Because there are very few women who want to buy s*x, it's a
major step forward for TV and movies not aimed at gay people to
admit that gay men exist, and a male s*x worker will be read as
gay. Most people who hire prostitutes for themselves, regardless
of gender, are male; women sometimes hire them for men, but if
men hire them for women they usually expect to participate.

Seriously, how many women do *you* know who are interested in
hiring a male s*x worker? A few, maybe, but a high enough
proportion to make hetero male prostitution a viable business?

If you have male s*x workers in a movie the people who are
homophobic will shout and scream. And so will a number of gay
lobbies who will not consider it a positive portrayal.
