I think it is agreed that Heralds are given the option of coming back as Companions, but the question was if there was any text that supported Companions coming back as Heralds. I haven't spoken up in a while, but when I read about folks listing favorites, I had to throw in a vote for Darkwind. I am what they call "an old married lady", hehe, and yet this character captured my imagination long ago and still holds me in thrall. There is something mysterious and deep to him that cannot be matched IMHO. To me he remains the unshakeable fantasy hero. Kara, who has no special name..... :( I do have a gaming character named Rainlark, but I am sure it is probably taken already on this list. __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? At the end, when Karal is walking the moonpaths and meets with Florian...Florian says that he made his choice, and it should be obvious...Karal agrees that it is and memorizes Florian's face so that he recognizes it in about 10-15 years when he comes strolling into Haven. Message-ID: As to your first question, HP to PB turnaround time, Ya got me. It happens when it happens. Seems to me to be on the order of 9 months to a year, though. For your second question, If I mind me right, Queen's Own is a HB compilation of all three "Arrows" books; (Arrows of the Queen, Arrow's Flight, Arrow's Fall) Personally, I prefer getting the books in HB, I get to read the stories quicker, they last longer, and they somehow look more "respectable" on my bookshelf(which is ,by necessity, out where everyone can see it). As for compilation books in general (which has been a popular topic lately), I for one LIKE them, my old PBs are so worn that pages are coming loose in some, and I don't really want to spend the money for each seperate story in HB. Getting them in compilation form serves several purposes. I get a nice, relatively cheap, space-saving HB for MY reading, and I have no problem whatsoever loaning the old PB out to any who might like to read them. So far, I know of 3 of the 3-in-1 Valdemar books: "Queen's Own" (Talia), "Vows and Honor" (Tarma & Kethry), and "The Herald Mage"( Vanyel) And I've been hoping for some time for a "Mage Wars" 3-in-1 to come out from the guys at SFBC. I have to agree with Kara, there is definitely something about Darkwind. In fact, one of my chief complaints about the Mage Storms series is that I don't get enough of him! I haven't yet read The LHM series (blasphemy, I know, I know) so I don't know how he compares to everyone's littel darling Vanyel, but there is a sense of strength about Darkwind, he always had so much responsibility, and that strength is incredibly attractive! Plus, it makes the moments when he does let his guard down and risk that vulnerability (ie, admitting Elspeth's position might force them to be apart in the begginig/middle of WOFury, all the more heartfelt. Just my two cents, what can i say, I am one of those hopeless romantics who just can't resist when big tough guys open up! :) And a question that I have been puzzling over while trying to write the bio of a support character for my Queen's Own stuff: How exactly are people admitted to the Magic Schools, ie White Winds and Blue Mountian. Are they choen in some way, can anyone go? How long are they there for? What do they do after? OHHHH, and WHERE are those two schools, in Valdemar, or which country and where in it, I haven't been able to find it! Peanut Butter Sheep with sprinkles on top to all! OHHHH, and WHERE are those two schools, >in Valdemar, or which country and where in it, I haven't been able to find >it! --------- Good question! I don't have an answer for your first two questions, but I have a partial answer for the last one. I think there are multiple schools in different places around Velgarth. I don't know if any of the novels really talk about the Blue Mountain schools, but there's a lot about White Winds in the Oath books, beacuse that is the school that Kethry was trained in. It's been so long since I've read them that I'm not sure of any specifics that may have been mentioned about it. But I do know that Winds of Fate talks a bit about Quenten's White Winds school in Rethwellan. Quenten turned the Skybolt's old winter quarters in Bolthaven into the school. (WoF Chapter 9) So that's one. I vaguely remember mentions of other schools, but I couldn't tell you where they're at. Wind to thy wings, Lovesinger Visit my webpage!
