I've never quite figures that out. -------- I think that the confusion has a lot to do with the characters' perspectives and beliefs. They don't know everything about their gods and goddesses, in fact, they probably hardly know anything at all. I would think that it's a lot like in the real world. There's a lot of religions with different dieties, and some people would say there all the same, and some people would say that theirs is the only true one, but no one can really know for certain. I wonder if Misty even knows all about the dieties she writes about. I mean, she may not know if the Shin'a'in goddess and the Lady Windborn are actually the same, or just similar.....and I really don't know what I'm talking about anymore! I guess exams have fried my brains...I'm not really making sense. Well, it all sounded good inside my head. :) Stress-relief sheep to all! --Lovesinger ______________________________________________________ Get Your Private, Free Email at http://www.hotmail.com ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 14 Dec 1999 12:20:13 +0800 From: shireena To: mercedes-lackey-+AT+-herald.co.uk Subject: Re: Gods, how many are there Message-ID: <3855C57D.63E6-+AT+-ppp.nasionet.net> Sharry Adams wrote: > > Syara wrote: > I'm rereading Storms and Kalanel was mentioned as the Consort of Vykandis. > And in Oathbound the Star-eyed said " I am nothing but another face of > your own Lady Windborn...." The concept that all the gods and godesses are one really blew my brains away the first time I read Misty's books. Somehow to think there's a unity underlying all the diverse characteristics is very mysterious. Although my favourite goddess is Lady Kalenel of the Shinain, if she's the same as Lady Windborn, no prayer however small will ever go in vain. To think of all the power locked up in each form waiting to manifest ! Mint-flavoured vanilla ice sheep to all. I read it before i even KNEW who Misty was. I checked it out at the muskogee library bcuz i liked the cover. as i started reading it, i realized it waws similar to the movie "the swan princess" i started wondering which was based on the other, and figgered the movie was based on the book. When i tried to find it again at teh library the next month (and several times since then) i couldn't! oh and on the all gods = one, i dont know about anyone else on the list, but im wiccan and thats what we believe to. well, i gotta go catch the bus! Well, since she's the author, I think we can safely assume that, if anyone knows, she's the one. Actually, in a sense, Misty's relationship to the Godhead (or any other aspect of Velgarth) is not one of "knowing" but of "deciding." Since she is the creatryx, there is nothing *to know* until she decideds how things will be. =) Ooooo, the power of authorship! *giggle* May the seas be your solace and the forests a refuge for your spirit, Cennydd Councilor of Mist Kenneth Allen Hyde | No matter how subtle the wizard, a knife Univ. of Delaware | between the shoulder blades will seriously Dept. of Linguistics | cramp his style -- Old Jhereg proverb kenny-+AT+-Udel.Edu | A mind is a terrible toy to waste! -- Me //www.ling.udel.edu/hyde/prof/ken.html ------------------------------ End of MERCEDES-LACKEY Digest 2163 **********************************
