"We are close, and I think they have a perimeter set up," he said to the car in general. "Natalia, Meg, the last report over the open mike from Evan and Damien sounded bad. As Jay pulled up Callum pulled off his scarf and Barbour, and threw them behind him onto the back seat, chances were very high he was going to be changing in the immediate future and he didn't want to destroy them. He jumped out of the car with far more enthusiasm than he felt and shut the door quietly behind him. He moved quickly down the block and to the corner of the corner building and stuck his head out just far enough to see what was going out, but hopefully not so far as to endanger himself. He really really needed to fit in some weapons training with Meg. She must be here somewhere. Automatic weapon fire sounded out down the road, and the air was lit by small fires scattered across the tarmac which was littered with bits of burning vehicle. There were several black clad soldiers shooting at wolves, tall standing wolves. Callum breathed in deeply, the burning rubber and fuel catching the back of his throat, and recognised the scent. More readings than he liked had dropped to show severly wounded personal, some were greyed out completely. He chanced a glance up out at the battlefield. Numerous small fires burnt, sporadic tracer fire lit up the streets. One of the Chevys smouldered where it had been the victim of a concentrated attack. His people were still working well, though, fighting hard. After the initial attack the failure of the silver bullets was a set back but while a few bullets didn't seem to work, enough automatic fire and the two flame throwers seemed to be having some effect. Hand to hand was out of the question, their terms no doubt about it, but the posse had worked hard on guerilla tactics too. 'Fire and move, fire and move' was the battle cry. Don't let them get up close. Cover your buddies and keep fluid. The noise of the battle, he was glad he'd been able to pull in some favours with the local precinct captain. He sympathised with the cause, one too many torn apart drunk, and had agreed to question incoming reports rigorously and when he had no choice call for SWAT aid directly without sending his own men. That would delay things nicely and he'd warn Morrell when the situation meant clearing out was the only option. Morrell had already considered pulling out though, they were taking more casualties than he wanted, possibly more than acceptable, but the report on likely Guardian interference had stayed his hand. The chance of hitting out in two directions too sweet. Even so, aside from some sort of fracas on one of the rooftops everything had happen so slowly. Then came the report from the perimeter of vehicles coming in, vehicles whose occupants gave wierd readings on the thermal imaging. The smile had come back to his face and he'd started changing orders. Cause some confusion people, try and walk groups together, get them unsettled and use it to disengage. Nice and slow. There's new blood coming in, once it's up and running we are off to high ground to watch the entertainment. [no tags, Lycanpire's eye view?] __________________________________ Do you Yahoo!? It wasn't Morgan's style to give orders, but he knew he couldn't help their fallen comrades, he knew she could... and it kept her away from whatever had done this to them. Morgan didn't know if he should feel proud or guilty about the fact that he considered this a good thing. When he reached the bottom of the stairs, he stopped, and looked about... he was in a dark alley between two buildings, and far off he could see the other streets. He had no idea which way his target had ran but he was nowhere in sight. Chasing either direction was a 50/50 shot... but Morgan realized, that he may spend valuable minutes searching, while others died. Without wasting those minutes, he flew up, and landed on the roof, the concerto of gunfire still coming up from below. He rushed over to where Marie was with the others. "He got away... is there something I can help with ?" he said softly. tags -- ""If we do not write as we speak, people will start to speak as we write" - George Bernard Shaw A.J Venter Lead Developer, DireqLearn 082 726 5103 http://www.direqlearn.org http://www.direqlearn.org/olce http://silentcoder.co.za From ajventer at direqlearn.org Wed Jan 5 07:15:56 2005 From: ajventer at direqlearn.org (A.J. A loud sneeze rocked the booth, followed by the twin clatter of a briefcase full of papers and small change. Disarray was obviously in control at the moment, a fact made clearer by the Australian Blue that the air turned inside the booth. Then there was sounds of firing. He blinked and looked around, scared to move in case it came near him. Reaching down, the papers shuffled back into his hands in the right order and he squatted in the phone box, looking up at the roofs, hoping that he wouldn't be involved, but also that the smell that pervaded the booth wasn't going to soak into his jeans. One of these had already