Vanyel was trained by the Hawk Brothers. Also you think someone would have wrote it down in the archives about how to do it. And once the ban on magic was released they would have been able to find it. >it just something that the Tayledras don't use? Hmmmmmmmmm. What about Valdemar though. It had an abundance of nodes that the adepts could use. And then Vanyel made the heartstone. I always th ought the focus was more for the individual. I mean something that can help them concentrate and relax. But in LHM they used it to pull power through. So you never know why nothing is said about it again. I've read the book a number of times and can't recall any mention of Tamsin and Cinnabar having children. The only characters from Black and White with family are Skan and Gesten. As to Urtho, I know he had no children and there wasn't any mention of his having any relatives at all. If you're thinking of when (now was it Skan or Tamsin?) someone tells Aubri about Cinnabar's relationship with Urtho they said she was *like* a combination of older sister and trusted advisor, but I don't think they meant she was actually related to him by blood. However, she also knows by the "present day" that the Companions managed to keep magic a forgotten resource for centuries. I would guess that once away from Mages and magic and back in Valdemar most Heralds would have their memories wiped by their Companion. As to non-Heralds, I would think that they would automatically attribute the illusion they saw to someone like our "Magicians" (i.e. more of a David Copperfield, less of a Merlin) ;-) -- Paige GO LEAFS!!! Ah well, thought I might as well toss my opinion in here. Even though it isn't actually mentioned that any of the mages are using focus stones, that doesn't go to say that they aren't. Misty just might not have found it important enough to highlight that, where as with Vanyel it was a pretty major thing because it was Stef's last link with his shay'krethe'ashke after Van died. Then again, all of my speculation could be wrong.. but there's my two cents. The Companions helped Vanyel put the spell up. Most of Valdemar's ambassadors are Hearlds so the Companions would keep the Hearlds from knowing about it. Besides, after Vanyels time and before the trouble with Ancar, how many Hearlds or people actually left Valdemar? Ambassadors only left Valdemar when there was need for a treaty - Ambassadors weren't stationed in foreign power's courts. There were no embassy. The only people who left Valdemar were probably the free traders and gypsies. The people were already in the best possible place so why should they leave? If the ambassadors were in Valdemar they couldn't talk about or think about magic except as a tale or as something long ago because of the cororsion (sp?) spell Vanyel put up. Remember the trouble Kero had? On who I would want to be related to: It would be Vanyel. Through him I'd be related to Savil,Lissa, Firesong, and the entire Royal line and the K'Treva clan.
