However, it is true that for them to be contenders for the throne, in other words related to the royal family, then they would be Van's descendents, through Jisa. This does not mean, though, that Orthallen was as well; I believe his relation to Kris was on the other side of the family. Slight disagreement here.. If Kris was a descendent of Vanyel, which I don't personally think he is, then Orthallen would also have to be a descendent too. It says in one of the Arrows books that Kris gets his good looks from Orthallen's side.. and since Vanyel is drop dead gorgeous that would put him on Orthallen's side.. ew. Hmm, and a random off topic blurb here.. If any of you haven't read Swords of Ice then I'd suggest going out and getting it ^_^ Even though the stories weren't written by Misty she did have a hand in them.. and there is a little short story about Vanyel on the Karse border.. and a really neat one that Misty wrote about Savil and the Tayledras! O.o; But she kind of makes it look like Starwind's got a crush on Savil O.o; which is just odd. Thanks. > Have you tried the advanced book exchange on the web? www.abebooks.com Its a listing of second hand bookstores and they tell the condition of the books. I've bought several through them and haven't been bitten yet. Last time I looked they had a large selection of Misty stuff. You just say you want the book and the seller will get back to you as to wether or not they still have it...its an option and you can pay through check or money order. On a related off topic topic Do any of you have the 3-1 of The Last Herald Mage? I got my copy through the sci fi book club a few years ago and I was shocked to find out how much people are wanting for it now. I was looking for it for a friend on Ebay since sci fi doesn't offer it anymore and I didn't have any luck on abe and the two copies they had were going for $100 and $200!!!! sheesh didn't know Misty was that popular! Ok for an obMisty I just always assumed that Jissa and Stefan were in their middle to late teens. Old enough in Jissa's case to be married...so lets say 18 or so. And old enough in Stefan's case that Van didn't see it as falling for a child once he realized what had happened. Misty has never seemed very concerned about dating her characters. That's like how old are Tarma and Kethry in By the Sword? If you look at the chronology in the front of the books they have to be around 90+ Oh who else is seriously getting ticked at Baen Books? I'm getting really tired of them re releasing Misty's books in 2in1 types without telling fans that they aren't new books at all. I got excited about Chrome Borne until I realized it was just the Tannim books in one. I know its a marketing ploy on Baens part but I wish Misty would get around to writing the next Serrated Edge and the next Eric Beth Kory book. I love Valdemar dearly but those two series are fun. well that better be all for now, death by chocolate cake to everyone Amy Ferret Friend Lady of All Things Missing, Especially Socks ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 28 Nov 1999 10:39:01 PST From: "Lady Sunhawk" To: mercedes-lackey-+AT+-herald.co.uk Subject: books about folks Message-ID: <19991128183902.95870.qmail-+AT+-hotmail.com> Heyla listsibs! Just emerging from my position of lurkdom for a bit.....I finally got Four and Twenty Blackbirds out of the library (amazing....they have fantasy in my dinky lil neighborhood library. Jeez, my *school* has a bigger collection of ML than my local). Anyway, on to the ObMisty.... (sorry, forget who said this) >However, I'd be quite interested in a short story book about Vanyel ->all >his exploits and adventures down on the Karsite border. Yeah! That would be interesting, but, IMHO, only good for a few stories. Its sort of the same thing over and over--Vanyel fights demons. Vanyel gets some new scars. Vanyel saves Valdemar for another few days, until the next demons come up. Repeat from beginning. Maybe ML could write a few tales about Vanyel the peacock, before he was sent to Haven. It'd be interesting to see what he and Lissandra (?I think she's the one?) got into as kids. >Too tell you the truth I would like to read more about >the Shin'a'in especially when Tarma's clan is put back up. Those >few >short >stories about Keth's kids really weren't enough since they didn't >deal >much >with Shin'a'in lifestyle. I want to learn more about Jadrie. > >Lightwing ::sound of loud applause:: Absolutely! Can't hear enough about Tarma and Kethry....they're my absolute favorite characters of Misty's. Oathblood was really good, but more would be great! Misty mentions something in Oathbound about a debacle with the Imp of the Perverse and "Tarma's own big mouth", I'd love to hear that one too. I'd also love to hear about the Shin'a'in lifestyle....so far we've only gotten glimpses of it. One more thing....anybody remember many months ago, we were discussing Valdemar recipies? And someone submitted one for meat pies, made with Pillsbury Crescent rolls dough? Well, I'd really like to make them again, so if anyone still has the recipie, could you please pass it along to me? Is it just mindspeaking over a large distance, or is it more? Part of this was brought on by a passage I found when re-re-reading Arrows Fall, when Devan is trying to get Dirk to help Talia: "Come on little fishy, he thought, trying to imbue his will with all the coercive force of a Farspeaking Herald." The other thing that brought this on is that I rolled Farspeach and Mindspeach for my character in Queen's Own, and I'd like to know the difference between the two so I know exactly what my character can do! So I have a question, no not about sheep, but about the > '' Ambermoon gave me? *L* That little tradition (is it?) was started by Yours Truely ;P when I decided that I just wasn't suited to POUNCE-ing on newbies and decided to *sploosh* them instead. :) Then our lovely Troll Adept (waves -+AT+- Muranog) gave me my Enchanted Bucket (tm) and it and it's twin, owned by Brynn (and weilded by Sarah, apparently ;P) have been greeting newbies ever since. ON BOOK BLURBS & COVER ART: Maybe it's just me, but I have to admit that I do look to the back blurbs quite often when deciding whether or not to buy/read a book. They may be horribly wrong in the details but at least they give you a general idea as to the plot of the novel in question. Like, in MPromise (is it MPromise that we're discussing? I dont hvae Van's books) it at least says that Vanyel has humongous potential to become a mage and ends up studying somewhere forign. But I have to admit that before I look at a back blurb (or even the inside ones) I tend to look at the cover & make a decision based on that. I can't help it - I'm an increadably visually oriented type of person. I tend to be attracted to calmer covers, or ones with bright colours as opposed to ones featuring half-naked Fabio types hacking a large mud-coloured monster to bloody bits. But then again, maybe it's just me. To Claire: *A watery looking figure creeps out from behind a Potted Plant (gotta love those things) carrying a bucket ... make that Bucket (tm), and-* ..... .. .... ... *SPLOOSH* *Yvonne peers into her bucket in surprise* Hmm. The former is Tayledras while the latter is Shin'a'in. They both mean the same thing. :) And I've run out of time, as informed by my aging basset. ;) She Who Must Be Obeyed is baying! How it gladdens my heart to see the ring is still weaving its magic. You see, it was actually the ring which brought me back to the list today. I wanted to share the beginning of the Friendship Ring tradition with a friend, and so I searched the archives for that first lovely gifting of the ring. While in the archives, I took a peek at the current digest, and realized I had been away for far too long. It's nice to back in the Halls of Mist. Chocolate-mint ice cream flavored sheep to you all.
