I know I said it in the subject, but I'm just being careful. Anyway, what I was wondering was this. In the beginning, it said that there were both black swans and white swans in the Baron's flock. But after that, the entire black & white thing was dropped (except to emphasise the differences between Odette and Odile) I was expecting there to be something else happening between the black swans and the white swans, but it seemed to never be mentioned again. Does anyone else have thoughts?>>>>>>> I kind of wondered about that as well, but what I personally thought was... that maybe the black swans had either murdered their "betrayed" spouses or allowed some harm come to them. That was the reason for the black vs white in the "flock" Just a thought... That was the reason for the black vs white in > the "flock" Just a thought... Hmm that is a good thought. I also wondered if he just did it as a little extra form of control. He wanted the women to stay beautiful and weren't there almost equal numbers of black and white? It could just have been a matter of style for there to have been black and white cause wasn't Odile a black swan? I would hardly think that her father would want her to wear the color of a murderess, but then again knowing her father he might not have cared. Still the idea of greater sin for the black swans is interesting and it would have been nice if Misty had better explained the reason for the difference. My friend and I also had a discussion of how to pronounce Talia. I said it was supposed to be Tahlia, my friend said it was supposed to be Talia, A as in cat. >> Well, this isn't from an authority or anything, but if you'd like a second opinion, I alwasy pronounced them like this: (note: Some of the syllables are a bit drawn out because the is no good way of showing them, for example, the "yuh" at the beginning of Yfandes isn't very pronounces, it slides into the rest of the word like one would say "y'know".) Yfandes= yuh-FAN-deez Ylsa= YIL-suh Talia= TAH-lee-uh (I've heard it pronounced both ways, and you can pronounce it with an "a" as in "cat", but I've always said it this way.) Speaking of names (and surnames), another related topic is the decline of the use of nicknames (well, really, shortened versions of the characters name). In LHM, basically every character had one (ex: Van, 'Lendel, Stef, 'Fandes, Randi, Joshe, Tran, Meke, Rad, 'Lenna, Kell, Jays), and in the later trilogies, they are almost nonexistent. Maybe it's just because the newer characters don't really *have* shortened versions of their name to use (maybe they would sound funny), but it was just a little topic I'd wondered about, so, any thoughts.....?