happened, the other might be about to. tag From mik_gotc at yahoo.co.uk Wed Jan 5 20:52:47 2005 From: mik_gotc at yahoo.co.uk (Mik Reed) Date: Sun Jun 26 23:53:56 2005 Subject: [GOTC] Cavalry [tag Meg, Natalia, Jay, Callum] In-Reply-To: <20050105131856.26189.qmail@web40521.mail.yahoo.com> Message-ID: <20050105205247.6145.qmail@web25710.mail.ukl.yahoo.com> > She picked up a semiautomatic loaded with silver > shot and checked that her knife was strapped to her > leg. He never even > noticed the man inside the phone booth. Callum pressed his back hard against the wall of the silver phone booth, trying to avoid being seen and getting shot at. It seemed pretty unlikely that no-one would notice what was happening, and be trying to locate the cause. Indeed, as he shot a glance round the side, he saw a scene of chaos, which would have left him in fits of laughter if he hadn't been so wound up in the whole proceedings. Morrell had received the call from Corporal Jenkins that they were in trouble and focussed his binoculars on the small group, trying to work out what could have generated this sudden spread of ice, it didn't correlate with either the werewolf or the vampire myths they had on file, but then tonight had proved to hold a number of suprises in that direction. Corporal Jenkins clicked his radio off, all to aware that they were sitting ducks, unable to move in the middle of the battle. He caught the movement in his periphery as one of the Lycanpires launched itself towards them, it's padded feet proving a better grip than the Posse's combat boots. With it amongst them automatic fire, as impotent as that had proved, was no longer an option and the ice was soon stained red with pooling blood. As Morrell watched the wavering life signals on his monitor he took consolation in the fact that other troops were managing the withdrawal. Then he gripped the ridge on the bottom of the broken hydrant with ever ounce of strength his vampire fingers had, and pulled himself right into the water stream. When his face came out on the other side the degree of damage wasn't immediately apparent, but almost instantly it became soaked in blood from his shattered face. The water hit his chest with more force than he could ever have anticipated, ripping him into the air, and then yanking both his shoulders unceremoniously from their sockets, but his fingers clung on with every bit of effort he could put into it, and a lot of telekinetic assistance. The water was hitting him square in the chest, making speech or breathing impossible, and then spraying out around the sides under his armpits. His mind found Megs. ~Push my fucking legs down, we have to direct the stream, I didn't get my pretty face completely fucked for no reason !!!!"< Meg struggled to hold the beast at bay long enough to follow Morgan's instructions. "Can't...hold...beast..." A howl was ripped from her throat as the cramping pain intensified. OOC: Morgan caught Meg right before the transformation... Message-ID: Terry smiled at her. "One more stop, then we'll be done, I promise. This is one place I think you'll really like!" They hauled their bags to the waiting cab, and Terry directed the driver to a side street in SoHo. There they pulled up in front of a decrepit building with a Harley Davidson logo on the window. "Leather is here in abundance." They stepped inside and into a world that included as wide a variety of people as anyone could imagine. There were burly bikers and truckers, both male and female. There were willowy women looking through the racks of leather bikinis. There was even a woman in a skimpy leather outfit perusing the whips and other leather accessories. The outfit was skimpy enough, but in addition to that, she was leading a man around the store by a leash. Joy's eyes grew wide, trying to take it all in. She felt extremely out of place here, but for Terry's sake she decided to stay put and just let it wash over her for the moment. "Terry!" the dominatrix waved. "Long time no see, girl! Man, you lookin' fine! Any time you wanna take a walk on the wild side, you got my number." The woman winked. She adjusted her fishnet stockings over her long, shapely cocoa-colored legs. "I'll take a rain check, Francine," Terry said. "Francine, this is Joy, a friend of mine." Joy smiled at her rather shyly, wanting nothing more than to hide behind Terry, as though she were a sofa. She knew there were such people, but had never had anything to do with them. She couldn't imagine how anyone would want to give someone else responsibility for their lives, and especially to submit to whatever they wanted in bed. Francine just waved. "Love to chat, but I got business to take care of. Maybe later, girlfriend." The man waved to the two women and got a vicious rap on the back of the head with a riding crop for his trouble. "Did I give you permission to do anything, slave?" the black mistress barked. Joy winced, and looked down at her feet. "N..n..no, Mistress," he whispered. "Nothin' but work, work, work," Francine moaned. She picked