If you have a signed copyright release from Mercedes Lackey, or if you have a letter that guarantees you immunity from prosecution, then you might be safe. Otherwise (and even in the latter case), your fan fiction is an illegal violation of Misty's copyrights. However, I doubt very much that Misty will ever give anyone "carte blanche" where her materials are,so I doubt that any copyright release she may provide QO members with will include an unlimited release to write an ongoing plotline. If you do have a copyright release from Misty, you should read it very carefully and make sure that you know exactly what it allowed and what is still illegal. If you don't have a release, you should not be doing fanfic at all. Now, down to my Ob-misty: Talia is often mentioned in passing, such as her frequent amassadorial trips (usually Rethwellan), but I miss her, too, and also (especially) Dirk. I can't see Misty doing a fourth Arrows (as much as i wish she would...) but it would be really cool to see Talia in Karse, Hardorn, or with the Tayledras or Shin'a'in. Seeing as she's QO, she does have a major role in the kingdom, so i do actually think there is a possibility of revival... cross your fingers! my $0.02 on The River's Gift (no spoiler needed, i hope): My mother bought it for me for no apparant reason, and it liked it a lot. While it has nowhere near the complex plot and character developement of her novels, it is entertaining, light, and fairy-tale-ish. i agree that it is a perfect entry point into Misty and fantasy for younger people. while i would probably not have purchased it for myself, i would probably have eventually bought it for the purpose of lending. One thing i wish is that there had been at least a *little* more character developement so i could feel conected to them, but then again, i can't write short stories for that very reason. i thought that the main character was a sort of cookie-cutter (stereotypical) Misty damsel-in-distress-who-is-almost-capable-of-helping-herself-but-not-quite,-due-to-circumstances-rather-than-personality/grit/ability-or-lack-thereof. i am finding increasing similarities between her main characters, and i wish she would write someone into being with the old Misty spark and uniqeness (is that a word?). For instance look at Talia with Elspeth and > with Robin in the Arrows books. And I know in one book they said something > about Dirk and children. I think you mistake my meaning of "safe". Being bonded has nothing to do with it. As Queen's own Talia must put herself in the line of fire if anything threatens the Queen. Should an assassin come after her, we know from Arrows Flight, that Talia is one of her defenders. As for Dirk, when he's pulled of riding circuits and made an instructor, he is informed that he will still given "special" assignments. Talia and Dirk are two of the few Heralds to have children. The only others that have been mentioned, IIRC, are Rubrick, Davans parents and, of course, Selenay. I never said I didn't think they'd make good parents. That Talia is good with children goes without saying, it's practically why she was Chosen. Dirk is also very good with them, which is why he was made an instructor (Orientations and Gift's, I believe). But, like I said, I'd just like to read about how, I assume, their desires for children outweighed any misgivings they may have had about having any and living their lifestyle. Personally, I think it would have been a terrible shame for them not to have children, so please don't think I'm saying that. In battle, if say Hellsbane was trained for only Tarma, and Kethry really needed a battlemare and 'Bane was closest to her, she'd be screwed. So both mares have been trained to accept both riders for the sake of convenience and logic. Plus, it saves Misty having to remember who's riding what!
