Numbers of US towns have names not pronounced the way the original is 
pronounced.   A couple from Indiana that stuck in my mind:  PEE-roo (Peru), 
and MY-lan (Milan).  And I can still remember the conductor on the Monon RR 
calling out the next station:  "LAY-fee-et" (Lafayette).