out a whip and another riding crop and dragged the leashed man to the counter. "Later, Ter!" Terry shrugged to Joy. Before they could say anything, though, a slightly feminine voice rang out behind them. "Terry, honey!" The voice belonged to an enormous bearded man dressed in leather pants, a leather vest, and a t-shirt with the sleeves torn out. "It's been too long, sugar!" He hugged her and gave her a kiss on the cheek. Joy hovered in the background, wondering what the hell was going to happen next. All she wanted was a set of leathers. "Er, Terry" she started to speak very apprehensive, was she going to end up with some kind of S & M outfit, and a set of leather handcuffs? There was NO WAY she was getting into a pair of handcuffs for anyone. "Hi, Tiny," Terry grinned. "Just need to get some riding leathers for my friend here. Joy, this is Tiny." Terry could sense her friend's discomfort, and gave the shop owner a silent signal. "Glad to meet you, Joy," the big man said, offering her his hand. "Sorry you had to come in at such a crazy time. The full moon seems to bring out more than shapeshifters around here." Joy shook his hand, laughing a little, relaxing visibly. "Tiny...? Good name!" Tiny smiled broadly. "Isn't it, though? My family had a great sense of humor. I weighed about 11 pounds when I was born." "Yeah, you were a pain even then," Terry kidded. He looked her up and down appraisingly. "I'd say you take a size...6, am I right? Now, do you want pants, or chaps to wear over jeans? I have either. Oh, and Ter, I have some jackets to die for!" "Yeah, a six is about right, I've always had pants before, maybe, I guess I could try some chaps. It would reduce the amount I get cut off next time, heh Terry?" "Let's hope there's not a next time, Joy," Terry said with a smile. Tiny raised an eyebrow. "Cutting off pants? Is this some kinkiness I wasn't included in? Dish, girls!" He handed the leather pants and chaps to Joy as he waited for a response. Joy looked at Terry, who appeared completely at ease. "I got hurt, so my clothes got cut off, so I could get patched up. I'm not planning on doing it again. but you never know." "We'll get you two pair of pants, then, and a pair of chaps. You can try them out, and if you like them you can get some more. Good thing about them it that unless they're really trashed, ER people can get them off without cutting them." Joy examined the pants. They were made from beautiful leather, and inside they felt soft and she could tell they would be a pleasure to wear. "They are lovely, seem too good to wear for riding, I would hate to damage them. But they are lovely" she repeated. "May I try them on?" Tiny looked very pleased at her description, and nodded pulling back a curtain. "Through here Doll..." There was a woman standing in front of the mirror in the changing rooms dressed in a leather bikini, enhanced with chains. She was posing very provocatively, and trailing a whip onto the floor. Joy drew back a little, then told herself to stop being a wuss. "Excuse me, could I just get into there?" she said to the woman, pointing into the changing room. The woman looked her up and down and smiled lazily. "Sure thing, sweetie," she said. "I'll just...change back into my regular clothes." She shook out the items in preparation -- a silky halter top, a black leather micro mini skirt, and a pair of thigh-high black leather boots. She took off the bikini and proceeded to put on her clothes very, very slowly, watching Joy's reactions the entire time. Apparently she really needed the bikini, since she didn't seem to have worn any underwear when she came in. Joy swallowed, and bit her lip, feeling incredibly uncomfortable. She wasn't sure what the woman was trying to achieve by this. Was she expecting her to be aroused in some way, or just to perform a function as an audience. She glanced across at Terry who didn't seem to be phased in the same way. She tried very hard not to look, but not to make it seem that she was making an effort not to, the adrenaline spiking through her making her palms sweaty, and she folded her arms hiding them, trying to appear nonchalant, and tapped her foot on the floor, looking at the ceiling, the floor, and across at Terry. Terry shrugged. There were lots of lesbians and bis who came to Tiny's for their leather, and all you could do was grin and bear it. The bikini lady, for her part, seemed disappointed in Joy's reaction to her show. Then she looked at Terry. "Oh, I get it. You two must be a couple. Oh, well." She picked up the bikini and the whip, then left the dressing room. She stopped at Joy and ran the butt of the whip slowly along her jawline. "If you ever decide you want a real woman, honey, look me up. Tiny has the number." She left the pair, swinging her hips ever so slightly. Terry just shook her head. "Just when I thought I'd seen everything...you ok, Joy?" "Terry, please don't be offended but I don't really think this place is me. I'm just happy to get my leathers and not be here. All these people. I