Ideas? (I could be looking at the wrong books for >the information and do not have them with me at this time) ------------ I don't have my books with me now, so I can't check for references, but I just read the Storms recently, and they definately said that the Tervardi are flightless. I don't remember what it said about them in Silver Gryphon, but if they were able to fly back then, it's possible that they evolved into flightless creatures. It was a time span of a millinium or two between those books, so you never know. You know, now that I think about it, I'd like to see more about the "other" intellegent races of Velgarth. Perhaps not as a main character, but as an important supporting character? All you ever see of the hertasi is as "servants" to the Hawkbrothers. There was that one (I forget his name) in the Mage Wars books that they taked about a lot...you got to see the story from his perspective a little, and then the 2 kyrees- Warrl (in the Oath books) and Rris (in Winds & Storms). And that Kyree clan that saved Vanyel. But you never see much about tervardi or dyheli or others (I'm sure I'm forgetting some.) Anyways, that's my 2 cents for the day! --Lovesinger ______________________________________________________ Get Your Private, Free Email at http://www.hotmail.com ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 18 Dec 1999 17:39:28 PST From: "Brynn/Jennifer Ireland" To: mercedes-lackey-+AT+-herald.co.uk Subject: winter celebrations of Velgarth Message-ID: <19991219013928.82880.qmail-+AT+-hotmail.com> heyla, listsibs! i've been away (bogged down in RL) for ages, but now here i am again, and with a question no less! okay, so in the spirit of winter holidays, i was thinking about valdemar's midwinter celebrations, and i was wondering, what exactly are they celebrating? i mean, is it religious in any way, or a celebration of, for example, i don't know, snow or health or the moon or love or something (<= those are *not* guesses or suggestions, BTW!)? After my ponderings on this subject, i mentally wandered into the winter traditions of other countries/peoples of velgarth. do the shin'a'in, tayledras, rethwellans, hardornians, or the people of the empire do anything? i would check in the books for text-evd myself except a) most of my books are lent out; b) i would probably be too lazy anyways; and c) the list is slow, so why not ask? any thoughts? peppermint cocoa in friendly sheep-shaped mugs for all, ~Lady Brynn (minus most of her sig.) *She'enedra to Moonstalker *High Priestess of Kelpies, Selkies, and the Water-Borne *Carrier of the Enchanted Bucket #2 (tm) .:*~*:._.:*~*:._.:*~*:._.:*~*:._.:*~*:._.:*~*:._.:*~*:._.:*~*:._.:*~*: ______________________________________________________ Get Your Private, Free Email at http://www.hotmail.com ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 18 Dec 1999 22:19:43 -0800 (PST) From: Miranda Warren To: mercedes-lackey-+AT+-herald.co.uk Subject: Re: Tervardi Message-ID: <19991219061943.2004.qmail-+AT+-web219.mail.yahoo.com> Hm... there went my lurker status... ah well! Ideas? (I could be looking > at the wrong books for > the information and do not have them with me at this > time) Well... it does say in those that they can't fly... kind of like ostriches (sp?). They couldn't fly above that little cloud that Falconsbane sent to kill them in his wild Nyara plot. If they had been able to fly then she wouldn't have been able to use her happy little powers. (can we all tell I need to go to bed? I sure can!) Oh! I just got about halfway through Oathblood and I have decided to become a defender of Leslac! Yes, before I get flamed, I have a reason!! He is truly annoying, but dangnabbit he amuses me! Anyone who can make me laugh like that needs a defender. ::brandishes her leslac sheild:: He got under Tarma's skin, so he was good for something. Don't get me wrong, I love Tarma, but she was always so collected. He always destroyed that. He diserved his fate and doesn't deserve saving from the personal hell he himself created, but I will defend him for his amusement factor alone. Alrighty... I'm babbling.. so Aryenne is going to bed before she get attacked.
