Well, are used as Shin'a'in for the Velgarth books anyway. And a good deal of them look like they are what the Shin'a'in is based on. Well, I always say fantasy is based in reality... Well, i must take a break from my message for this: ::Silve slaps herself in the head for her stupidity:: To explain, *right* after I sent my rather short post yesterday, I remembered two things I wanted to say. In response to the rather...ah...*familiar* Romany words, I thought that was really interesting. It almost was like a little inside joke. Well, a while ago there was a little discussion as to soundtrack music, and although 1. I dont see popular music in the soundtrack- more like medieval sounding and such- maybe some Lorena McKennit and things the Bards would have sung, and- 2. I really don't like the Goo Goo Dolls that much, I caught some of the lyrics while listening to this song, and it reminded me of mPawn/mPrice. It seems a lot like a song relating to Stef's relationship with Van (and some of the song seems to be about that relationship in comparison to Van's with 'Lendel). So apoligies for the length, but I wanted to show the whole song: Black Balloon Goo Goo Dolls Baby's black balloon makes her fly I almost fell into that hole in your life And you're not thinking 'bout tomorrow 'Cause you were the same as me But on your knees A thousand other boys could never reach you How could I have been the one? I saw the world spin beneath you And scatter like ice from the spoon That was your womb Comin' down the world turned over And angels fall without you there And I go on as you get colder Or are you someone's prayer You know the lies they always told you And the love you never know What's the things they never showed you That swallow the light from the sun Inside your room, yeah Comin' down the world turned over And angels fall without you there And I go on as you get colder Always someone And there's no time left for losin' When you stand they fall Comin' down the world turned over And angels fall without you there And I go on as you get colder All because I'm Comin' down the years turn over And angels fall without you there And I'll go on to bring you home and All because I'm All because I'm And I'll become What you became to me I thought the references to ice and cold and the "angels fall without you there" related to Van, some obvious ones about Stef's feelings (a thousand other boys could never reach you/ how could I have been the one?) and relationship with Van, and the last two lines reminded me of how Van's role in the relationship (relying on 'Lendel, then being the more dominant with Stef) switched, as well as it..um..signified isn't the right word...well, signified the lifebond. Thoughts anyone? Sorry if this sounds a little jilted....I'm trying to express my feelings and it's coming out a little rushed and such. And last, is there any music (perhaps at Firebird) that accompanies the lyrics to "The Shadow-Lover" and "Magic's Price"? Those are my favorite songs in the appendix of mPrice, and I'd like to hear the accompanied music, if there is any. I assumed the discrepancy was because Vanyel and the other characters from LHM are highborn, while the main characters in the other series are either common-born (like Talia) or royalty. Commoners don't need last names because they rarely leave their place of birth, and royalty don't because, who'd get confused? If you say queen selenay, there's only one you can possibly mean. At least, that was the way it worked in most of Europe under feudalism, and Valdemar hs a semi-feudal structure. Also, at some point Talia is referred to as "Talia Sensdaughter," which isn't exactly a last name but identifies her with her extended family. As for Skandranon, his last name is also patronymic (his son Tadrith in Sliver Gryphon has the a last name something like Skandrakae). those are my guesses, anyway. IIRC, in Talia's Orientation class it is taught that all of the first Companions were Grove born. However, soon the mare began to foal, and now all (with the exception of the MOC) are born "normally". That would mean that all those second generation Companions were the product of two groveborns and I doubt that they were any more important that Cymry and Rolans foal. -- Paige Proud Mom of Victoria - 15 months Proud to be Outlandish Royal Defender of The Brat There is no "I" in "TEAM"...but there is an "M" and an "E" ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 15 Aug 1999 16:00:47 -0400 From: "Tanya Evans" To: Subject: Re: Romany/Shin'a'in? Firebird carries ShadowStalker: Songs of Vanyel's Time which has both of those songs on it. Heather Alexander does the singing on it. _________________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!?