guess I'm just not very laid back about sex and stuff." Joy felt embarrased, and stupid, and intimidated, and very unsettled. She realised she needed to decide what, if anything, she was going to tell Terry about her past. "That's ok," Terry said. "To tell you the truth, Tiny's the only reason I come here. He knows about the Guardians, and he helps in whatever way he can. He's a good friend to have, Joy. The others...well, just ignore them. They're strange, but they won't bother you if they can tell you aren't interested. They're just bluff, mostly." The dark-haired girl could tell there was something else behind Joy's discomfort, but that was her story to tell whenever she chose to tell it. Joy tried on the pants, and decided to buy both of them and the chaps. To be truthful she calculated that making a decision would take longer than just getting the hell out of there by buying them all. Once Joy was ready, the pair left the dressing room and took their purchases to the cash register. A thin, delicate blond rang up their purchases. Terry had picked up a couple of pairs of leather pants, a miniskirt, and one of the jackets Tiny had recommended. "It's been a long time since I've seen you working here, George," she said to the blond. "Well, I don't get out too much," he said in a voice that matched his appearance. "Have to stay home and take care of the beast." He flicked his eyes in Tiny's direction. "Joy, this is George, Tiny's partner," Terry introduced. "George, Joy, a good friend of mine." "Pleasure, Joy." George smiled faintly and extended a hand. She shook it, and was suprised by the firmness of the handshake. "It's good to meet you." She found she meant it, and smiled at him. "So, you ready to go back and prepare?" Terry whispered to Joy. "I know you're ready to leave here." "Terry, you will be my friend forever if you just get me out of here right now." Tiny was waiting at the door. "Bye, Ter," he said. "Don't be such a stranger. Joy, it was a pleasure." He bowed to her, an action that looked graceful in spite of his girth. He handed Joy a leather jacket to match Terry's. "A gift for a new friend, and an apology for the moonlight madness gauntlet you had to run. I put my card in the pocket, too. Please call me if you ever need me, no matter what the problem. I mean that." The look he gave her showed her he was sincere. "Next time you two need leathers, let me know, and I can let you shop before we open or after we close." "Thank you so much" Joy was touched and had to swallow a lump in her throat. Here was a another person to add onto the list of friends. She took his hand and shook it again, holding back an urge to hug him. Maybe it was just that he was gay, but he felt safe and unthreatening, and she wanted to get to know him more. Before they got in the cab, Tiny pulled Terry aside. "Take care of her. I don't know exactly what that poor girl's been through, but she's a survivor. Like me. You take care of yourself." He gave her a big bear hug, then waved as the girls drove away. He fiddled with the stove for a short while getting the fuel sorted out and the flame adjusted. Finally once it seemed to be behaving he sloshed some water into a camp kettle and set it on the stove to get a brew ready. He stood back, and looked out over the hills. The trees were just beginning to turn, autumn was fast approaching, and there was a riot of gold and orange in the skyline. He thought for the first time about Halloween and orange pumpkins, and then his brain turned to camp fires and bonfire toffee. He would be missing Bonfire Night by staying, but maybe they could let off some fireworks on November 5th out on the roof. He must check what the local ordinance laws about fireworks in the city were, and indeed whether you could buy fireworks in New York. He looked across at Meg, and smiled at her. "Shall we get this tent up then? Michael you wanna give me a hand?" "Yeah. You boys take care of the tent, I'll go get some water. No sense in starting a fire at this point. That can wait until morning." Meg grabbed three bottles and headed to the stream. Michael put down the last load from the Hummer and looked at Callum. "Er, yeah, OK, what do I need to do?" Callum started pulling the poles out of the tent bag. "You could lay the canvas out, whilst I get the poles assembled." Michael shook the canvas out of the bag on to the floor and kind of pulled at the edges to try and make it flat. Once the poles came together into a reasonable shape, and something very like the Geodesic dome he wanted, then Callum positioned them over the flattened canvas, and started hooking the loops of the inner tent to the frame. "Can you try and get some of those metal spikes in through each of the loops at the base, where the ground sheet meets the canvas, and into the ground to keep it in place. There are straps there to adjust it so it's tight, so you don't have to be too precious about it. Once we've got it stretched out then we can get the fly sheet over the top and it'll be all snug." Meg made it