Yes, I too found the dinner party scene and the Great Butter Bug Battle
absolutely hilarious. However, the torture scene in WA is one of the
reasons I have never re-read it. I seem to see it in my head, so I guess I
am a visualizer like Mary and the other List member who said she "saw" it
take place in her mind's eye. That scene pops up in my head every so often
and gives me the cauld grue.
Speaking of "Black Powder War" I remembered my Napoleanic War history (and
they say you can't learn anything from reading Regency Romance novels, feh!)
well enough to not be surprised by the outcome. What has left me most
apprehensive was the small part of the upcoming book that was appended to
the end of Black Powder. However, I am very greatful to those on the List
who mentioned Novik's books. I raced through them this weekend and have
even got my mom reading them.
I also have a question for those List Minds who are familiar with the work
of Eric Flint. I also read the books set on Harmony and Reason (Rats, Bats
and Vats, and The Rats, The Bats and The Ugly) this weekend. I found them
extremely enjoyable and amusing. I had a lovely time Googling the names of
the Rats and the Bats to remember who everyone was. Out of curiosity is
Flint a Trotskeyite? I wondered because of Bronstein's name. However, the
main question is who is the Georgette Heyer fan, he or Freer or someone
else? I just about snorted my iced tea when I was reading Virginia's
introductory bits. "Vernon had been on the bring of declaring himself to
Frederica". Plus I swear I remember later reading when she compared someone
to Lord Bromford. Flint is another author I first hear about on this
list, so I owe you all for that one as well.
