I think that what was mentioned was the entire royal family, including those that weren't King or Queen, such as cousins, aunts, uncles, etc. These are the ones that, IMO, would be most travel-worthy to other countries. Even in Vanyel's time, it was a regular occurence to have a member of the royal family marry into another country's royal family to keep things peaceful and such, so the thought of them not having any travel experience would be odd. On the other hand, though, the only ones that truly had to have Companions were the monarchs. Any other relative was able to skip by without one :). I've been drowning in work lately but I thought I'd take a moment to post. I was re reading LHM and I noticed something. Several times in this series there is a mention of focus stones in mage craft. After this in the rest of the valdemar books there is no real mention of focus stones. Was this a form of mage craft that only the Heralds used? or is it just something that the Tayledras don't use? And how many in the royal family are there. They never mention that elspeth has any family other then Selenay and then when the twins are born. Selenay was an only child. So how many from the royal family are there. Now there are more but there usually doesn't seem many. They don't even mention the fact of relatives. The only relatives you hear about are the Ashkevrons and they didn't know till later books that the ashkevron blood ran in the royal family. I do have a thought. You wonder what happened to Vanyels other two children. We know about Jisa a bit and Brightstar. But what about the other ones. And what ever happened to the people of Tylendel there are still some left you figure. And of Medren. I just think that these characters would be neat to know what actually happened to them. I mean even finding out how StarFall and Moondance died might be interesting. We certainly don't hear enough about some of the interesting characters or little twists that have went into the novels.