to the small stream she'd seen and filled three thermos-type metal cylindrical cannisters with water. There was a filtration and decontamination device in the top of each bottle, so the water would be safe to drink when they needed it. She sniffed the air. She smelled plenty of small game, rabbits, raccoons, things like that. She could even smell some deer, but it would probably be better not to take one down. There was something else, too, though. Something that shouldn't be there. When she got back to camp, she said, "Hey, guys, take a sniff. I'm not sure, but I'm thinking maybe Stephanie was wrong about this area not being claimed." Michael sniffed, hesistantly at the air, looking across at the other two, aware that he didn't really know what he was meant to be doing. There were all sorts of scents, they had hit him from the moment they had got in to the woods, but none of them really meant anything to him. He looked expectantly at Callum. Callum drew in a deep breath. The scent of the deer on the wind made him start to salivate. He remembered Bambi and going to see it at the cinema with Rognvald, and tried hard to shake the image of a little fawn and Thumper gambolling through the forest, since the beast inside him wanted nothing more than to chase and bring down such a fawn and then bury his teeth into its flesh... He could smell something faint, an old taint of wolf. "You think there are some local wolves? Should we move do you think,it's a pain to move the tent now, Michael's done a ferlie job on that." Meg sniffed again. "Nah. Probably my imagination anyway. Besides, I don't think there's time." She shivered, feeling the pull of the beast inside. The sun was already beginning to set. "We'll have to worry about it in the morning. Should we move away from the camp before we change? I don't want to wreck this setup here." Her voice was already taking on a low growl. Callum looked across at the sound of her voice, "I guess so Hen." he felt a little reticent to have them her strip off with the young lad there, but on the other hand he really didn't want to leave Michael alone, and if they were going to move then they would end up all naked together. He started to pull off his shoes, and then gestured to Michael. "We should go over there and get undressed. Meg I know you'll be okay here for a moment, so we'll go over here." Meg nodded. Michael looked across at where Callum was starting to take his shoes off and felt the hot rush of a blush rising up his face, "Er, yeah, over there. Right." He looked back across the camp seeing Meg and his embarrassment was complete. Lifting a leg he reached down and pulled off one sneaker, balancing until he'd got the sock off too. Repeating with the other he threw both at the tent awning and shuffled self conciously towards the trees. Meg slipped off her shoes, then as soon as the guys were away, she began to pull off the sweats she'd worn. She hadn't bothered with a bra, but she did take off the underwear and socks. After she was done, she folded the clothes and took the whole pile over to the tent. Hoping he was out of Meg's earshot he whispered to Callum, "look, we got to, like, get naked and everything. I dunno, out in the woods and everything, that's too weird, what if someone's watching?" "Calm down Laddie," he made calming gestures with his hands. "There's no-one within miles round here. The last people we saw were back at the entrance." Callum was pulling his sweater over his head now. He put his own embarassment to one side, seeing the blushes on Michael's face, which helped rather. "You don't wanna destroy every stitch you have on, do you now? And you'll be in wolf form in a few minutes. No-one is going to see anything. You play football or something at school right? It'll be just like the changing rooms for PE." "Yeah," Michael agreed reluctantly removing his Hoodie and trying hard not to look at Callum or back towards the camp, "but they're changing rooms, not," he gestured around, "outdoors, y'know?" Talking to him he'd made the mistake of looking for eye contact and seen Callum was starting on his trousers. Rapidly he turned away, almost falling over his own sweatpants until he was stood in just a pair of boxers. "I didn't expect it to be like some bad skin flick," he complained, shivering slightly. Callum opened his mouth, about to take issue with the boy for talking that way. How could something involving Meg be in poor taste. However his throat formed a short but distinct howl, and he hurried to shed his remaining clothes, throwing them into a small pile. His muscles knotted with pain, and he sank onto his knees, hearing Meg howl as well. He tried to look towards Michael to see if he was okay, but he was forced double by a tearing moulding pressure in his limbs. Meg had no sooner finished folding her clothes and started walking away from the tent when a spasm rippled through her body. She gasped and doubled over. Her cry of pain turned into a mournful howl. The transformation had begun. Michael felt his body spasm