And happy holidays for everyone (no matter what you're celebrating). I got 'River's Gift' for Christmas and stayed up all night to read it all. I would have had it read earlier in the day, but my grandfather asked to read the book jacket, and then became so enthralled that I didn't get it back untill after he read the entire thing. I must say... A wonderful book. I am really glad that someone bought it for me for Christmas. I wasn't looking forward to having to go out and spend $12 on it, but if I hadn't gotten it for Christmas I would have. I guess there might need to be a little S P O I L E R Space here... The story is fairly simple. I was a little disapointed at the lack of obsticals and the way the charicters weren't looked at more in depth. I know it was just a short little book, more of a novela, but still... I did, however, love the intrusion of creaters from the OtherRealm. Most of Misty's books don't include many creatures of fantasy (just the occational elf, unicorn, or other Sidhe creatures...) Just the menchion of these creatures was enough to make me smile. I did how a problem with the ending though. It was, again, too simple. One of those happily-ever-after spiels where we are to assume that everything worked out fine, even though there were surly complications. I want to here about those complications! You could tell it was written for a younger reading audiance. On a whole though I did love the book. And I have several younger realitives and friends that I will surely be introducing to Misty through this book. END S P O I L E R Space now. Anyways... Everyone have fun, be safe, etc... Am I the only one too daft to realize the whole story behind Sunsinger and Shadowdancer? While listening to my new 'Heralds, Harpers, and Havok' cd, flipping threw my LHM and AotQ concordances, and my 'Arrows Fall' book I stumbled accross more to the story then I befor realized. Rothas Sunsinger and Lythe Shadowdancer were two would-be lovers in early day Valdemar. A series of strange curses were placed upon them making it so that he- the singer- can only wake in the sunlight, and she- the dancer- can only live at night... and they can have only the briefest of meetings at twilight (whoever once said it was much like Lady Hawke, I agree!). The two found eachother after the curse was upon them- he saw her in sleeping/death during the day, and she witnessed his sleeping/death during the night. The two knew instently that they were ment to be together. If the two ever attempted to touch then death would ensue, because of the curse. Eventually the two aquire enough magic to break the curse, but they risk that magic to help a Herald (and heir) named Windrider and his companion, Darshay. Windrider and Darshay had been captured by a Darklord and drained of all their powers. Just as Windrider and Darshay begin to loose hope, Sunsinger and Shadowdancer come. They could use their new won powers to save the captive Herald, but to do so would most likely make it so they could not break their curse. After must heart searching to two lovers (for that is what they are) decided to give Windrider their power so that he and Darshay could be freed. When the Darklord returned he found that he prisoners had escaped. Eventually Sunsinger and Shadowdancer do gain enough powers to break their curses and they became two of the earliest Heralds. Well... now that I've given off my long-winder spiel about what I learned (and everyone else prob'ly already knew). I'll leave you for the moment... But if I got any of the facts wrong, or left anything out of this story, let me know... It's me again- the Thief'o'Names... You're prob'ly getting sick of my mailings by now, but having just gotten new Misty stuff, I have lots to write on... 'Heralds, Harpers, and Havok'.... Why would they start the cd with that scarey sheep song? I almost turned off the stereo right then and there. It's very frightening, though I like it in a sort of sick, sadistic way... 'Philosophy' is a fun song... I like it bunches. Likewise is my preferance of 'Sun and Shadow'... 'Her Father's Eyes' has great lyrics, but... well... as with several other songs... I don't really like Misty's voice in teh role of Queen Selenay... I havn't listened to the entire cd yet, so I'm sure I'll have later views too... 'Serrated Edge' by Tempest. Finally! I get good recordings of some traditional music. I'll deffinetly be able to join in some pub singing at RenFaire this year! 'Mad Tom of Bedlam' is already looking to be my favorite song.... Though 'Reels on Fire' is a close second... I recieved one other filk cd for Christmas, and although not Misty, I thought I should tell everyone about the group. They are called Urban Tapestry and the cd is 'Myths and Urban Legends'. If you havn't heard the group, you should. They are among my favorite filk musicians ever. You can buy their music through Firebird Arts and Music, so they arn't difficult to get ahold of... Listen to them!
