It has been shown that a Herald with the regular fetching gift can train a firestarter because Dirk trained Griffon.. so maybe they just didn't want to throw even one more responsibility on Van... with him always being thrown places at the last minute his poor student would never get any work done! ^_- Van ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 24 Nov 1999 16:05:00 +0100 (CET) From: Christie Maas To: mercedes-lackey-+AT+-herald.co.uk Subject: Re: Lavan Firestorm Message-ID: <199911241505.QAA14730-+AT+-ch.twi.tudelft.nl> Hi everyone, > I'm not sure if Vanyel was really a firestarter. actually, he did have enough of the 'fire starting'gift to ensure he could always light a candle. it was a 'minor' gift, but there. at the end of magic's pawn, it is said he had openings to all gifts, even a little bit of healing. > I mean, we all know that he > could blow up just about anything he wanted to, but that was with mage power > and not mind gifts. That seems to have been later changed and he had every gift except Bardic. He had Firestarting we just never found out how powerful his firestarting was. He used it only once that I can remember and that was in the second book of LHM. And plus, Vanyel was a really really really busy person If I remember correctly, Van had just enough Firestarting to light a candle. Firestarting wouldn't have needed Van to train him in it, either... Even someone who's gift is Fetching can train a Firestarter. After all, Dirk did! No sense in taking someone who has only minor Firestarting to teach a major Firestarting talent, especially when he's seriously needed elsewhere. As you said, he was busy, so chances are good he might not even have heard of the bright new flame. =) Kris ------------------------------ End of MERCEDES-LACKEY Digest 2144 **********************************
