Not that it solves everything, but I have hunted for and found the actual quote concerning Lavan Firestorm: " 'Lavan Firestorm--' Talia said in comprehension. 'I remember now; he almost single-handedly drove back the Dark Servants at the Battle of White Foal Pass. But at Burning Pines his companion was killed, and the last Firestorm he called up consumed him as well as the enemy.' 'There's nothing but bare rock at Burning Pines to this day. Those who were there were just lucky he retained enough hold on his sanity to warn them before he called down the Fires. And there's no guarantee the Firestorm *couldn't* be turned against friends as well as enemies--rage can often be blind. . . .' Ylsa replied." (AotQ, p. 287 pb) Talia does refer to Leareth and his army as the "Dark Servants", but I somehow doubt that those and the ones Lavan fought are the same. For one thing, Vanyel never uses the term, so I assume it was thought up by later generations. For another, White Foal Pass is on Valdemar's southern border, going into Rethwellan, and Leareth was invading from the North. Therefore, there is no evidence that Vanyel and Lavan were contemporaries. I do regret that the Lavan book will not mention Van, but I'll be interested in knowing what was going on then. I don't share the seemingly list-wide desire to know more about the Empire; the story I most wanted to know, that of Sunsinger and Shadowdancer, will never appear. However, I'd be quite interested in a short story book about Vanyel - all his exploits and adventures down on the Karsite border. He describes some of them briefly in Magic's_Promise, and we get a little more in the songs in the back of Magic's_Price, but I'd love to hear the whole story. I never can get enough of Vanyel . There is one situation I must rectify. Someone has remarkably been staying dry, that's quite enough of that! Welcome, Syara, and ! Consider yourself wet! If you look around, you can probably find people with fluffy sheep towels, who'll give you one if you're nice. Sorry I didn't warn you about this when you joined the list . Yvonne, where are you with the Enchanted Bucket? When Vanyel sets up the Web so that it's connected to all Heralds and he makes the vrondi guard the country and such, he says that the vrondi are only supposed to watch out for mages. I am wondering why they were watching Talia in Arrow's Flight? Even though her gift had gone rogue she was not a mage as far as I know... If this questionst already been asked i'm terribly sorry to bore you...! Thank yoU!!!