and jerk, this had all come so fast he hadn't had time to consider what changing would actually feel like. His cry of pain came out as a howl of anger as his throat swelled and thickened, the sinews ripping and healing over and over as they moved to their new form. He fell to the ground, doubled over in the dirt and leaf mould, fighting to stretch out as his back curved and his arms became legs, his knees locking and inverting as he rolled and howled. Opening his eyes the world was painted hues of grey, the pain coursing through his body was rapidly becoming an old memory. He could smell the other wolves, the male, the female. Callum, Meg, he forced names to them in his brain. He could smell the world around him, he was a single spot within a completely new olfactory landscape. Shakily, uncertain, he lifted himself up on to all fours, it worked providing he didn't think about what he was doing, his body knew how to operate all he had to do was forget about trying to think about and force every little move. There was still something wrong, he turned, folded around himself and looked at his hind quarters, like a tattered cheerleaders skirt the remains of his boxer shorts hung around his waist held resolutely by the elasticated band that refused to succumb to the change. Meg, too, sniffed the air. She caught the scent of the new wolf and walked ovoer to examine him more closely. ~Michael,~ she thought, filing that smell away for future reference. She saw the boxers and assisted by grabbing the elastic in her teeth. A few pulls finished the job, although the shorts would never be usable for anything other than rags again. ~Michael? Can you hear me?~ she thought. ~Cal?~ Her nose sought out the scent of her mate. Michael turned his snout to Meg, he could tell she was saying 'hello' showing interest in him that, his wolf side decided with some disappointment, wasn't to do with his male-ness. He nuzzled across at her, moving over some of his own scent while inhaling hers. The smell of Callum was strong on the air as well. Michael raised his nose to the sky and howled, the feeling of vitality coursing through his body was almost too much to handle, he knew once Callum had 'checked in' the three of them would need to run and swished his tail, indicating the same to Meg. Michael didn't seem to be able to understand her thoughts, but that was all right. They'd get by. Meg sniffed him, getting more of his scent into her nostrils. He was a male, that was for certain. Where was Callum? The beast needed to hunt, to feed. ~Cal...must hunt. Hurry!~ It was getting difficult for her to think like a human. Michael wasn't the only one who was new to this. The smells of the forest were overwhelming. ~Meg!~ Callum bounded over to her, from where he had been distracted by the scent of deer on the wind, and greeted her, nuzzling her neck and breathing in her scent. He yipped at her, and bounced in front of her, paws dancing on the ground, ~Aye hunting, let's just sort the lad out and then we can get on with it.~ Then he jumped to Michael wagging his tail, his ears erect. He growled gently testing out the younger wolf's reaction. ~So understand who's in charge then do you boy?~ Michael tensed as Callum landed in front of him, somewhere deep in the wolf side of his brain the older males movements and sounds were translated. Fighting back the temptation to challenge the statement of authority Michael made the smallest geneflection [the first morsel is yours. For now.] acknowledging the elder wolves position. Looking beyond Callum and out to the wilderness he flicked his tail and yipped a challenge [can you catch me?] before launching off in to the trees. Callum woofed in reply, and glancing towards Meg who was runing with him now. ~Come on then Hen, can you smell the deer? I'm starving! Meg had watched the exchange but had not interfered. She didn't want to push Michael too much right now, but he did need to know that she and Callum were on top of the food chain here. When Michael bolted, she chased after him without a thought. It was what the beast had been waiting for. She smelled a herd of deer nearby. The human part of her knew they should go for small game to avoid undue attention, but the wolf was having none of it. She caught up with Michael and nudged him...