general impression that if a companion dies, their chosen will also die, but I can't really remember if it was said anywhere. I just want to come with a mild flame, just enough to light a candle with - remember SPOILER SPACES. Not everyone has read all of Misty's work, so if you are going to tell something about a plot in a book, such as how the Last Herald-Mage trilogy ended, please warn people up front. It is greatly annoying for people to hear the ending of a book before they read it. There's a stupid amnt of blood in meats of various sorts(at least the mystery meats in our school caferteria did when we did a chem test on it...). And wouldn't a human bleeding on them mess them up too? And finally, wouldn't thier spells get messed up with just a human standing somewhere near them (we've also got a stupid amnt of iron in our blood)? * -------------------------------------------------------------------- * "Eventually we come to a point where High Science becomes indistinguishable from High Magick" -NOT misquoting A.C.
