Elspeth shouldn't have been able to see the blue glow surrounding her...the Truth spell creates a blue glow that is only available to outsiders, which vanishes when the truth is not told. Unless the Tayledras vrondi are different from the Valdemar ones...hmm...? ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 9 Nov 1999 02:23:08 -0800 (PST) From: Peter Allen To: mercedes-lackey-+AT+-herald.co.uk Subject: Re: Vrondi: Seen or unseen? I think that the difference between the two is that the boy wasn't mage-gifted as much as Elspeth was. Most of fthe people of Valdemar aren't mage-gifted, only a select few. This is especially true during Vanyel's time, where even the existence of Vrondii were known to only a few people. Another thing is that Elspeth had an unusually strong mage gift, which might lend credibility to her seeing it while others do not. (the vrondi around his head) Elcarth: Not so much as a glimmer, but anyone except the person bespelled sees the glow, whether or not they've got a Gift. Now, since I don't have a copy of WoC, I can't examine that second quote. Was the person casting the spell Tayledras? The Truth Spell is native to Valdemar, so any versions of it from other land may have different properties, such as the person bespelled being able to see the glow. (AotQ, PB, pg. 279) Hmm....obmisty to fill this out. Well, this is a little about Owlknight, but it has nothing to do with the plot, so I don't think it needs to be spoiled. I had been wondering why no Velgarth person had invented a shower yet, so that mystery was finally solved when Darian decided to make one. Another devie curiously missing is a tape recorder of some sort. You would think that through MindGifts or magic they'd have a way of recording sound, but in AF, when it's said, "Dirk surrendured himself to the song, little guessing that he was surpassing his own best this night as well. Kris knew, as he accompanied them- and he wished there was a way to capture the moment for all time." (AF, PB, pg. 59) Huh, go figure. That's probably a YKYRTMMLW..... Oh, does anyone know of how to contact the OoUH? I've e-mailed the screen name listed in the NewbieFest, but with no response..... Well, that's my two cents.