[this way] -- then led him to the herd. She felt Callum close, too. His meager question hadn't been answered and so he'd have to rely on his own judgement. *What this needs is something to protect the innocents around here*. State closed his eyes, and his eyelids flickered a couple of times before his body drew itself up and placed it's hands firmly on her hips. Mind looked out and tutted at the chaos that was unfolding. "People these days are so concerned with their own egos.", she half-chanted as she sat down in the Lotus position,"what we need to do in this situation is remain calm and relaxxxx.". She closed her eyes and concentrated and thought calming thoughts. People's minds are hard things to crack, she thought, there is far too much going on that's purely due to negative karma or chi; what you have to do is show them how even the most violent thoughts are like feathers when untangled. If they survived this night, she'd have to tell Morgan that "fetch" is NOT the sort of thing you say to a wolf if you expect any sort of response. But, he was pretty messed up, so she supposed she'd let it slide...this time. She had seen the woman fall. Carefully, as to avoid the brunt of the water stream, she made her way to the bundle. April 3rd, 1967 The van coming down the road completely failed to catch any attention. After all, who even noticed a Volkswagen van with a floral paint job anymore ? They were everywhere. The windows were tinted with curtains, but that too was nothing strange considdering what these vans were famous for (and generally purchased in the hopes of attaining). If anybody had looked inside though, they would have seen something unexpeted. The two men inside hardly looked like hippies. One was wearing a crisp suit that looked expensive, the other was dressed all in white, a strange plaid fabric that even looked incredibly tough. One apparently who had chosen extreme durability over fashionability yet still chose white, as if laundry was a common trait in his life. The van was just a disguise, it was as unnoticable as a mottled grey horse a hundred years ago, it got them in anywhere without being noticed, and as a bonus, provided shelter from the sun when needed. The desert night occasionally sent up a reminder that it only looked dead, sometimes you could hear a coyote howl, or an owl, but most sounds were swallowed by the engin and the high speed at which they were going. Jethro kept his eyes carefully on the road while he spoke. "Well that wraps up the Vegas visit, I have a feeling we'll have to come back again sometime, there will be other battles there." Gabe nodded. In front of them, Jethro noticed lights some way of the road, brightly colored lights moving in odd patterns. Eerie music was drifting into the van. "Looks like a Carnival, sounds like a Carnival... what kind of a Carnival is open at 3am though ? Think we should check it out ? If it's really just open late, at least we can get some cotton candy." Gabe nodded, "we are making good time, might just as well stop and check it out," he smiled, "it is ages since I have had cotton candy." Jethro grinned and turned onto a small dirt road toward the lights, it took about ten minutes as he had to slow down a lot on the rough road here, before he pulled into a parking lot outside a fairground, it had all the signs of a busy carnival going on, except for lots of people. In fact the parking lot was empty, with the exception of about two dosen heavy road bikes parked near one end in a semi-orderly clump. "Biker gang" Jethro muttered under his breath. "Probably found an empty fairground and felt up for some fun. That kind of thing would be exactly their style. Take something cute and vandalize it when everybody else is asleep, then probably call it a statement... not our area though." He was about to start up the van again, when a scream came tearing across the fairground. Jethro squinted trying to let his vampire eyes focus past the brightly colored lights. The first thing he saw looked like a patch of small pyramids, before he realized what it must be... tents. "Tents, a campground maybe ? Either way, I think we'd better check it out, that was NOT a scream of delight." Gabe was already opening the passenger door, his hand reaching down for his rapier tucked safely behind the seat. Short enough to conceal the antique blade had been his favourite for decades. "You go down the middle, I will take your flank." "Works for me" Sullivan said. He himself reached between the seats, flipped up the carpeting behind them and lifted out his Katana, then he headed down the center. At the far wall of the fairground, a group of people stood huddle together, their clothing made them easy to identify as the hippies who lived in the tents next to it. They were unarmed, and adorned with peace symbols. From their right front was approaching the owners of the Harley's, swining chains and knifes, one or two carried sawn off double barrel shot guns. Out in the field Franks' men huddled down behind their cover and started to think how much nicer it would be to be back at base. They had lost a lot of good people tonight, should they really be risking more. But they were soldiers for the Lord, they wouldn't desert their posts, refuse their orders. There orders were what, to funnel these people out towards the bar. They could hold here a little longer, no need to shoot just yet. Up on top of the semi Franks and Olsen lay flat, Olsen had the heavy calibre sniper rifle set up and was slowly scanning the area around the telephone box. No need to kill anyone, that wasn't the order. He panned left, away from the bar and found a parked car, still pretty much intact. Opening the breech he cycled a red tipped HEAP round in to the mechanism and centred the cross