I had a question for anyone who would be so good as to answer. Is it me, or did Talia pretty much drop off of the face of the earth after she got married? I know I am running a little behind in my book reading, but I don't think she has ever really made much of a revisitation to Lackey's books. As the first book I ever read was Arrows of the Queen, I found Talia still ranking as a favorite character. I've noticed Misty tends to do that. The only character she has really continued with for more than three books is Firesong and he is more of an intermediary for the other main characters. If you think about it Talia, Dirk, Elspeth, Darkwind and all the other characters she creates eventually become just supporters for the main characters of whatever trilogy she is doing. Darkwind and Elspeth were the main characters of the Winds books while Karal and An'desha were the main characters in the Storms books with the other two just there for support. Maybe if Misty does a book that involves Selenay's and Talia's children Talia will be active the way Amberdrake was still a character, but not the main focus in Silver Gryphon. RPing is where one puts themselves into a character and plays out that character. Note: Roll means one uses dice for actions, no matter what character is or does, the dice are the means. It is in poor form. ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 28 Dec 1999 02:37:16 -0600 From: "Joy Nelson" To: Subject: Re: The vanishings of Talia... Wouldn't it be great if she turned it into a QUARTET??? Besides, if she doesn't do it, I just know it will show up as fanfiction in one place or another, eventually. But she is dabbled in all the books, in one place or another. Don't forget how she introduces Karal to An'desha. Wow, that whole paragraph about Talia and her name only said once, Oy! Talia is one of my favourite character but I don't think I would want to see any fanfiction ever about Talia. No matter how good the writer is they could never capture the way Mercedes Lackey wrote Talia. As for her being in the other books it was nice for them to put her in. She was also in the Storms books a few different times. She was also in By The Sword as well. As for making another novel I am not sure what they could write about anymore. Her trials were done or so I always thought. The only thing I might like to see Mercedes Lackey write would be a short story about Talia and Dirk and Alberich going into Karse to meet with Solaris. That might be interesting to see but I don't think you could make it into a novel. NO, it won't because Misty has rabid attack lawyers who stomp on any fan scribblings to protect her copyright. Same for RPing. Not Allowed. Misty said she'd add on another to the *beginning*, telling of Skif's early life (yippee, I can't WAIT for that to come out =)). So maybe Talia will be mentioned somewhere at the end of that book, but I don't see how, since Skif came to the Collegium quite a while before Talia, IIRC. I thought about a year and a half before, since Skif came back from his field-training just as Talia left for hers, and field-training lasts a year-and-a-half. I was led to believe that fan fiction wasn't frowned upon that much so long as it was for personal use. I write some fiction in her world but I never send it to anyone. It is my own characters. Roleplaying as well I would put to personal use as well though not mention it on a mailing list to get people interested. I definitely wouldn't play it over the web. I know on IRc there are many fan channels out there about Valdemar and some of the other areas of Velgarth. Oh well it is also hard to go after a person on the internet because not everyone uses there real identity on here. I think I will end here since I have other stuff to do as well. A two (or more) person perspective. That way we could see Solaris making her rise and then changes, her approaching Alberich (covertly of course) Talia's journey into Karse (and BTW, I don't think both Dirk and Alberich went with her, for she says that Selenay sent her with an escort of one) and her being made a Priestess. Perhaps it would be a small part if the story also included the goings on in Karse during the storms, but at least she'd be in more than a paragraph. I would still like to see a fourth added on to Arrows, mainly because I'd like to see why she decided to have children. Not that I think she shouldn't, but it's been said that not many Heralds do, and Talia and Dirk aren't exactly the "safest" of Heralds... -- Paige GO LEAFS!!!
