I am new to this list, so this will be my first post. I just finished a novel by Piers Anthony called Dream a Little Dream. In this book there are creatures called "unisi" that are part unicorn and part pegasus. They, too, "mindspeak" as our friends the companions. They are intelligent and carry their riders just because it is logical to do so. They bind with one person. I was startled at the coincidence. I just think the book is a very interesting take on the whole thing, but I also wonder if he had to get some kind of permission to do it. Besides this, it was a charming, if corny at points, book. Unfortunately, when you write as many books within a specific "world", you'll eventually set down so much history and so many rules that you'll run out of new things to do! Thats why good series end... the belgariad, for instance, etc. et al. eventually she'll either change time frames again, or move on, I think. I'd love to see her jump ahead to see what it'll be like after the more "recent happenings" (ie. take place x years after owlknight ends). The only thing that's a little annoying about her books is the whole love thing... enevidibly(ok, I can't spell), there's the whole "he doesn't want me"-"she doesn't want me" thing... angst, angst, angst... ::sigh:: in fact, there's only ONE set of people who never fell in love in her series! (in the last bardic voices, forgot the name, something aqbout blackbirds...) She seems to love a good love story, and she'll write 'em any which way - we know that for a fact. It makes for good storytelling, and its a great plot carrier, which at times she will seem to rely on more heavily than others. On Thu, 29 Jul 1999, Greg McTague wrote: > ok..if misty reads these.. So there was no need for mass brainwashing. The Companions just kept the Hearlds from knowing it. That's not really brainwashing - that's keeping them from thinking about weather hearlds come back as companions. That's assuming that the Hearlds would have thought about it in the first place. The only Hearld that would notice the similarties between past Hearlds names and current Companions names would be the Hearld cronicler. Reread the first storm book - where Urthro tells the Herald about Firecats and that Companions are reincarted Hearlds. Carefully reread Karals thoughts about why the Companions don't want the Hearlds to know that they are reincarted. Sorry, I can't give you page numbers - all my books are in another state. also noticed that the Firecats? Karal's buddy, and Hansa) are similarly "Evolved." Just fewer of them I>guess. That's because Firecats are reincarnated "Sons of the Sun" and there are fewer sons of the suns then there are hearlds. There is only one sun of the son at one time - and there can't be another sun of the son until he dies. Everyone is crazy but me and thee and I'm not so sure about thee.