hairs on the fuel tank. The rifle bucked slightly on its biped as the round took flight. Off to the right of the telephone box, not too close, but close enough, a Subaru erupted in a ball of flame. [tag] __________________________________ Do you Yahoo!? Yahoo! Reaching across the vast distance, she tapped the pleasure centre of his brain with a tiny prod, and happiness flooded into his brain as if he'd won the lottery. Standing up and then to attention, she smiled wistfully and said "I'd better let you guys have him back now, you'll be needing him to deal with the others."; and with that, State blinked and his gait took on the normal 'robotic' look. "Right, everyone is ready and expecting it, we need you to throw something explosive down at the targets in front of you." the commanders voice came. "the bigger the bang the better. And then it kept flowing... and > flowing... and flowing. A grin formed slowly on Olsens face, first it felt like he was just pleased with the shot, but it doubled and trebled and washed through him. He cuddled down in to the butt of the rifle, and closed his eyes as he cradled his head down on to the breech. Franks looked across at Olsen, the soldier seemed to have slumped in to his weapon, a look joy on his face. "Problem Olsen?" He asked, but got no reply. Carefully he extracted the mans hand from the rifles grip, moving it clear from the trigger. Olsen gave no resistance as he rolled clear from the weapon and curled up in to a ball on the roof of the semi trailer. Franks pushed at Olsens shoulder, "front and centre soldier, ten shun!" Still Olsen just lay there, breathing calmly, oblivious to the outside world. Franks called Morrell. "Sir, we have a situation here, the group at the phonebox are under surveillance but haven't done anything. Something has happened to Olsen, I can't get response from him." Morrell called up Olsens biofeedback, "Franks, his meds are showing clear, adreneline's bottomed out though." Everything was starting to go wrong. Morrell has lost so many men, he should pull them back, get them out of there. He had considered returning them to base once already, now he knew it was what he had to do. Back to the stable, don't risk the Posse any further, they'd had some victories tonight, don't push it. "Franks, get your people out of there we've done enough tonight, we're going home." That felt right. Franks clicked his comms to squad level, "Atkins, Marques, Jones, Harrison, by the numbers, converge on the Semi, I need help evacing Olsen, watch your backs people." With an eye to the group at the phone box Atkins and Jones took first covering position, overlapping Marques and Harrison as they pulled back, ready to fire if the need arose but holding back, not wanting to draw unnessecary attention to themselves. ___________________________________________________________ ALL-NEW Yahoo! Somewhere in the back of her mind, the human part remembered what had happened to Gabe when he'd walked into the bar. She sniffed at the bundle cautiously, ready to bolt if she smelled anything other than baby smells. What was in the bundle was a year old, baby, screaming in the uncomfortable heat. Morganis reached top of his upward arc, and then began to come down, he had no strength to try and fly with, he'd already had his head smacked open and taken a liquid battering ram to the chest, what's a bit of tarmac then ? As he began falling he remembered the figure 9.8 m/s squared acceleration, and anything that goes up, hits the ground at the same speed it was traveling at when it left it, give or take a bit of wind resistance... oh well. Morganis closed his eyes, shifted himself in mid air so he wouldn't fall on his head, and let science have it's way for once. A long moment later, he heard the sickening crack as his ankles lost an argument with the tarmac just a short distance from where he had taken off, he was hardly aware of the pain anymore however, and just went down - without a leg to stand on. tag --- "Cogito ergo sum" - Cicero "Coito ergo sum" - Me A.J. He had tasted the whisky, as it burnt a trail of warmth down his throat, and smelt the peat burning in the hearth. Outside the window bunnies were playing in the heather, and it whipped backwards and forwards. The clouds raced by the window, blown by a fresh scottish wind. Bagpipes could be faintly heard in the background. He was wearing a kilt. There was something not quite right here. He hadn't worn a kilt for years. He'd sat down on the pavement, just imagining how it would be right now. Suddenly with Meg's voice in his head he shook back into the present, and, yipped back to her. ~Meg~ The shooting seemed a little less frenetic, the fire in the bar less fierce. He tried to communicate with Jay, even though it seemed pretty hopeless by barking at him, then took off towards the bar, frantically trying to help his mate. OOC - I'm sure there was some mention about paramedics coming - but I have completely failed to find where, despite looking through the posts, any thoughts anyone?
